Your Nest thermostat gets used to the temperature and level of activity in one spot, so if you move it to a new spot or to another room it may not work as you expect. Moving your thermostat closer to the edge of a table is fine, but moving the stand across the room or to another room can confuse your thermostat. If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat with a single transformer system, switch the power wire between the Rh and Rc terminals. The 3rd genNest Learning Thermostat’s stainless steel ring can also be in different colors. If you have a thermostat ring that looks likeone of these, you have a 3rd gen Nest LearningThermostat. WARNING:Any attempt to connect low- and high-voltage Nest parts may damage them as well as your system. Do not mix and match these bases and displays, even if the thermostats are the same model and generation. As long as the thermostat base is from the same model, generation, and country/region as the thermostat display, you can swap bases and displays.

The thermostat’s built-in delay is saving you energy by not immediately responding to a minor temperature change. Since the C-wire is the preferred power source for Nest, a loose C-wire can cause the charging process to fail. If you tightened the C-wire during the above steps, give the system some time to charge before proceeding with your troubleshooting. Your Nest should recharge itself from your HVAC system wiring. If your system has a common wire (C-wire), then there shouldn’t be any problem. The Failed to connect message or error codes M21 and M22 all mean that your Nest can’t connect to your Wi-Fi network. The problem could be with your thermostat or with your Wi-Fi network, so we’ll try a few fixes for each. But you may need to move your thermostat if you’ve rearranged your furniture, if it has trouble communicating with the Heat Link, or has problems connecting to your home Wi-Fi network.

Because of different hardware designs, the displays and bases of various Nest thermostat models are not interchangeable even though they may look similar. The display connector and system wire connectors vary from model to model. Please see the first two sections in this article for more details.
