The family is trying to save as much as possible but they have to have a family adventure together. So off they go to a road adventure borrowing Uncle Gary's camper van. Damn, I just couldn't bear the second hand embarrassment the family had to face following the trip 🤦😂

I found the main characters of this book a little boring, if im honest. Although Jules had some depth, the main arc of her storyline didn't really make too much sense to me. Amber was a little annoying at first, but did grow on me a little near the end. Cons: Isaac, 15-years-old is missing and his parents are constantly fighting. Why are they not organizing search parties, putting up missing posters, or searching for their son? Is there a reason why the police didn't take his computer? Hard drive history can never be completely erased. Experts can retrieve the information. I also want to shout out a huge thanks to @GirlWithThePinkSkiMask for our unofficial buddy read! Such a pleasure to Exchange opinions and guess where this was going to. It definitely helped me to enjoy this book much more ❤️❤️❤️ This book could have been so good, so much better if the adults were easy to tolerate. Jules might have even been someone who I could have developed actual sympathy for, if not for her gross behavior. Not something I really wanted to read about. Maybe things like this does happen, after all the author is a psychologist. It just seemed, out of place. The cover drew me in before. It reminded me on something from out of space. Like watching the earth from out of space with the sun rising. Sleep deprived brain dies that to you… But when looking closer I realised it’s a car sinking in water. I do like the cover. Spot on.

But guess what, I am torn again… I am angry at myself for overanalysing everything. But I did not get the Lucinda-vibe I love. I did not hate this as much as I did with Under her Care. I also did not love it. It’s a solid 3,5 ⭐️ for me, I guess. Jules is driving her son Gabe and another boy named Isaac home after a game in the evening when a deer jumps out in front of the car. Jules loses control of the car and they end up sinking in an icy lake. Jules goes to grab her son but pulls out Isaac by mistake. Gabe doesn't make it and she blames herself. Jules has a break down and ends up in an institution. Isaac goes missing soon after and the investigators think its a serial killer who has been taking young boys. His mom, Amber thinks Jules has something to do with it since her and Isaac have formed a bond.

I pretty much love everything Lucinda has written so far, two exceptions only. I had huge trouble with Best of a Friends and Under Her Care. But yes, I am super duper excited that I did not have to wait until next year for this book! Yay! I try to keep an open mind. Ten months later Isaac disappears and Jules is at the heart of the investigation but did she have anything to do with his kidnapping? Jules has a secret but is adamant she is not the person they are looking for. Who has Isaac? And what dangerous secret is Jules hiding? Jules obsession with Isaac. He willingly gave her his sperm to have a freaking baby? And during this standoff she's saying " their love is real and who cares about age when they are cosmic lovers and blah blah and Isaac calls her a creepy old crazy women cause she's 41 and his 15This book gripped me right from the opening chapters. Former therapist turned stay-at-home mom Jules lives a nightmare when she swerves her car to avoid a deer and ends up in an icy lake. Confused and disoriented, she latches on to a hand and rises to the surface. She realizes with her horror that she's saved the wrong boy. Her son is still submerged, while her neighbor's son is safe. The co-author goes on to claim that Granda's "youthful indiscretion" (a misnomer, like others in the book) "may also have played a not insignificant role in making a person like Trump president." The story is told from alternating POV’s of Amber Greer (Isaac’s mum) and Jules (Gabe’s mum). This style is great love it… not this book. My good friend GirlWithThePinkSkiMask has pointed out (and I agree) that these are the WRONG POVs for this novel - we should have at least heard from Isaac I mean at least once. Amber is a annoying and childish and boring - whining about Jules how she did this and she did that. 😤
