About this deal

With its minimal knurling, it can be difficult to manipulate with your fingers. Especially when setting the time, the small crown can make fine adjustments a chore since it can be hard to grip. It is recessed into the case side but Orient intelligently designed the case to curve away from the bottom half of the crown to allow your fingernail a place to grip under it. The unsigned crown is a basic design with a polished end that helps breakup the brushed case sides. A signed crown would have been a nice added detail but at this price point I can’t blame Orient for deciding to pass on that. I think they're really good watches for the price, designed for low maintenance and anyone who likes small dress watches should try one. They have their charm, but also they have their flaws. If you're used to higher WR rated watches maybe another automatic could be a better starter watch. If you're okay with the flaws the Orient 3 Star is a very unique and nice little watch. It is a good starter automatic watch if you were used to take off watches before shower and don't use them at pool, etc. As a secondary watch or if you already have a collection of watches they're always a nice addition. Unless what's stated on the dial is blatantly lying to me (which I doubt,) I do believe the automatic movement is truly Japanese. I don't know if this means the movement was made in Japan or designed in Japan and constructed elsewhere like Thailand or Indonesia. Not a clue. All I know is that the dial states it's a Japan movement. One change I’d like to see here is fully drilled lug holes to make strap changes a little easier. Although not too difficult as it is, drilled lugs would reduce the chances of scratching the lugs with the forked end of the spring bar tool.

The choice wasn’t between adopting quartz technology or dying as a business. The aim of the company was to retain its brand identity and its watchmaking knowledge.

Where can I buy Orient TriStar watches?

The Orient 3 Star is a great starter versatile dress automatic watch, it have charms, but is far from a perfect watch (to be expected at its price point). I think the best reason to buy an Orient Three Star is just for the fact it's a "workhorse automatic." It looks nice enough, it fairly light for what it is (mine after removing links to fit my wrist is just 81g,) it seems to be accurate from my experience with it thus far, and yeah, good watch. I'm happy to own it. I know the colors are a pretty divisive thing, so it’ll be up to you to decide whether it fits your style — you’ll definitely get comments on it if you choose to wear one, probably both good and bad!

The Three Star is a great introduction to a self-winding automatic. It's a simple watch that's easy to figure out. Definitely the easiest day-date analog I've ever used. For the price, you really can't do any better. First, the metal bracelet, while nice and light, feels a bit sharp around the edges. An oyster bracelet this is definitely not. The case of the Orient Tristar is made of stainless steel and has quite compact dimensions, measuring only 37 mm in diameter in most models, although there are also 40mm and even 43mm options. The Orient 3 Star collection began production in the 1970s, although the brand had already been using the three-star logo on other watches since the 1950s.
