It’s certainly better than nothing and better than just shoving the water bottle into the main compartment. But, just to reiterate: this bag is not the one to take up Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s for low adventure travel around town and between the airport, car and hotel. With the straps joined to make a single carry-strap, I found that the ends of the bag bow together. The extent of this depends on how much is in the bag, but it is definitely noticeable. When a duffel has the handles attached to the sides of the bag rather than the ends this isn’t a problem. But, when I thought about it, my other duffel does exactly the same thing if I use its shoulder-straps rather than the side straps. Maybe it is exaggerated by the thinner fabric, but it is a compromise you’ll soon learn to live with. Additional Storage I wouldn’t like to wear it on a day long hike. I’ve got specialised hiking bags for that, with a much better fit for prolonged active wear.

However, these straps double up as grab-and-go handles when you need them by simply joining them in the center with a solid Velcro patch, and this configuration also lets you carry the bag over one shoulder, neat huh? The long side compartment is large enough to usefully act as separate storage for wet or muddy items. For example, it easily accepts my size 10 approach shoes. I’ve also found that, because of the lightweight construction, it is easy to turn the bag inside out and sponge the inside clean. And now for the exciting bit… the plastic used for the construction of the Daylite Duffel is actually recycled PET – which means it comes from plastic bottles originally! Osprey has essentially found a way to convert plastic waste into high-quality plastic fibers that can be used again to make ultra-durable products – how cool is that? Finally, Osprey’s All Mighty guarantee covers any defects in manufacture over the reasonable lifetime of the product. For other repairs Osprey pledge to charge a reasonable amount for any out-of-warranty service. In use This is the most exciting part of the Osprey Daylite Duffel to me. It’s made from 100% recycled fabric and yet it still looks brand new, tough and gorgeous.

By far the most impressive feature of the Daylite Duffel range though has to be the weight. The bag tested offers 60 litres of storage space in a flexible, practicaland durable manner, and all for less than the weight of a loaf of bread. The 60 litre bag weighs 700 grams and the 45 and 30 litre versions weigh 600 grams. For these reasons, we think the Osprey Daylite Duffel offers fantastic value for money compared to other models on the market. Rating It also dropped a few points for its internal organization (what internal organization) but, overall, we were very impressed with this duffel. Verdict

Despite their light weight however, these bags are no lightweight performers. The fabrics feel light yet strong and top and bottom padding protects the contents from bangs and scrapes. The fabric used is not waterproof, but I’ve certainly found it can keep showers at bay. Osprey’s Almighty Guarantee So, all things considered, what do we think of the Osprey Daylite Duffel? As far as duffels go, you can’t get much better. Like any good duffel bag, the Osprey Daylite Duffle has a really strong shoulder strap with a padded handle you can velcro into place. Most of us need to carry around a diverse range of kit. Maybe it’s your work gear during the day and then kit for that evening gym visit to the gym. At the end of the week it’s hauling your weekend kit. You could have a bag for every situation but maybe a one bag fits all makes more sense. Osprey have designed their Daylite Duffel range to offer a one bag fits all solution. Features The interior stitching and seams are sewn to Osprey’s usual high standards and the main seams are reinforced. It is also lined to further increase durability. You will get many adventures out of the Daylite.Having said that, one of the things I really love about all Osprey products – and I’ve tested loads of them by now – is the quality. And again, I love the attention to detail. The key clip is bright red so it’s easy to spot when you’re flustered or in the dark. The downside, however, is that you do have to be careful about what you put in it. If you’re going to put something like laptops or cameras in, you’ll need to provide your own padding for them. The Osprey Daylite Duffel has tonnes of features that set it apart from your average high-street duffel. Available in a range of capacities, and with three different carrying options, this bag is incredibly versatile and suited to a range of activities. With an overall rating of 90/100, the Daylite Duffel has performed well against our ranking system. It scored full marks for carrying comfort and value for money and just missed out on full marks for materials and durability (because we can’t give a 10/10 for a bag that isn’t fully waterproof).

Okay, so let’s start with the basics – what is the Daylite Duffel actually made of, and will it stand up to the test of time? Materials

sizing

Now, the bag itself is pretty lightweight. It has some padding on the top and at both ends but the sides are pretty thin and flexible.

The Velcro handle that joins the grab-and-go handles is surprisingly comfortable, protecting your hands or your shoulder (depending on how you wear it) and it won’t slip out of place on you either.

It’s also constructed from super durable, ethical, eco-friendly materials, which we all know often comes with a high price tag.
