About this deal

The devastation, guilt, unhappiness and soul searching that followed the excitement, thrill and sex with a new person changed/altered the couple involved, their wronged spouses, their children and their friendship group, could they recover from this? Move on? Learn? The grass isn’t always greener on the other side!

The book starts with a lot of characters. They are all couples who met through their children attending the same school and they and their children have become friends. I initially found this off putting knowing that I struggle with names in real life let alone in a book! I found the large cast of characters difficult to grasp and I don’t think I ever got to know any of them truly, especially the men and even less the children. This prevented me on the whole from empathising with them or caring whether their relationships failed or succeeded. I would have preferred a shorter book, fewer characters and more interrogation of the relationships, particularly those not at the centre of the affair. I also could have done without the Mia/Will story line which is randomly introduced half way through. Other People’s Husbands by Elizabeth Noble was published on July 21st with Penguin Michael Joseph and is described as a ‘beautifully written and sensitively wrought drama.’

A frank and believable account of friendship and a marriage under stress. I was moved' ADELE PARKS, SUN

I became so invested in the lives of the characters in this book. It was also interesting to read a book from the perspective of slightly older parents (whose children were young adults.) There were some really sad parts as well as some amazing uplifting bits. I did initially think it was quite a lot of characters, although many of them are just minor so it didn't cause any confusion. The compelling new novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Love, Iris and The Family Holiday The story took me a little while to become involved which was mainly because it was about 6 couples (and their children) so there were a lot of names to get used to but once I did I was captivated! Rich and riveting . . . A perfect observation of the complexities and pitfalls of long-lasting friendships and their impact on family life * HEIDI SWAIN *Elizabeth Noble's unerring eye depicts family life in all its forms, good and bad, in a way we will all recognise' KATIE FFORDE Beautifully insightful on long term relationships and friendships and the fractures a betrayal can cause. A gorgeous read * JANE FALLON * A frank and believable account of friendship and a marriage under stress. I was moved -- ADELE PARKS * SUN * Rich and riveting . . . The narrator changes across the chapters from one character to the next, giving you insight into key scenes, from different perspectives. Other People’s Husbands is a story of friendship and love, crossing boundaries and breaking vows, of trying to fix what you believed could never be broken. The fallout is heart breaking, not only for the spouses that have been cheated on, but the children, general friendships, female friendships and if the group can ever be the same again. The story flows well, highlighting the close friendships which have developed over time and the minutiae of life as each of the six couples bring their own distinct personalities into the mix, closely observing all the actions and reactions, and the heightened emotion of anger, sadness, lust and mistrust.

Things I Want My Daughters to Know” is the fourth stand alone novel and was released in the year 2007. How would you say goodbye to those that you love the most in the world? It was an easy read that didn’t push any boundaries or require much of the reader. This much I had anticipated. What was surprising was how frequently I found myself welling up. The discussion around female friendships and particularly mother-daughter relationships were relatable, honest and added depth to characters which were otherwise quite surface level. The compelling and gripping new novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Love, Iris and The Family Holiday Since Daphne passed, Charlie cannot help but think about happier times for every member of the Chamberlain family, before the kids drifted apart. His wife was the truth north of the family, and without her guidance, Charlie fears that his kids have lost all direction. The children no longer children but now grown up and their parents have now entered the next stage in life and a time when things change. The latest holiday was the start of the change when the now mature Natalie wears a red bikini instead of a sedate one piece, she has the figure for it but everyone has noticed.
