High-end gaming monitors may offer support for Nvidia's G-Sync or AMD's FreeSync and FreeSync 2 technologies that synchronize your monitor and graphics card to reduce screen-tearing artifacts and provide an ultra-smooth gaming experience, but your computer will need a compatible dedicated GPU to take advantage of that functionality. And, to make it an even better proposition, it’s got some great features as well – namely, decent-sounding speakers and an interesting picture-in-picture functionality that will let you display two different computers in the same display. That’s pretty nifty and a great way to make up for the fact that there’s no USB-C connectivity. This model is a couple of years old at this point, but the past couple of years have been fairly slow for monitor developments, especially on the more mainstream and business-user side of things, so it can hold its own against the best business monitors out there. Some newer monitors have DisplayPort 2.0 ports, which support 8K resolution at a staggering 240Hz,16K with HDR at 60Hz, and 10K without HDR at 80Hz. But while 5K and 8K monitors have better image quality they are also significantly more expensive in most cases, and with less support for higher resolutions, they're not always necessary for most everyday monitor needs. It can also take longer to stream files at the higher 5K and 8K resolutions. What are the benefits of a 5K or 8K display? The U2723QE sells at a high enough price that you’re not likely to outfit a whole office with them. It would be a good choice for meeting-heavy managers (or other critical workers), especially ones involved in dealing with creative content as one aspect of their job. What Are Pixels? Consider a curved monitor.Curved monitors are supposed to make your experience more immersive with a large field of view and are said to be less eye-straining. However, they can be prone to glare when viewing from certain angles (light sources are coming from various angles instead of one). The Dell 24 Touch P2424HT is an affordable touch-screen desktop monitor for general-purpose business or personal use. It has a bright IPS screen with excellent contrast and full coverage of the sRGB color space, but its relatively low (FHD, aka 1080p) resolution limits its artistic use to casual photo or video editing, and if you want a stylus, you’ll have to supply your own. You typically can’t use motion blur reduction and G-Sync / FreeSync at the same time.(There are rare exceptions, like the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQ.) Gamers should opt for Adaptive-Sync every time. A fast graphics card running at 60 fps and higher with G-Sync or FreeSync will pretty much eliminate any need for motion blur reduction. The Dell UltraSharp UP3218K is aimed at professionals, obviously, so if that sounds like it’s made for you, it’s probably the best monitor you’ll ever find. This product is only available in the US and UK right now, and given that it's a couple of years old at this point, it's harder to find than most. The Philips Evnia 34M2C8600 is a top-notch ultrawide monitor that will delight gamers seeking a primo OLED display. It costs quite a bit, but it's money well spent—it beat out several similar 34-inch displays for our top recommendation in this category. The Evnia turned in dazzling test results, delivering excellent SDR and HDR image quality, with very accurate colors and wide color-gamut support. It has an appealing cabinet design, and its unique lighting system helps improve picture quality. Who It's For
About 8K Resolution: 8K resolution measures at 7680 x 4320 pixels and is currently the highest monitor resolution currently available. The technology is so new that commercially available 8K UHD televisions and broadcasts are just now becoming available. On the market, 8K is currently being integrated into TVs, computer monitors, and broadcast cameras. Monitor Resolutions Compared 720p vs. 1080p Many FreeSync monitors can run G-Sync. Nvidia has tested and certified some of these as G-Sync Compatible. Many non-certified monitors can also run G-Sync too, but performance is not guaranteed. Until then, if HDR matters to you, we recommend buying monitors only with an HDR 600 rating or above to give you an experience comparable to that of a modern HDR-rated TV. An HDR certification will always add to a monitor's MSRP, so unless you really want the feature and are ready to pay for a proper rating, that money could be better saved for upgrades to your PC or added features such as a higher refresh rate for a gaming display. Your choice of 8K monitors (7680 × 4320 pixels), is limited, as currently, there aren't many 'affordable' 8K screens beyond the Dell UltraSharp UP3218K. It's an excellent screen in its own right, but we'd like to start seeing this market in particular flourish. There is nothing quite as sharp as 8K. In our experience, the best 8K monitors are significantly more demanding; therefore, most devices cannot output, so it’s essential to ensure that your computer can push to 8K if you are interested. Because of this, 5K is supported by far more devices than 8K. If you're integrating higher resolution displays into your workflow, make sure the output is compatible. How we test the best 5K and 8K monitors The problem here is that the exact point where a higher PPI becomes undetectable is a matter of debate. Some say that the optimal pixel density is somewhere are around 400 ppi, while others say that the pixel density detectable by the eye is closer to 1000 ppi. Since this is a matter of personal preference, it’s always better to test a monitor out for yourself before deciding on which display to buy. What Are Some Common Monitor Resolutions?
