Sometime afterward, Optimus Prime was upgraded into a Powermaster. He then encountered a human boy named Tommy Kennedy who lived in Autobot City and the two became friends. Optimus would spend much of his time teaching the young boy about Transformer history and imparting a few life lessons along the way. In one of their earliest encounters, Tommy needed to know how the Transformers came to Earth for a "special project". Prime related the story and learned that the "special project" was a hand-sculpted bust, made by Tommy, to commemorate the Autobots' anniversary on Earth. Prime was touched. Season 5: More than Meets the Eye, Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 In an alternate universe where Kup managed to restrain Hot Rod, Optimus successfully defeated Megatron, dodging his blast and retaliating with a lethal shot. In the aftermath, Optimus – galvanized by the many casualties of the battle - announced to the survivors that they would return to Cybertron and end the war before the Decepticons could nominate a new leader. At some point, Optimus Prime had transformation cog modified to give him an experimental combiner mode, allowing him and four of his soldiers to form Optimus Maximus. Though the combination was unstable, they managed to employ it to defeat Slugslinger during the battle over the Transform Super Cog before an energy wave from Megatron split them apart. Optimus fought Megatron one on one until his nemesis was by chance suddenly powered up into a Transmetal body, after which he retreated to deal with Slugslinger. Slugslinger's Ambition In the Autobot roll call scene, when Jazz calls Prowl's name, Cliffjumper transforms as well. Ratchet is shown in vehicle mode, even though Jazz never called his name. Finally, near the end, Optimus Prime's headlights are red instead of white, but in the next scene this is corrected.

Optimus set off aboard a shuttle as Unicron began his final assault on Cybertron, but was intercepted by Megascream, who planned to steal the Matrix for himself. It looked like an even fight until Megascream revealed the extent of his upgrade: merging with several other Decepticons, he became a massive combiner, who squashed and wounded the Autobot leader. It looked like the end for Prime until Hot Rod – who had stowed away aboard the shuttle – intervened, teleporting Optimus to safety using a teleport disc. Hot Rod sacrificed himself by opening the Matrix, destroying himself, Megascream and Unicron.

As the above shot pans across the bridge to the right, we see Soundwave has teleported from one side of the bridge to the other, slumped against a console. Most of the Transformers known as "Powermasters" were the result of this initial bonding—the procedure is otherwise quite rare. Later episodes will go to some length to establish that Cybertron is outside of our galaxy. There's even some implication that it's not inside any galaxy, but that unlikely notion is put to the lie by the very first shots of this episode, which show its surface illuminated by an unseen sun, and the space around it filled with stars. Ginrai was a candidate in TakaraTomy's Masterpiece Fan's Choice poll, which asked fans to determine which Autobot/Maximal leader from the franchise's then-30 year history should receive a new toy in the prestigious Masterpiece line. Ginrai placed third, with 18.6% of the vote. Prime had little use for Marissa's other great skill—surfing—given his own experience in that area, Kiss Players #7 so instead, he found a better use for Marissa's surfboard by using his new powers to transform it into a knife so he could make use of the skills Marissa's fusion gave with him. Marissa was not very happy, Kiss Players #10 but took it in stride, and dubbed the new weapon the " Surfblade". In response, Prime named her shirt "The Three Skull Brothers", after the image on it. Hound pops out a little wrist radar dish that lets him hear what the Decepticons are saying from some distance away. The three parter was released on video in the United Kingdom in 1986 under the title "Arrival from Cybertron". The Ultimate Gift Set was exclusive to online retailers in the United States, but was available at general retail in Asia. Beginning with wave 3 figures, the pictograms on the tech-spec cards went through some minor cosmetic changes from the previous waves; the strength icon changed from a whole muscular torso to just a muscular arm, the 'motion blur' effect on the running humanoid figure which marks speed changed from triangles to striations, the intelligence icon switched from a human brain to a Cybertronian's head silhouette with gears inside, and lastly the firepower icon changed from just a bullet to a bullet followed by a blast effect.The shoulder cannons absolutely needed to be justified with an episode screencap… which actually shows an animation error. During Jazz's roll-call of the Autobots, he neglects to call out Cliffjumper's name. The little red guy transforms anyway.Battle Convoy and Megatron then agreed to a one-on-one duel following the " Law of Cybertron": total banishment to the defeated and his forces. After a lengthy and painful battle, Battle Convoy narrowly managed to best Megatron, forcing him and the Decepticons to retreat into deep space. Battle Convoy was last seen wounded, being aided off the battlefield by Volt and Electro. The Autobots Triumph in the Battle of Good Vs. Evil! The shoulder sections feature a single cone coming up, reminiscent of the two circles that came up from G1 Optimus Prime's shoulders. Quite a few generic robots are mixed in among the identifiable inert Transformers in the crashed ship, including Hauler and a yellow version of Jazz. Profile art depicted the Headmaster heads as larger "mecha" that the human partners pilot. More than Meets the Eye However, it's important to state that these episode lists represent only ideas for what would have been in the season. There is no guarantee that they would have all met with Hasbro approval, or that they wouldn't simply have been altered and redrafted by the creators themselves as time went on; even the full-length outlines Isenberg wrote for "Trial of Megatron" would have been subject to alteration during production. Thus, it must be understood that what you see in this article does not necessarily represent exactly what would have been seen on TV, even if the season had gone ahead; in particular, the Collectors' Club magazine article lists fifteen proposed episodes, and Animated seasons were only thirteen episodes in length, meaning two of them would almost certainly never have been made. Reworked from the earlier proposal for a Shattered Glass-themed episode, this take on the concept saw Bulkhead and Sari transported to the mirror universe when attempting to rejoin the other Autobots who had already returned to Earth.
