Description

For those of you who don’t know brother Lawrence was a chef in the 1600s and he lived in continual fellowship with God and because of this, he taught people what he learned.

Doing the latter rather than the former will only create a habit of frustration and it will hinder our fellowship with God, but if we correct our wandering mind by simply returning to prayer it’ll create a habit of delightful fellowship with the Father. Being hungry for His presence and desiring to be in the presence of the Lord on a daily basis should be our greatest priority… just to be with Him and seek His presence with all our hearts. We all live in His presence all the time, (“In Him we live and move and have our being” Acts 17:28) but not many people are aware of it. The big issues in my life. These often come into my mind, so I commit them to God, ask for his wisdom, and pray that he would work out his good purposes in my life.

Pursuing the Presence of God - Recommended Resources

So if God is always present with us, we should learn to simply walk in His presence. We can simply be aware that He is near, and that the light of His face is shining on us with love and grace, wherever we are and whatever we’re doing.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:6–8)

As we sometimes take other people for granted and fail to be fully aware of them, so we can take God for granted, and fail to be fully aware of him. Practising = making a habit of being aware of and responding to God’s presence: Some useful habits In Ephesians 5:18-20, Paul tells us to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and makingmelody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Fatherin the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus … and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith … (Heb 10:19-22) David was renewed by this liberating truth that God would guide and provide for him. Imagine also how Joshua must have felt as Moses informed him that Joshua would lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, not Moses who had freed them from their Egyptian bondage. Moses left large sandals to fill, but God’s empowering word enabled Joshua to step out in confidence with God: He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. (Is 40:26).

The book includes 15 short letters written by Brother Lawrence during the last ten years of his life to a variety of long time friends. They are the heart and soul of his ability to live in the constant presence of God. It is by being in the presence of God that you’re able to know who he is. You also get to see why he loves you so much and your identity in Christ. If you are feeling stagnant in your spiritual walk, spend time in God’s presence. His presence is powerful. It helps us to transform into the image of God and to grow spiritually. 3. Divine Rest So in summary, God is, yes, to be sure, omnipresent in some of his influences — like, his sustaining all things at all times, holding every electron and every sub-nuclear particle in its place. But he makes his influence more manifestly felt and experienced in particular ways and particular times. Do you see? As believers, we have direct access to God’s presence. We can speak with Him like speaking to a friend any time we want to, because He’s right there with us and in us.Spending time in His presence will open up your eyes to his unconditional love. And this will cause you to become confident. Not only is God present in our world, he also invites us into his presence through his Son and his gospel. In Genesis 3, God’s judgement is to send out, to drive out sinners from the place where he met with them every day (Gen 3:22-24, 9). When God scatters his people, he judges them (Deut 28:64-68). However, through Christ and through his sacrifice, we are summoned into God’s presence. God not only created all that is, he also sustains it, moment by moment. As we look at the sky, we see the stars God causes to shine. My friend, the Holy Spirit isn’t some wispy, mystical idea. He is God Himself, and He comes to live in us when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
