About this deal

Next Is the Barracuda revenge story. A very solid story that well could have been the "last Punisher storyline from Ennis". But no, he also had Valley Forge in him, a wonderful wrap up of an earlier story where Frank screwed some powerful military men over when he refused to hand over a girl he had rescued from Russia. The Punisher: The Complete Colllection Vol. 4 collects issues The Punisher 50-60, Barracuda Max 1-5, The Punisher: Tyger, The Punisher: The Cell, and The Punisher: The End written by Garth Ennis and art by Goran Parlov, Howard Chaykin, John Severin, Lewis LaRosa, and Richard Corben. The two one shot’s ‘The Tyger’ and ‘The Cell’ give us more insight into Frank’s philosophy by showing us a younger version of him. The former being particularly effective at that. Ennis' landmark work to date is the 66-issue epic Preacher, which he co-created with artist Steve Dillon. Running from 1995 to 2000, it was a tale of a preacher with supernatural powers, searching (literally) for God who has abandoned his creation.

Punisher: The Complete Collection Vol. 7 collects PunisherMAX issues 1-22 written by Jason Aaron with art by Steve Dillon. This is a great book. After writing this review, I’ve decided it deserves the 5 stars. It’s not fair to compare it to the first 4 volumes. They are four of the best comic book collections ever made. Even though this isn’t quite as good, it’s still worthy of the title. Collects The Punisher #26–34, Annual #3, Punisher Classic #1, Epic Graphic Novel: Return to Big Nothing, Marvel Graphic Novel No. 51 – The Punisher: Intruder, Marvel Graphic Novel No. 64 – The Punisher: Kingdom Gone Interesting ideas and premises with great potential mostly range in execution between basically competent and offensively bad. Garth admits that the punisher’s character is just one big catharsis, someone with the guts to do what the justice system can’t. You enjoy watching him murder child rapists and other felons, even if you know it’s not solving anything. A lot of the arcs in this, and the one before it, showcase that concept very well. Of course this series isn’t without it’s messages and character study, but at the end of the day it’s about a person we all wish really existed.

Punisher Reading Order

Punisher Max by Jason Aaron & Steve Dillon Omnibus (Hardcover)". Marvel Entertainment. 2014-06-04 . Retrieved 2021-05-19. The three titles concluded in the crossover story arc “Countdown”, which is not collected at this time. III. Punisher in the mid-90s Unlike the concurrently running Marvel Universe-proper series [4] featuring the Punisher, the MAX imprint allows the creators the freedom to write more realistic and hard-edged stories that cannot be seen in regular mainline Marvel Universe stories. [5] [6] Also unlike the previous MAX series, which focused mainly on Frank Castle/The Punisher's war against the mob, this series has him squaring off against MAX versions of popular Marvel super villains, such as Wilson Fisk/the Kingpin, Bullseye and Elektra. The series came to a conclusion with issue #22. [7] [8] So let me talk about a couple that didn't work for me. There's one of a writer, she's trying to create a story but pushing towards actual events and having people kill and murder. It's stupid with a dumb ending. There's also a couple stories that are standard bad guy being bad, robs and kills people, fakes he's a good guy, but Punisher knows all. Snooooooze. Been there. This continues Garth Ennis's famous run on The Punisher, and saying he stepped his game up in this one is an understatement. I enjoyed the three story arcs in the first collection but this volume seems like it could've even been written by a different person. Frank Castle's personality and character shine brighter darker, I felt much more connected to him, the action is even crazier, and all of the stories are even more compelling. While at times the first book and it's character's and events felt a little cheeky, especially with some of the supporting characters, everything here seems way more genuine and confident and didn't feel like it was playing for jokes.

This is where the miniseries Punisher War Zone from Garth Ennis takes place, collected in Marvel Knights Punisher by Garth Ennis: The Complete Collection Vol. 3 (see above) Now the last six issues in the collection "Kitchen Irish" drawn by Leanardo Fernandez is the wekest of the three stories here but still class A Punisher. Politically charged in a long-term dispute between the Irish and British, and Frank wants to Punish them all because they bombed a restaurant too soon and killed lots of people. Three factions, one Punisher. Plus an ally or two from his vietnam days. All the Punisher Max one-shots and the anthology series Untold Tales of Punisher MAX (published in reality after Aaron’s run) were all collected together. The ‘Barracuda’ miniseries that we open with is the funniest thing Garth has ever written, by far. While a little hard to feel invested with the complete absence of Frank, Ennis makes up for it with the arc right after. The only arc to make me shed a tear so far.PUNISHERMAX #4". Despite being lower profile than Preacher, Hitman ran for 60 issues (plus specials) from 1996 to 2001, veering wildly from violent action to humour to an examination of male friendship under fire. Punisher: Year One– This origin tale by Dan Abnett and Dale Eaglesham covers the days and weeks following the murder of his family. Garth Ennis' writing is beautiful (in a dark, gritty, and "in yer face" sort of way). I always thought there was something different about The Punisher. He's really not some spandex wearing superhero. He's more of a Death Wish meets Rambo type character. I once read somewhere that "...Wolverine and The Punisher are considered to be remnants of the Post-Vietnam War era.". And Garth Ennis said in the introduction that he saw that, "...born in the 1970's-that uncertain era when TV and movies reflected society's growing unease with itself." And He nailed it! Before starring in his own series, The Punisher makes several appearances, mostly in Spider-Man. Except for some minor appearances, you can find all of the early Frank Castle appearances collected below: Max'ing Out the Future: Axel Alonso Talks Marvel Max". Newsarama. Set an undisclosed amount of years after the Garth Ennis series, New York crime bosses are trying to come up with a plan to take out the Punisher. There has been rumors of a mythical Kingpin of Crime for years until Wilson Fisk comes up with a plan to create this Kingpin as a target for the Punisher. As the Punisher tries to take out the Kingpin, the crime bosses will be free to do their business. But Wilson Fisk has grander plans. As he begins to create the fictional Kingpin, he actually becomes the real Kingpin and uniting New York’s crime families. The second tale finds Castle a little older and a lot crustier, but he still gets sandbagged by his old friend Micro...
