The Pure Elan Connect+’s 2.4-inch display may be colour, but it isn’t a touchscreen. There’s no app, so it connects to your home’s Wi-Fi network via the WPS button on a Wi-Fi router. Easy if you know what you’re doing – and it worked fine in our test – but this isn’t ideal if you’re gifting this product to someone who may be less tech-savvy. Three dedicated preset buttons are next to the tuning control. The radio only has six presets with three for digital stations and three for FM. Saving and recalling presets is very easy. A practical button layout and large vibrant display makes operating Elan DAB+ a pleasurable experience. Browsing menus, selecting stations and adjusting settings is simple and intuitive. For around the home Internet radios are a type of radio that transmits radio signals via the internet instead of air, as is the case with FM and DAB+. This allows users to receive radio stations and programmes from all over the world via their computers, smartphones and internet-enabled radios. The Pure Elan Connect+ isn’t really designed for parties or even BBQs, although it does a reasonable job outdoors. However, even with basic stereo imaging from its two speakers, the 3W units don’t provide much power. Compared to FM (Frequency Modulation) radios, DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radios offer several advantages. DAB+ digital radios have been developed and launched in Europe from the late 1980s. They transmit radio signals digitally, resulting in better sound quality. In addition, DAB radios offer an extended choice of content, as more radio stations (radio programmes) can be transmitted on a single frequency. DAB radios are less prone to failure and come with less static noise than FM radios. At the same time they offer more options for interaction, as they can receive text, images or even videos in addition to sound. Stable reception: Bluetooth radios with DAB+ technology offer stable quality, even if reception is weak, while FM radios often come with static noise.Viewing angles are reasonably good which is helpful when glancing at the time and date in standby mode. With DAB selected as a source, we were able to tune in a plethora of digital radio stations in under a minute, each one with scrolling text and other station information nicely presented in a compact and colourful way. After connecting the radio to the mains or inserting the batteries a push of the knob will switch on the radio. The radio will scan for digital radio stations the first time that it’s turned on and subsequently return to the last listened to station.
