About this deal

Nf6 ?! – Marshall Defense (D06), named after Frank Marshall, who first devised the move, he briefly played it in the 1920s before abandoning it.

Do you wonder what it would be like to experience chess like the extraordinary Beth Harmon? Beth’s ability to envision chess moves on her ceiling enabled her to clear her opponents’ pieces from the board and defeat them. First, the bad news. Star Wars: The Queen’s Gambit is out of print. It was produced at the height of the movie mania in 2000. Being out of print, it’s really hard to find a copy. You can buy one second hand, but you better be prepared to spend a pretty penny. With that out of the way though, let’s get on to the good stuff. Komarov, Dmitry; Djuric, Stefan; Pantaleoni, Claudio (2009). Chess Opening Essentials, Vol. 2: 1.d4 d5 / 1.d4 various / Queen's Gambits. New In Chess. ISBN 978-90-5691-269-7.By now you have probably figured out that I love this game. I really do wish they would make a reprint with some updated components. My copy is starting to show some wear and I’d love to see it with some high quality, painted minis. Benjamin, Joel; Schiller, Eric (1987). Unorthodox Openings. Macmillan Publishing Company. p.97. ISBN 0-02-016590-0. Queen's Gambit Declined: Alekhine Idea 1 d4 d5 2 c4 g6 If there is one criticism of The Queen’s Gambit is that the game play isn’t very deep. It’s essentially a dice fest. You will do a LOT of rolling in this game. You aren’t going to find deep, strategic game play here, but it’s also not as simple as something like Risk. The game is filled with some tough decisions each turn (more on that later). It’s rare to see a licensed game, partially a movie based one, that plays this well. I don’t have a whole lot to gripe about with The Queen’s Gambit. If you are a Star Wars fan, or even just a miniatures fan, try and find a copy if you can. Final Thoughts:

And that’s all there is to it. The Naboo player wins when they shut down the droid control ship and have a majority in the palace throne room. The Trade Federation player wins when he destroys all but 2 of the Naboo palace figures. The Plains of Naboo turn into a huge bloodbath during the game. A victory in this theater isn’t needed to win, but it will certainly help a lot. Game Experience: Final Score: 4 Stars – A ton of fun with a great Star Wars theme. What’s not to like? Highly recommended. Players take turns rolling dice to move their pieces across a board reminiscent of that used in traditional chess games. However, there is a twist! Instead of relying on their knowledge of how the game works to make their moves, players are armed with strategies taken directly from celebrated matches in The Queen’s Gambit. Additionally, players can expand their skillset by playing with support cards that provide them with bonuses throughout the game, allowing for strategic master planning during each move. There are also unique objectives within each match or scenario to bring extra challenge and excitement. The idea, according to the game’s blurb, is that players will embody Harmon’s impressive ability to visualise the board and plan three turns ahead of her opponents. Apparently playing normal chess doesn’t quite fit the bill for us non-prodigies. You should note that masters don't typically go for this line since it's too risky. With accurate play, White should have no problem building a considerable advantage. Still, the Albin Countergambit is one of the best-scoring lines among non-professional players.

Let me start by saying I love playing this game. It is an incredible amount of fun and have never regretted bringing it to the table. I enjoy it so much that I would buy another copy if it were re-released today with higher quality components. That’s not to say that it’s current components detract from the quality, but after 10 years and a lot of plays, they are showing some wear. g6?! – Alekhine idea [6] (D06). White can gain the advantage by 3.cxd5 Qxd5 (3...Nf6 4.Qa4 +/−) 4.Nc3 Qa5 5.Nf3 Bg7 6.Bd2 c6 7.e4 Qb6 8.Bc4 ! Bxd4 9.Nxd4 Qxd4 10.Qb3 Qg7 11.0-0 +/− ( Minev). [7] Planning: Each player will choose 4 cards to play that turn from their hand of 10 cards. Each card will note what figures a player can activate on that particular turn.

This is any area where The Queen’s Gambit really shines as a lot of great components comes with this game. First, you get over 150 miniatures to play with. Unfortunately they are made of a soft, colored plastic, so they aren’t as detailed or high quality as your are probably used to today. But for being produced over a decade ago, I think they still work really well. You have a lot of droids (both battle and destroyer), Gungans, palace guards (along with a few heroes), a trio of Jedi/Sith and a few other miscellaneous figures to work with (Battle Tanks and Fambas to say the least). When the game is fully setup, it’s pretty awe inspiring. The game comes with a 3D, 3 level palace where the main action in the game takes place. After the resumption of international chess activity following World War II, it was less frequently seen as many players moved away from symmetrical openings, tending to use an Indian Defence to combat queen pawn openings; however, it is still frequently played. Inspired by one of Netflix’s smash-hit shows, this brilliant board game takes place on a traditional chess board but, it isn’t a traditional game of chess you’ll be playing. Once all the chess tiles have been captured, the game ends and whoever has collected the most tiles wins.
