Eagles are seen as the “king of the skies” and fly higher than any other bird. They are seen as powerful and strong. Slytherin is easily the house with the most contentious reputation. It was founded by Salazar Slytherin, a wizard with a love for dark magic and prejudice against all wizards who are not pure-blooded. When Hogwarts was founded, Salazar was adamant that Hogwarts should only accept pure-blooded wizards, but the other founders would not agree. Furious, Salazar left Hogwarts, but not without leaving behind the Chamber of Secrets, a dangerous, underground lair housing the Basilisk. Within the house, though, they're well-known for being welcoming and encouraging of creativity, eccentricity, and individuality and being very accepting.

According to Pottermore - Secret Lives of the Hogwarts Ghosts: direct quote: " A few years into her magical education, she betrayed her mother by stealing the diadem – believing it could make her powerful – and running away from Hogwarts. The betrayal embarrassed Rowena, who told no one that the diadem was missing. On her death bed, however, she did send a young man to find Helena, so she could see her daughter for one last time." Few implies at least three years and confirms Helena was still at school. Like every child, Rowling had a dream. With books around her, she wanted to become a writer. So, at age six, Rowling wrote her first book entitled—Rabbit. Then, five years later, she wrote her second book about seven cursed diamonds. Ravenclaw House appeared to have little rivalry with the other houses, except in Quidditch. Harry Potter believed that they tended to side with Gryffindor in its rivalry with Slytherin, as did Hufflepuff house. [26] [27] However, during the 1994 Triwizard Tournament, most Ravenclaws supported Hufflepuff champion Cedric Diggory over Harry. They believed that Harry had, in fact, cheated his way into being a champion and that the true Hogwarts champion was Cedric. [28] Many Ravenclaws (such as Cho Chang) joined Dumbledore's Army and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts along with Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs. They rose at almost the exact moment as the Hufflepuffs and turned their wands upon Pansy Parkinson and Slytherin House in Harry Potter's defence when the former wished to hand Harry over to Lord Voldemort and his army of Death Eaters. [10] Usually spent time in the Transfiguration Courtyard. Duelled with Slughorn and ended up in the Hospital Wing. While the founding father of Gryffindor’s last name implies that the crest should be a griffin, he chose a lion instead.

While the type of snake is not specified, we learn about Salazar Slytherin’s serpent that he kept in the Chamber of Secrets, a Basilisk. So, maybe Basilisks are a good representative of Slytherin House since this is the serpent of Salazar’s choosing. After several years, Salazar Slytherin left Hogwarts. He reasoned that only witches and wizards with pure blood should have their education at Hogwarts. The other founders, however, didn’t share his opinion. But before leaving the school, Slytherin built the Chamber of Secrets. Interestingly, the school adopted their last names for the faculties and used animals to identify them. Thus, a lion, snake, eagle, and badger greet visitors whenever they visit each house.
