Description

The major standout was in 2018, where Redbreast 21 Year Old was named Second Best Whiskey in the World, Best Irish Whiskey, and Best Irish Pot Still Whiskey in Jim Murray’s ‘Whisky Bible’. This achievement and others are a testament to the exhaustive maturation management and meticulous blending techniques at Midleton Distillery in Cork. Pulling from thousands of barrels, Redbreast Single Pot Still whiskey has hung its hat on sherry and bourbon casks for over thirty years much like their category counterparts, the Spots and majority of the Powers expressions. Mmmm, I tell ya, that Single Pot Still character stirs something in me every time I smell it. Rich, sweet and a little oily that wonderful character is accompanied by notes of fruit, vanilla, nuts, spice, citrus and some light sweet, almost floral, notes that drift through on the tail. Tarafsız değerlendirmeyi bir kenara koyarsam, Redbreast 21’in damak tadıma en çok uyan viskilerden biri olduğunu söyleyebilirim. A pour has a rich auburn look. The nose is full of complexity with rich aromas of gingerbread spice, mahogany wood, sherry, Christmas cake, caramel and other subtle baking spices. The palate intensifies with full-bodied notes of oak spice up front, then fades giving way to dried red fruits, rich sherry, cinnamon, all spice, and vanilla. The finish is long with lingering fruity notes, continuing spices, and oak, leaving you fulfilled. Cask strength at 54.6 ABV, Redbreast 27 Year Old’s core makeup is first fill, refill bourbon and first fill oloroso sherry casks. The expression is simply ‘enrichened’ not finished with first-fill Ruby Port pipes. Ruby Port is an essential component to this milestone Irish whiskey.

Redbreast Irish Whiskey prides itself on staying true to the traditional pot still whiskey style that has been a signature of Ireland for decades. Using copper pot stills, all Redbreast whiskey is distilled from a wort of malted and unmalted barley three times to perfection, allowing its elegance to excel. Within the brand, Redbreast 21 is one of the most awarded whiskeys in the world; rightfully so. In other words, this new Redbreast 21 year old had a lot to live up to. Billy told us that it’s a pretty small run, a mix of light and heavy potstill spirit and that some of the casks used were up to 28 years old. In common with the 15 year old, Redbreast 21yo is bottled at the higher strength of 46%.

Yum I love Redbreast 12, but that’s also because I love Single Pot Still Irish whiskey. The warm coppery malty flavor and aroma does something for me, it hits me just right. If you’re a fan of Irish whiskey, or just whiskey in general, do yourself a favor and at least try this at some point. I think you’ll be happy that you did. And while I haven’t substantiated that claim, if you take a look at its awards cabinet, you’ll find that it’s won Jim Murray’s Irish Whiskey of the Year, World’s Best Pot Still Whiskey, Best in Show at the SF World Spirits Competition, and probably 100 other superlative awards across the industry. Suffice it to say that people love this whiskey.Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. The Irish will tell you they invented whiskey-making, and it wasn’t until the Middle Ages that Irish monks brought distilling techniques across the waters to Scotland. Yet that short distance has been far enough that the two whiskeys evolved, over the centuries, into very different styles. Same complex tropical leaning fruit from the nose slides through on the palate and again is accompanied by notes of vanilla, spice, a rich single pot still character and a stronger woody presence than the nose. A touch of honey, citrus and a light earthy quality team up with a bit of mint to add interesting facets to this complex palate.

Whisky reviews for Redbreast 27-year-old

This is one of the best Irish whiskeys I have ever tasted. Redbreast 21 full of depth and complexity from nose through the finish. The box is made of wood with the story of the whiskey inscribed upon it. Although you can read about it, the tasting of this wonderful dram tells its own story. These differences are not carved in stone; the Irish Whiskey Act of 1980 outlines only the broad parameters necessary to label a product “Irish” whiskey. Basically, it requires that whiskey be composed of grains (such as barley, wheat, corn, and rye), be distilled to no more than 94.8 percent alcohol, and be aged at least three years in wooden barrels. These guidelines leave producers a lot of leeway to define their styles. With a whiskey industry that prospered for hundreds of years, Ireland helped establish a taste for whiskey throughout the western world. Legendary producer Bushmills was issued what is now the oldest license to distill spirits in 1608, and within decades Ireland boasted more than 100 distilleries.

B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars. Nose: On the first whiff, this whiskey bursts out of the gate with honey, lemon zest, and short crust pastry. Then as the whisky sits in the glass, rich stewed fruits arrive with a dollop of coconut and tangy cream. Orange zest, apples and pears. This is an incredible nose – one I would happily sit for hours and enjoy.Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition (image via Irish Distillers) Tasting Notes: Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition
