We follow Olympia and Chelsea, the twin daughters of Mama Thames, as they accidentally push over the first domino leading to a series of crazy events that slowly mimic the illustrations of an artist from the late 1800s. It was fun to watch these two characters accidentally cause some shenanigans because they weren’t thinking about the possible consequences of their actions. It turns out that revealing a tree hidden by magic, and breaking any possible boundaries that was part of that, took them on a major learning curve. DEADLY EVER AFTER is a solid 3.5 stars.* The artwork is easily its strongest feature (gorgeous!), while the storytelling is engaging enough (even if the twists are a little easily anticipated). Longtime fans will likely be disappointed that the MCs don't make much of an appearance, but I liked Chelsea and Olympia - they gave the local (I'm assuming ancient) gods from the series a modern spin, in the vein of LORE OLYMPUS.

Peter’s latest case begins with a perfectly innocent car on a homicidal killing spree – without a driver! Then there’s a Serbian refugee, the Most Haunted Car in England, a handsome drug dealer with a nice paisley scarf and a seemingly harmless wooden bench with a dark past. Well firstly it is clear the author knows London well. The description of the lesser known London byways are done well and described brilliantly.Secondly he gives a great description of modern police work. Until I read his bio I felt it had to have been written by a working copper, so his research is top-notch Beverley Brook – A river goddess who is a friend and ally to Peter. Beverley is powerful and enigmatic, deeply understanding London’s rivers and waterways. So we have book 9 in the graphic novels which falls after the events of False Values so I have to be careful as even though these are all standalone books they draw upon characters featured in other stories so by default they create spoilers. Action at a Distance– Peter travels to America to help his friend and fellow wizard, Beverly Brook, investigate a series of magical disturbances in New York City.

Detective Stories– This short story collection features Peter investigating various magical crimes, including a missing person case, a haunted library, and a series of robberies. It is set between The Hanging Treeand Cry Fox.

The mystery component is very tenuous, since the detectives are busy with another case and the mystery is easy to guess. After all, I repeat, I think it is a way to give the twins something to do, and they throw themselves into this adventure. The artist has changed again for this volume, bringing it more closely in style to the earlier work, which I enjoyed more, so this felt more familiar and comfortable to me than the last few volumes. Monday– The story follows our favorite a police officer and apprentice wizard Peter Grant, as he investigates some muggings with a touch of magic to them. Toby is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who is fiercely loyal to Peter and is often at his side during investigations. Toby is a highly intelligent and perceptive dog, and is able to sense danger and potential threats before Peter is even aware of them. Despite his tough exterior, Toby is also shown to be a loving and affectionate pet, who is deeply attached to Peter.
