About this deal

when using alkaline batteries the battery switch must be placed in the alkaline position. Failure to do so could result in serious damage to the batteries or radio. If no batteries are fitted then set the switch to the Alkaline position. This minimises the power consumption when the radio is powered from the mains. Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent type. Danger of explosion if the batteries are incorrectly replaced. We love the features on this endry level DAB digital radio from Roberts. The Roberts Play20 is a compact DAB/DAB+ and FM Radio that enables you to listen to your favourite stations all day long. Whether your at home or out and about. Fitted with rubber bumpers, it's perfectly suited to listening out and about. And Bluetooth lets you stream audio from your smart device to the radio. If this is the first time the radio is used a scan of the Band III DAB channels will be carried out. After each use the radio will remember the mode used and then switch on in that mode the next time it is used. To switch off your radio press the On/Off button. Scan setting - Choose 'Scan setting' and then choose either 'Distant' (your radio will scan for both weak and strong signals) or 'Local' (your radio will scan for stations with good reception).

Factory reset - If you wish to completely reset your radio to its initial state perform a factory reset. Choose 'System' then 'Factory reset' and then choose 'Yes'. All user entered settings will be erased. Manual tune - Choose 'Manual tune' and then choose the desired DAB channel. The signal strength will be displayed. As time passes new stations may become available or you may have moved to a different part of the country. Powered by batteries or an AC adapter, the PLAY 20 offers flexibility in terms of power source. This allows for convenient use in a variety of settings, whether indoors or outdoors. The radio also includes a sleep timer function, enabling users to set a specific time for the radio to automatically turn off. Battery life Up to 25 hours using alkaline cells depending upon volume, and operating mode. Circuit featuresNote: If no signals are found it may be necessary to relocate your radio to a position giving better reception and carry out a scan for new stations. We would recommend for economy that the Play 20 is used via the AC adaptor whenever possible with battery operation for occasional or standby use only. If extended listening using batteries is anticipated, then the use of rechargeable batteries is recommended. If the signal is strong enough and there is RDS data present then the radio will display the station name.

As usual, the Roberts Play also delivers on sound quality. If you’re looking for something that’s going to give you a warm and bold sound wherever you are – this is the device for you. The only downside is that it’s really not designed for very noisy places or large rooms. If you try to turn the volume up all the way, then you’re going to get a level of distortion. Slide the switch inside the battery compartment to the Alkaline position (as shown) and insert four AA size alkaline batteries. Take care to ensure all batteries are inserted with the correct polarity as shown inside the battery compartment. Then replace the battery cover. DRC - Choose 'DRC' then choose 'Off', 'Low' or 'High'. The DRC facility can make quieter sounds easier to hear when your radio is used in a noisy environment. Note: Not all DAB broadcasts use the DRC function. FM menuThe station will be stored under the chosen preset button. Stations stored in the preset memory may be overwritten by following the above procedure.

The Roberts Play digital radio is one of the lesser-known products in the Roberts portfolio. It doesn’t have the same trendy standing as the Roberts Revival or the same retro charm that we’ve come to know and love from Roberts. However, the Play does have an appeal of its own. When it comes to functionality, Roberts usually delivers a great experience. The Play digital radio automatically searches for and discovers DAB radios from the second you turn it on. Finding content to listen to is a breeze, and the reception is excellent too. Press the On/Off button to switch on the radio. A start up screen will be displayed and a station scan will be performed. Some radio stations may have one or more additional broadcasts associated with them. If these are available they will appear immediately after the main station. Note: You should never attempt to recharge alkaline batteries in the radio. Attempted recharging of alkaline batteries can be dangerous. During our time with the Roberts Play digital radio, we found the device to be attractive, well-made and brimming with useful features. However, it definitely could do with a few extra capabilities, like the option to stream content straight from your smartphone. However, since you can do that with almost any other speaker system these days, you might not need streaming on your radio too. The Roberts PLAY 20 is a radio that offers a range of features and functionality. Designed for portable use, this radio is lightweight and easy to carry, making it suitable for use both at home and on the go. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons and then press and release the Auto Tune button. Your radio will scan upwards (low to high frequency) or downwards (high to low frequency) and will stop automatically when it finds a station of sufficient strength.

You may store your preferred DAB or FM radio stations to the preset station memories. There are 20 memory presets, 10 for DAB and 10 for FM. To store presets (5 -10) see overleaf.Audio setting - Your radio will play stereo broadcasts in stereo (via headphones) so long as the received signal is of adequate strength. However, as a stereo signal becomes weaker the audio signal will become poorer. Plug the mains adaptor into your radio and then plug the adaptor into the mains. The charge / battery indicator will flash green indicating the batteries are charging. Batteries will be fully charged in around 7 hours and a message will be displayed. The charge / battery indicator shows a steady green light when the battery charging is complete. Although there is an extendable aerial built into the Roberts Play radio, we didn’t need to use it, and it’s unlikely that you will either. What’s more, the layout of the buttons makes the Roberts Play really easy to use, even if you’ve just got one hand. With intuitive controls, the PLAY 20 allows for easy navigation and operation. It features a clear LCD display that provides information such as the time, station, and battery life. The radio also includes a built-in speaker, delivering crisp and clear sound for an enjoyable listening experience. when using rechargeable batteries the battery switch must be placed in the NiMH position. Batteries will only be charged when the radio is switched off and connected to the AC adaptor.
