Infobase Publishing The life of a rubber tree from the commercial point of view of extracting rubber in many ways, when I was originally in Malaya, was about twenty to thirty years, but over that time there was a considerable amount of research being carried out by the Rubber Research Institute in Kuala Lumpur as to various types of trees which they were experimenting on which would hopefully give a higher yield over a shorter period. The Malaysian Police Band used to come up and play to those who were in the Club on the grass area immediately outside. And one particular evening we went – it was Beating the Retreat – and they were an excellent band, who had been in the past to the Edinburgh Tattoo.
