About this deal

The Ryzen 9 5900X has 12 cores and 24 threads, which is a high number of cores and threads that can handle multitasking and running multiple applications at once very efficiently. As of February 2022, the number of FreeSync technology-enabled displays available is ~2000+, compared to the publicly available listings of competing product solutions at https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/ which lists 308 screens. GD-130. The Radeon GPUs don't fare quite as well in The Outer Worlds as evidenced by these 1080p results. The 6950 XT was only slightly slower than the RTX 3090 Ti, but this is the first sample we have where it wasn't faster at 1080p. We're looking at similar performance between the RTX 3080 Ti, 6900 XT, RTX 3090, 6950 XT and RTX 3090 Ti. It's not enabled in every game, and needs to be coded in by the devs, but it's being baked into game engines now and will certainly become more widely used. I don't want to find myself with an RX 6950 XT, proud of its old school raster performance, when I really want to be running some shiny new lighting effects at 4K in a new game.

The RTX 4070 is now on our list of the best graphics cards, and the RX 6950 XT and other Navi 21 variants have been there on and off over the past couple of years. Today, both rank in the upper portion of our GPU benchmarks hierarchy. But there's more to this than gaming performance, so let's put them both in a cage and see which one can emerge victorious from the Thunderdome.

The new AMD Radeon™ RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT, and RX 6650 XT graphic cards are optimized for DirectStorage to help reduce load times in games and bring expansive worlds to life in amazing detail. The Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphic cards take full advantage of the latest innovations in upscaling technologies such as AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 2 or the new Radeon™ Super Resolution 1. Whether it is AAA gaming or eSports, experience all your games without compromise.

Nvidia also has another 33 games with DLSS 3 support, and while we don't think Frame Generation is a universally perfect solution and is being heavily used for marketing purposes, it's still potentially useful. We generally find the performance increase in terms of frames delivered to the screen doesn't usually correspond directly with how much faster a game feels, but a 50% boost to fps typically feels 10–20 percent smoother. Even if every attempt at a new technology doesn't end up being used everywhere, Nvidia has been doing more over the past few generations. Ray tracing hardware and features have increased substantially since the RTX 20-series, and the tensor core hardware powering DLSS and AI applications is proving particularly useful these days. Now it has DLSS 3 and Frame Generation, and the uptake for DLSS 3 has been much faster than previous versions. One of the benefits of DLSS 3 is that it also requires the games to support Nvidia Reflex, so owners of other Nvidia GPUs also benefit. We've tested 11 games at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, of which we'll go into more detail for a few of them before looking at our 11 game average data and cost per frame analysis. Benchmarks

In this wishful scenario, AMD and Nvidia would have been evenly matched in terms of performance and value. Looking at the Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 3080 10GB, a slight premium for the RTX 3080 can be seen, but that product probably does command a slight premium. Without a doubt, the RX 6950 XT shines brightly as an outstanding GPU, demonstrating the pinnacle of what AMD achieved in its previous generation. Its performance, features, and capabilities have set a high standard. However, the RX 7800 XT, though priced much lower – below the RX 7900 XT but not as low as the RX 7700 XT – is emerging as a dark horse in this comparison.

Clock Speeds

Where the value goes out the window is with the AMD and Nvidia refresh products, and of course, the "halo" products. For rasterization performance, the 6900 XT is much better value than the RTX 3090, saving you around 28% per frame, but for high resolution gaming the RTX 3090 is the faster halo product with better features. As of writing, the 6900 XT and 6800 XT are almost within the same price range and although the new 6950 XT is likely going to be more expensive, in terms of value it's probably going to be only marginally worse with the potential to be worlds better than Nvidia's high-end options since GeForce GPUs are still selling considerably higher than MSRPs. Extreme performance graphics cards tend to be used at higher resolutions, and 4K ultra was the only resolution we tested where the RX 6950 XT couldn't beat the RTX 3090 Ti in standard gaming performance. It does come in second place overall, beating the RTX 3090, which is perhaps one reason why Nvidia released the 3090 Ti at the end of March. Either way, these are likely to be the two fastest cards from their respective companies until the next generation GPUs arrive this fall — and we also don't expect the top Intel Arc Alchemist GPU to be able to match either one in general gaming performance. Although it’s a disappointing release, the RX 6950 XT is still a supremely powerful graphics card. It should last several years before you need an upgrade, especially considering its modest power requirements. Should you buy it?

This is important when pairing with the RX 6950 XT, as the card will be used for demanding tasks. So, providing a large number of cores will ensure smooth performance. Finally at 4K the 6950 XT falls further behind the RTX 3080 Ti and trails the RTX 3090 Ti by a 16% margin, and that's despite boosting performance over the original 6900 XT by 13%. Power Consumption The RX 6950 XT has good ray tracing benchmarks which help to boost gaming performance. However, some reportssay its capabilities are inferior compared to other cards like the RTX 4070. Are AMD GPUs good 2023?A 12900K will help your PC deliver the most efficient multi-core performance for those content creation activities. The Hybrid architecture of Intel helps Team Blue to provide the best results in the past CPU generation. So, if you’re looking for the best performance, you’d love to go with the Intel Core i9-12900K. You can see my full results in the table above. There isn’t much to highlight outside of ray tracing performance. In Cyberpunk 2077,the RX 6950 XT massively underperforms compared to Nvidia’s cards, just like the RX 6900 XT. AMD’s current-gen cards aren’t great when it comes to ray tracing — read our RX 6500 XT review for another example — and the RX 6950 XT doesn’t change that. Content creation Jacob Roach / Digital Trends The 6950 XT is the flagship solution of the AMD previous generation; even though it might seem a bit low. Considering today’s 7000-series, this is a fast and strong GPU capable of delivering great results for content creators, professional power users, and even gamers. Although, we’d normally not recommend using an x950 with only gaming purposes in mind. The AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT has a peak single precision compute performance of 23.65 TFLOPS, which is quite powerful and allows for smooth and efficient processing of large amounts of data.
