About this deal

SAMSUNG UBD-M9000 Smart 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player with 4K Ultra HD Upscaling Review: Quality – 93% Another significant omission is Dolby Vision, the advanced form of HDR, which uses dynamic metadata to optimise picture quality frame by frame. Samsung says there’s no demand for it, and while that may be the case at present, its absence could be a deal breaker for some as content increases – particularly as LG’s UP970 and the Oppo UDP-203 both support it. You might rightly wonder why Samsung bothers with apps at all, since all 4K TVs come with their own built-in streaming apps. However, although most modern 4K TVs support the full range of 4K services, some early 4K tellies may not have, and f you’re a 4K projector owner, having apps built into your player is essential since projectors rarely have built-in streaming apps. When you’re done watching TV you can also stream music, via Spotify or Deezer; delivering fantastic sounding audio. The remote is simple and straightforward to use. Matching the Blu-ray player with its sleek design, you’ll find that there’s a decent ergonomic layout for easy use. The remote can connect to the player via Bluetooth so it matters not if your player is out on show or hidden away, it will still work effortlessly. OK, so if the only effective difference is this additional port - why should I care for it ? Serious question btw ! It's a looooong time since I was TV / accessory hunting last (HDMI was just a jumble of letters in those days ), so I really don't see what this would give. The obvious assumption (which I am getting the idea is quite wrong) is that I can plug this into a soundbar & get better sound than a direct-to-TV HDMI connection with said TV having a soundbar connection. So if I am wrong in this assumption ... ???

Don’t hassle through settings to turn on your HDR. Just connect UHD Player to your UHD HDR TV and automatically get amazing HDR resolution without moving your finger. See the most realistic range of stunning shades burst from the screen without compromising on the detail, breathing new life into every scene. The UBD-M9000 offers twice the colour range and 64x greater detail colour expression than conventional Blu-ray players, surpassing the current Digital Cinema Standard. Enjoy realistic picture quality like never before. Sorry if I have some basic queries but like I say, it's been a long time since I looked at this stuff (early 2000's ?) & it's moved on by miles ! In the box there is a power supply and the remote and an easy-to-follow instruction guide. Less time to set up means more time to enjoy a great picture and sound that comes from this player. The M9500 offers DLNA media streaming from PCs and NAS drives, including hi-res FLAC, WAV, AAC and AIFF up to 192kHz/24-bit and a comprehensive range of video codecs. This thread aims at listing all current and coming HDR10+ blu-ray players and discuss and compare their respective implementation. If you leave the M9500 in its default settings it will automatically set its output to match the native resolution of your display. So if your TV has a native resolution of 4K, the player will upscale all lower resolution content to match that resolution. We tested the upscaling of the M9500 with high definition content (both disc and steaming) as well as standard definition content from DVD and the player proved to be a very capable performer. Samsung's scaling has always been excellent and the M9500 handled high definition content extremely well, delivering images that were detailed and free of unwanted artefacts, whilst it also upscaled DVDs very effectively.

One of my main criticisms of the UBD-K8500 was its lightweight build quality, which compared unfavourably with Panasonic’s more robust players. The UBD-M9500 is slightly improved, but the plastic casing still has the air of a budget player – at this price I’d expect something a little more luxurious. The M9500 also lets you watch content taken on Gear 360 or YouTube 360 videos and control them with the player’s remote. You need to convert Gear 360 content on a Galaxy smartphone or PC first, and watch them via the USB port. Samsung have also given the menu system an update, keeping the easy to setup approach of the K8500 but adding a few new features as well. The basic menu layout is similar and crucially all of the key options default to their auto settings, which means that the player will just optimise the output automatically to match the capabilities of your display. What this means in practice is that the resolution, the frame rate, the HDR and the colour gamut will all be set by the player depending on the EDID information delivered by the display. Although you can select things like resolution and colour format separately we would simply recommended leaving the settings on Auto because the M9500 did an excellent job of optimising itself for all the displays with which we tested the player. However, one thing it won’t do is play 3D Blu-ray discs, which may reflect its dwindling popularity but won’t impress those with a large collection of 3D movies. It doesn’t play SACD or DVD-Audio discs either, both of which are supported by the Sony UBP-X800.Similarly, you don’t need to select the ‘Bitstream (Unprocessed)’ audio setting to make the M9500 output Dolby Atmos or DTS:X – it analyses your audio system and selects the correct mode automatically. Samsung UBD-M9500 – Performance The UBD-M9500 serves up sumptuous UHD Blu-ray pictures. Life of Pi explodes from the screen with masses of fine detail and truly life-like colours. Excellent contrast keeps the image rich and punchy as the camera drinks in the epic Indian landscapes. Integration between this player and a Samsung TV is seamless. You can control both using the Smart Remote that ships with Samsung’s latest sets, which makes life remarkably easy. In fact, those with an all-Samsung system can pretty much grab any of the remotes and find the function they want. Playable discs (recordable media): BD, BD-R, BD-RE, BD-ROM, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW Thank you for taking the time to read our SAMSUNG UBD-M9000 Smart 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player with 4K Ultra HD Upscaling review from the Blu-Ray Players category. Samsung has wisely switched to the Eden user interface (powered by the Tizen OS) introduced on its 2016 Smart TVs. As a result, the UBD-M9500 is a dream to use, offering greater flexibility and better-looking menus than the UBD-K8500.

Performance

Audio-wise, the digital-only output means sound quality is determined by the quality of your system, but streaming Bluetooth through the player from a Samsung Galaxy phone proved a novel and convenient feature. A Now Playing screen appears when the music plays, showing the relevant metadata and an animated EQ meter.

But if you prize convenience over reliability then there’s built-in Wi-Fi with support for 801.11ac. The side-mounted USB port allows you to play music, video and picture files. Samsung UBD-M9500 – Features This 4k player is compatible with 4K UHD movies, Blu-rays and DVDs which is great if you have a collection of films you enjoy watching and you don’t want to part with them. The Samsung UBD-M9000 Blu-ray player will also upscale any non-4K content, making your old collection look better than it ever has before. It offers twice the colour range of existing conventional Blu-ray players and 64 times higher colour expressions, surpassing the digital cinema standard. You’ll enjoy realistic picture quality like never before as this 4K player gives you the Hollywood experience you’ve always wanted to have. The Samsung UBD-M9500 is a fantastic 4K Blu-ray player, then, but does it warrant the extra cash over the Xbox One S? The answer to that question has to be no.If it helps ... the TV under consideration is the Samsung QE55Q7F, and the soundbar under consideration is the Samsung HWMS650.
