But after really taking a look at them, something just feels “off” or just slightly wrong. Maybe in certain cases the hands don’t really go or maybe the bracelet just seems like the wrong choice, but these original designs just reinforce to me the fact that their iconic inspired designs are what they really excel at. These are generally termed "traveler" movements with the idea that the 24 hour hand stays set on a single timezone (home time, GMT, etc.) whereas the 12 hour hand may be set to local time whenever stepping off an airplane that's crossed time zones without interrupting that home time. A good summary; i own two (of ten) San Martins— Datejust and Oris Sixty-Five bronze homages — and am supremely pleased with them (both customized).; they are all that you say. The relevant comparison is, i think, with the upper end Lugyou watch brands like Cronos (i own two of them too) and Hruodland. Their products are comparable but SM wins on customer service i think. The lug to lug is around 50mm, which for a 39mm diameter watch may sound like a lot. However the San Martin Watches’ lugs curve slightly towards their protruding ends which creates a very comfortable fit around your wrist. This watch is surprisingly hard to photograph. The logo on the dial disappears and it becomes a featureless hexagon from many angles, had to oversharpen that pic, the others are better. The dial in real life is about the color it looks here, in some pictures like my last two below it looks more blue. It is blue but with a decent amount of green to it. While some may struggle with this, I believe it may be more appropriate to designate San Martin Watches as a good watch manufacturer as opposed to a “watch brand.” A watch brand connotes a legacy of design and/or innovation or at the very least the imparting of a unique horological perspective and vision. Are San Martin Watches Any Good? In general for all these brands you give up local service, except by independents. OTOH my strong sense is that the dial work, bracelets, and (particularly) case finishing out-points all the, say, entry-level Swatch brands up to Longines. “No” they are still a long way from, say, Omega class but well into the Swiss “entry luxury” class. My SM Oris Sixty-Five makes my Tissot Seastar 1000 look like a high school class project. There is no 80hr PR either . . . but customers can get their watches regulated; what a concept? Who would ever wish to do that? Lot going on with 5 colors on the dial / bezel / handset but it works. Instead of busy, indecisive, and chaotic it feels chill and fun. San Martin uses a huge variety of movements across the watches they manufacture. This pilot model that I’m reviewing here seems to feature the Swiss Ronda 715. This is your pretty standard fare Swiss quartz 3 hand movement that you’ll see in a lot of watches.A bit overdone, the GMT-Master is red which is a nice touch. They should probably omit the 3rd line. You have an option though for a sterile dial but that feels a bit too naked to me. Yes – San Martin watches have gained a reputation for their quality and value in the watch community. While they may not have the same level of recognition as some luxury watch brands, San Martin has built a loyal following due to their attention to detail, craftsmanship, and affordable pricing.
