About this deal

Hetty yang selama ini di Foundling Hospital tidak pernah dipuji dan lebih sering dihukum, sangat senang ketika Bertie selalu memuji nya, entah itu rambutnya indah, matanya biru cantik, dll...

Dogged Nice Guy: Nothing Jem can do can subdue Hetty nor make her love him. Hetty eventually devolves into Jem's very-own Love Martyr. I love the fact Jacqueline Wilson included circus's, mediator's and freak show's into this series! I love them all and it is a great contrast compared to the foundling hospital and 19C London landscape.

Retailers:

After spending most of her childhood cooped up in the Foundling Hospital, Hetty is often confused, scared and in awe by the outside world. As she settles into her job, Hetty becomes a secretary of sorts to Mr. Buchanan, copying his stories as Mr. Buchanan's handwriting is hard to read. In return, Mr. Buchanan agrees to help refine Hetty's memoir, and to supply Hetty with stamps so she can continue to write to her mother. She also finds a potential love interest in Bertie, the local butcher's boy, who takes her out to the fair, on a boat ride, and for a walk in the park. Hetty also accompanies the parlourmaid, Sarah, to a seance with Madame Berenice, a medium. During the seance, an apparition of Hetty's long-dead foster brother, Saul, appears before Hetty, frightening her.

Rose-May: Mr. Buchanan's new servant. She's described as being small, fair with big blue eyes. She's a devout Baptist who refuses to go to Madame Berenice's seances. Hetty finds her repulsive. Hetty Feather (Sapphire Battersea) - a former foundling trying to find her way in the outside world. She also finds a potential love interest in Bertie, the local butcher's boy, who takes her out to the fair, on a boat ride, and for a walk in the park. Hetty also accompanies the parlour maid, Sarah, to a séance with the medium Madame Berenice. During the séance, a ghost of Hetty's long-dead foster brother, Saul, appears before Hetty. This frightens her. Hetty originally plans to become a writer but learns to love performing in the circus and on stage. Her search for identity, both as an individual and as part of a family, is what primarily characterises the book series. When things go wrong she is on her own again, her life is a confusion and she must deal with conflicted love, loss and self discovery. Born in London in 1876, Hetty is the daughter of Evelyn "Evie" Edenshaw and Robert "Bobbie" Waters. Robert did not know about this daughter because he went out to sea while Evelyn was pregnant. Evelyn was unable to raise her daughter alone, so she gave her to the Foundling Hospital. The Hospital named the baby "Hetty Feather", although her birth name is actually Sapphire Battersea.

Follow the twists and turns of Hetty's adventure as she goes out to work as a maid for a wealthy man. She longs to be reunited with her childhood sweetheart Jem - but also finds a new sweetheart, Bertie the butcher's boy, who whisks her away from her household chores to experience the delights of the funfair! This book carries on right where book 1 finishes, Hetty is now 14 and getting ready to leave the Children's Foundling hospital, fully trained and ready to go into work as a servant, she doesn't want the life of a servant but she knows it's the only way to stay close to her mother. However just before she leaves her mother is discovered and sent away, alone again Hetty fears what will become of her. Madame Berenice & Emily: A medium who holds seances. Hetty finds out that she and her sister, Emily, are frauds. Madame Berenice pretends to be possessed by the dead while Emily covers herself in a white veil, pretending to be a ghost.Miss Sarah Smith: An author, member of the Board of Governors and Hetty's ally. She gives Ida a good reference to help get her a job when she's fired from the Hospital and recommends Hetty to Mr. Buchanan. Hetty enjoys reading her stories. Ida Battersea - Hetty's devoted mother who is fired from her job in the Foundling Hospital after it is discovered that she is Hetty's real mother. With the help of Mrs Smith, she gets a new job in Bignor but later dies of Influenza. In addition, Hetty keeps making the same constant mistake of letting her nostalgia and idolisation of people/certain places cloud her rationality and judgement. I really enjoyed the book, because it was so different to all of Jacqueline's other books. Sapphire Battersea is what I would classify as historical fiction at its best. It's not girly, and not for the faint-hearted. It is quite dark at some points, and a really gripping and poignant book. Every chapter was very exciting, especially because at the beginning of the chapter there were a couple of shadows, showing what was going to happen in the chapter, which added to the book.

Sapphire Battersea is the second book in the Hetty Feather book series. It was preceded by Hetty Feather and followed by Emerald Star. It was published in 2011 by Doubleday.Bertie: The Butcher's boy and possible love interest for Hetty. Prior to the story, Bertie accidentally sliced of the top of three of his fingers on his left hand and was also in a workhouse at some point. After Hetty leaves Kingtown, he becomes taken with Mr. Buchanan's new servant, Rose-May, telling her he'd make a tippet out of rabbit skins for her. Bertie is constantly known for flirting with girls, including Hetty, Rose-May, and the two girls from the draper's shop. Hetty's new life is soon shattered when she accuses Mr. Buchanan of plagiarising her work after she finds a poorly written manuscript of her memoir in his office under the name Emerald Greenwich. Hetty is immediately fired. Before she leaves, Sarah gives Hetty her suitcase and Mrs. Briskett gives her a jar full of money as well as some food to take with her. Hetty goes to see Bertie for the last time before setting off to Bignor to be with her mother. Beruntung Mrs Smith yang baik hati yang merupakan salah satu dewan governor, memberikan surat referensi kepada Ibu Hetty dan memberikan pekerjaan kepadanya di suatu daerah pantai yang indah. Parental Substitute: To Diamond, taking on the role of caregiver and big sister, which is often portrayed as frustrating for Hetty who's still only a teenager herself.
