Photography is now an increasingly accessible, democratizing tool for all to use that can also transcend culture and language. And, perhaps most importantly, it serves to undermine the embedded colonialist systems perpetuated by the controlling of story and preconceived assumptions about how people live and their values, behaviors, and beliefs. Visual literacy, at least in the most basic and human terms, is now mainstream and more universal than any language. Over a trillion photographs are made every year—almost none of those professionally—meaning that photographs now more accurately than ever define how we—all of us, and not just ‘photographers’—see the world. Bailey: “I wasn’t aware of the Margaret Urlich confusion because I was living in New York at the time it came out. I didn’t get recognised a lot as I wasn’t here.” Today, the land base of the Oglala Lakota Nation is roughly 2.7 million acres of pristine grasslands in southwestern South Dakota. Pine Ridge Reservation’s land base is the result of many acts that broke and forced together small pieces of Unci Maka, our Grandmother Earth. This is the place of the Wounded Knee Massacre, an attempt to end a way of life and annihilate our circle, our connections, and our homelands.

The song entered the ARIA chart again last October at No.79 after being used in a Bingle insurance ad. However it was a soundalike version. Step into the whimsical world of Singing Horses, the game where music and imagination gallop together. Not every day can you find a band of Swedish horses ready to serenade you with their a cappella skills. These equine vocalists are eager to show off their harmonious talents, and they're inviting you to be their conductor!Higher Than Hope made No.47 on the US Top 100 in mid 1990, and Braithwaite filmed a video for the song in LA. A compilation album called Higher Than Hope, featuring songs from Rise and Edge, was released for the US market. Music games teach and inspire, but they're also a lot of fun. So, whether you're looking to improve your knowledge of music theory, develop a sharper rhythm, or want to compose music without having technical music skills, there's a music game to help you achieve musical nirvana in this collection. Popular Rhythm Games The Horses had a slow trajectory to the top. It entered the Australian Top 50 on March 1, 1991 at No.38, then the Top 10 on April 5 at No.8. It spent two weeks at No.8, a week at No.5, two weeks at No.3, one week at No.2 then hit No.1 on May 24, 1991, where it stayed for two weeks. It would up being the fourth-highest selling song of 1991 in Australia, helping Rise sell over 300,000 copies. It joins Braithwaite’s 1974 solo hit You’re My World, and Sherbet’s Summer Love from 1975 and Howzat from 1976 as his Australian chart topping singles. Higher Than Hope, written by Braithwaite and Hussey, was the album’s next single. It was also championed in the US, where Braithwaite was being groomed for success. Roger Davies, manager of Braithwaite’s original band Sherbet, was now a heavy hitter in the US market managing Olivia Newton-John and Tina Turner (now also Pink, Sade and Cher).

Want to compose opera? Try Blob Opera. That might change your mind. The game was built as a machine learning experiment and uses animated blobs to sing... well, whatever you want! And you can record it, perfect. Part of that promotion included the video for The Horses; with CBS courting a few directors to provide their best concept for the song. In this game, you're the maestro of this very special musical group. Each horse brings a unique sound to the ensemble - from deep beats to high melodies. It's up to you to mix and match their voices to create a symphony of hoof beats and harmonies. Will you lead them to a perfect performance? How to Play It’s one of Keith’s things to go in and record while you’re in the middle of a tour and your playing is in good shape,” Charlie Watts said. “The Muscle Shoals Studio was very special, though – a great studio to work in, a very hip studio, where the drums were on a riser high up in the air, plus you wanted to be there because of all the guys who had worked in the same studio.” He may be humble, but The Horses is for Braithwaite what You’re the Voice has become for John Farnham — a national anthem. Both songs weren’t written by the artist themselves, but have become synonymous with them. The Horses has had over 1.7 million views on YouTube; remarkable for an Australian artist.

New games

When I first got into international photojournalism, cameras were still relatively esoteric devices requiring technical knowledge about film and apertures and focal lengths and shutter speeds. And as a result, it was often true that those of us with the privilege of that technical training—usually western, white, men like myself—got to go tell the stories from “far-off” places. And, likewise, distribution of those photographs was specialized and rarefied, limited to books and magazines and eventually the earliest derivative internet publications. But over time—and in the last 10 years especially—with the introduction of smart phones and the explosion of the internet and social media, we have seen the barriers to doing and sharing photography almost completely disappear. And I love it.
