If you’re hosting a Pride event or you simply want to keep your party decor light and bright, you can mix up a chromatic range of candy-infused liquor. Line up these vodka shots in a rainbow, the colors of your country’s flag, or the hues of your favorite soccer or football team. It’s as if they created this drink for themed parties.

And some supplies you probably already have: five empty plastic water bottles, a funnel (we used the OXO Good Grips Funnel Set), some bowls for separating the Skittles into flavors, a measuring cup, cheesecloth, and coffee filters. As long as you use the same measuring container (glass, cup, jug, etc) for the “1 part”, the ratios will be correct and you can make as much as you need to. To infuse vodka with Skittles, you’ll need to think ahead. You need to leave the candy in the alcohol for at least 24 hours. First, separate the Skittles by color and resist eating them all. You will need a lot (around 70 Skittles per every seven ounces of vodka), so buy several bags. Then, get out several empty bottles, mason jars, or containers — one per color of Skittles vodka. Place the skittles at the bottom of each bottle, then fill to the top with vodka, keeping in mind the ratio given above. Make sure the Skittles are fully submerged. Tightly cap up your bottles or containers and shake vigorously. You’ll notice that the vodka almost instantly becomes infused with color. Leave overnight to let the rest of the sugar in the candy dissolve, and then pass the infused vodka through a fine-mesh strainer to catch any undissolved bits of candy. Cheesecloth works even better. This drink doesn’t contain any Skittles, but is made to taste like the candy. If you’re a fan of this colorful treat but not quite convinced you want a boozy shot, you’ll likely be into this drink. It’s sugary, slightly acidic, and full of rum. You’ll get your evening off to a great start with this highly-palatable creation. Trust us, there are no healthy ingredients included, and that’s what Friday nights are for, right? One 1.75 liter bottle of vodka (we like Absolut or Svedka for this – you don’t need the most expensive vodka, but do avoid the cheap ones) You’ll also probably want to cover your workspace with newspaper or freezer paper– the Skittles Vodka infusion can get messy. Don’t forget to put a bowl or measuring cup underneath to catch the liquid. If you really don’t want any candy chunks, double filter the drink. The second time, use an even finer strainer, like a mesh coffee filter. When you’ve finished straining, use a funnel to help you carefully pour the infused vodka into bottles for storage.

It’s sweet and delicious and a great drink for the summer while sitting in the sunshine or to serve for the 4th of July! If serving in a punch bowl add hulled strawberries and cherries, if serving from a pitcher or drinks dispenser have chopped fruit available for guests to add a garnish to their glass.
