Description

I also wasn’t a fan of the Church that was involved. I understood why, what with the evil symbolism of the snake and how the Church worked to get people amped up, but overall, until the ending it was a distraction. Ali likes to wear the smaller snakes as accessories while she searches for new opportunities to interact with them. Until Ali visits one of her aunts, Ali’s family finds it difficult to comprehend her obsession. Although Johnson uses visual details and beautiful language throughout her book, the majority of the aspects in her novel are unrealistic. This isn’t a huge deal since most kids have vivid imaginations. In this novel, the horror and chaos don't really come from the snake. They come from partisan squabbles, from political posturing. From a mayor who's so image-conscious that he's willing to round up 500 cops from all five boroughs and have the lot of them comb Central Park, inch by inch, on a 100-degree day. All so they *might* catch one stray reptile who probably wouldn’t survive the winter anyway. This book covers all 137 species of snakes in Africa, and as well as covering the dangerous ones, this book includes 70 species that are often confused with the venomous species. It also covers the type of venom produced by each species and its effects on snakebite victims. It features stunning photos and depicts all of the snake species in the book with a thorough profile of each. Also included is first aid advice if you get bit and tips on how to avoid being bitten in the first place. This gem is for people who love the snakes in the southwestern states. It has information for people who may want to keep these snakes as pets, but it mostly talks about conservation, biology, habitats, and different species – including invasive species.

Our favorite thing in this book had to be the information on the Titanoboa, a 50-foot-long prehistoric snake. Children will want to refer to this book often because it is filled with amazing illustrations, entertaining activities and quizzes, and startling information about anatomy, diet, and personality. Everybody's got an opinion. Protesters want the park shut down; counterprotesters think they're nuts. Pranksters have a field day scaring the hell out of bystanders with rubber snakes on strings. One well-to-do socialite organizes the city's dog owners and has them sweep the park with all their poochies in tow--on the theory that man's best friend is also man's best snake-wranglerAt least a few paragraphs in each chapter are told from the mamba's perspective. Here she is in this strange place, an ocean away from home, just doing her best to get by. (And munch on a squirrel now and then.) The Little Snake is beautiful fable and tells the story of Mary, who befriends a small golden snake named Lanmo when she was a child. Lanmo visits Mary throughout her life, and it’s a story of friendship and heartbreak. Many fans of this book have compared this book to The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (October 2019)

The body of her first "victim" is barely even cold when a media circus invades her new territory. Armed vigilantes sweep Central Park, hell bent on killing the snake, or at least taking her picture. Whatever comes first.

Children’s and Picture Snake Books

The question in online snake groups that follows the species identification is, “Is it dangerous/venomous?” After all, that’s what we really need to know — especially when we have children or pets that play in the yard where we spotted the snake. Grand in scope yet propulsive in narrative force, The Snakehead is both a kaleidoscopic crime story and a brilliant exploration of the ironies of immigration in America. I love this cover! MeetKiranmala, who’s in 6th grade and lives in New Jersey. Everyone is fine and normal untiluntil her parents vanish and a demon crashes into her home.Kiranmala finds out that, in fact, she is a real Indian princess, and is thrust into a world of magic and danger, including avoiding the Serpent King of the underworld. Everything You Need to Know About SnakesbyJohn Woodward If you’re looking for a field guide then it’s a good idea to choose a book that specifically covers the snakes in your region. What I didn’t like: I’d say my biggest annoyance here was the love story that seemed to be tossed in between our herpetologist and a reporter. Godey tried to give it some ‘meant to be’ sub plot but it was incredibly weak and when the two characters were together the dialogue was brutal and laughable.

We get to know the snake through its own POV - through its behaviour and biology. And it’s place in history (presented as research by one of our intrepid reporters). This comprehensive guide covers the states east of the Mississippi, from Wisconsin to Mississippi eastward to the Atlantic coast. This book includes beautiful photos of all known snake species in the region, maps showing their geographic range, and complete profiles of each species. Each profile includes all the information a non-biologist needs to correctly identify a snake. Here’s a gorgeously illustrated book from the snake’s perspective. Verdi is a young python who loves his yellow skin. He does not want to grow up and turn green like all the pythons. To rebel against the change, Verdi tries everything he can think of, but doing so lands him in some trouble. This book is about accepting change while still remaining true to oneself. How Snake Got His Hiss: An Original TalebyMarguerite W. Davol, illustrated by Mercedes McDonald It combines intriguing visuals with straightforward text to make learning about snakes fun and exciting for kids. Verdi is a snake that’s born a tad bit unique in the deep forest where every serpent is green. This little slithery creature is a bright shade of yellow. Young readers will learn the value of accepting oneself as you are in this beautifully drawn picture book from the author of Stellaluna. Young Verdi does not desire to grow large and turn emerald.A few reviewers pointed out some inaccuracies, such as calling snakes “poisonous” instead of “venomous.” Sister Ping in 1990: the FBI described her then as ‘the most successful alien smuggler of all time’. Photograph: New York Daily News Archive/NY Daily News/Getty Images Africa is home to several hundred snake species, and The Dangerous Snakes of Africa by Stephen Spawls covers all of them. This book is overflowing with information and stunning photos covering almost one-seventh of all known snake species worldwide. It is a fabulous desk reference for snake lovers; it’s organized alphabetically and has alphabetical indices for both species and common names. Plus, it includes many not-so-common species that you may never have heard of were it not for books like this.
