Description

The Separatist Alliance poses a threat to peace in the galaxy, wielding a massive droid military with overwhchning numbers. Standing against them are the clone troopers of the Galactic Republic, who are trained as soldiers from their conception and deeply loyal to their cause. The war between them is an epic strugle in which every battle could turn the tide and change the fate of the galaxy... [4]

The three of them are easy to build and no matter how you build them they play the same, the encouragement is to construct them based on what you have to create natural synergy but this is not mandatory and I love that. Each one has been designed really well to create cool looks to make them stand out on the battlefield and now you can create the ultimate force made of the 212th led by both Cody and Obi Wan. Painting What is beefier than a unit that can spend dodge tokens to cancel crits? A unit that can spend shared dodge tokens to cancel crits. Dodges have always had something of an agency problem relative to aims; if a unit takes a dodge, your opponent can just shoot something else. With Clone Token sharing and Exemplar, however, a dodge on one unit is a dodge on all your units (with good cohesion) and with Situational Awareness your opponent has no recourse except to just try and plow through the dodges, if they don’t have High Velocity. Clone lists built around Situational Awareness and dodge sharing are extremely durable, and are often built around Obi-Wan and Padme. Obi-Wan provides even more durability to your spacedudes between Barrier and his Guardian, both of which still work just fine against High Velocity. Offensive Push This used to be a bit more competitive slot for Phase IIs, but Offensive Push got priced out of consideration with its December ’22 cost increase and you can’t spend standbys anymore from Exemplar (thank goodness for that) so Overwatch isn’t great on them anymore either. There are still a couple options here, though. Situational AwarenessWhile the original Legion figures were "fixed pose" and made of a few pieces, the Clone War separatistfigures are supplied on sprues (like the old airfix models, or like Games Workshops models) with more individual parts. This allows more flexibility in creating individual and more dynamic poses, rather than having an army of identical figures, and can make painting easier. But this does mean they are more fiddly and time consuming to put together. So please bear that in mind - Especially if you're thinking of building a massive separatist droid army. The clone figures are more similar to the old style legion figures ( not on sprues, less parts). Star Wars: Legion is played over the course of six rounds as you and your opponent duel over objectives on a battlefield of the Galactic Civil War. At the end of six rounds, the player with the most victory tokens (earned from objectives) wins the game. On that note, let’s get into the gameplay, and I will try not to let my feelings towards my plastic babies interfere with my judgment as a board gamer. Review

Phase II Clones are your beef. They’re durable, they hit hard, and they have thumbs. Use them to throw dice and score objectives. Positioning Four unpainted, uniquely-sculpted Phase II Clone Trooper miniatures and a Phase II Clone Trooper unit leader miniature appear with their standard issue DC-15A blaster rifles. Padme: Similar to Anakin above, Padme provides good token generation for your Phase IIs. Her two pip command card is also great at creating Fire Support opportunities via the free move it provides. However, that’s not to say it wasn’t fun. It was fun, for the most part. Even when it wasn’t fun, even when the battle droid arms didn’t stay in the position I wanted them to, even when I was assembling the 4th module of the same 9-piece battle droid, it was still incredibly fun and satisfying at the end, knowing that I had built (though imperfectly) all 39 figures. There’s a greater sense of ownership here than with even my beloved Imperial Assault miniatures, many of which I’ve painted. All 35 miniature sculpts… and you need assemble every one of them!A BARC Speeder miniature gives your Clone Troopers some much-needed speed as they look to outmaneuver the Separatist's battle droids and can be assembled with or without its sidecar. Those who include the sidecar can further customize their speeder with a twin laser gunner, an RPS-6 gunner, or an ion gunner. [3] Overwatch is my go-to for an Anakin/Padme list, where you can spend Anakin or Padme’s standby tokens via Exemplar, or for Yoda where you can do nearly the same thing (between Guidance and his three pip). A Phase I unit with a Captain, heavy, and Overwatch makes for a very beefy corps unit that can zone effectively at Range 3 and ignore suppression on demand. It’s a little pricey, at between 89-94 points (depending on whether you run the RPS, DC-15, or Z-6, all of which are good choices here), so I wouldn’t run more than 1-3 of these, but they’re a great unit to supplement Anakin or Yoda. Situational Awareness The components are excellent, as per the usual with Fantasy Flight Games. Specific to the Clone Wars Core Set is the harder plastic for the Separatists and the BARC Speeder, which add some really cool details. The tokens, range finder, movement pieces, and dice all work great, though buying some extra dice for Legion will save some time (only 3 of each die are included in the core set, even though some units require up to 6 or 7 of a dice color). The art, though sparse, is good, and it’s nice to see some new prequels art instead of some of the same old original trilogy art that Fantasy Flight has been reusing for 5+ years. Whether they're trained to lead their fellow clones into battle or repair vehicles on the fly, the impact of these specialists is felt far beyond their individual units. Soon, you’ll be able to make use of these clones’ special skills with the Republic Specialists Personnel Expansionfor Star Wars™: Legion! Air Support. Beam slices through tight enemy formations, allowing the commander using it to target up to two additional enemy units. However, vehicles aren’t the only way for the Republic to mount an offensive. Clones are perhaps the best resource Republic commanders have to complete their objectives and when rallied to

If you have Anakin, the Exemplar surges are probably enough to get good value out of Boil on a Phase I. If you don’t have Anakin though, you might consider putting Boil in a Phase II unit so you can convert those surges on your guardian rolls. Training Once each player has assembled their army, players will take turns eliminating certain cards that determine their army’s starting points, the weather, and the objectives. Objectives can range from controlling certain buildings or areas to uploading intel at communication points. Finally, players will set up the terrain cooperatively. The core set includes 8 barricades and a suggested setup for them. Legion is meant to be a sandbox, so custom terrain is not only welcome; it’s recommended. Players will just need to decide what cover bonus, movement hindrance, and elevation each terrain type is. The set up for the training mission.Fire support is all about converting those surges. Adding Critical 1 isn’t quite as good as just the entire pool having surge/crit, but it is the next best thing, especially if you also have some surge tokens lying around (preferably on Exemplar units so you can spend all of them). This pool is 64/8 (if the DC-15 is also at range 3) or 8 hits before accounting for any extra surge tokens lying around. Yoda supported by Z-6 As skilled as he is, Kenobi may have met his match in General Grievous. Proudly wielding the trophy lightsabres he has collected from the Jedi he has defeated in battle, Grievous is a particularly dangerous opponent, his agility making him equally adept at avoiding damage as he is at doling it out. Within this Core Set, you’ll find one beautifully detailed General Grievous miniature that can be assembled in three different ways: with two of his trophy lightsabers and a cloak; carrying a single lightsabre and a DT-57 “Annihilator” blaster pistol while shrouded in his cloak; or with all four trophy lightsabres at the ready. Beyond their personal skills, Clone Commanders have the weight of the Republic behind them and they know how to use it with three new command cards available exclusively to the Republic. Vehicles often play an important role in Republic strategy, and a Clone Commander can easily set up a

Courage 2: The Phase IIs’ higher courage might be the biggest thing that sets them apart from Phase Is and makes it so they don’t risk losing an action with just one suppression.

Building A Star Wars Army

War has engulfed the galaxy. The vast forces of the Separatist Alliance, bolstered by seemingly endless ranks of battle droids, have pushed the Galactic Republic to the brink of dissolution and defeat. The Republic’s only hope is its army of elite clone troopers, led into battle by noble, Force-wielding Jedi Knights. The war between them is an epic struggle where every battle could turn the tide and change the fate of the galaxy. You can immerse yourself in this epic conflict, assembling your forces and leading them against your opponents in the legendary ground battles of Star Wars™ with the Clone Wars Core Set for Star Wars™: Legion! Ultimately, Star WarsLegion is more than just a game—it’s an invitation to create an army that only you could have built, gathering troopers, vehicles, and iconic characters from the Star Wars saga and pitting them against your opponent’s army in battle. The first step in building your army is to select your side and choose the units that will make up your army. Even within the Core Set, you already have impactful choices to make with units of Rebel Troopers and Stormtroopers, along with 74-Z Speeder Bikes, an AT-RT, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. You may be planning to play out a small-scale skirmish between just a few units or a massive battle, but either way, the units that you choose are the foundation of your army. Defense: Red dice, one health per model. The same as Storms, but again, Phase Is have numerous ways to access surge tokens to upgrade this further.
