About this deal

First off, this book is just lovely to look at. It is designed in a simple style but makes my nerdy heart sing whenever there is a colourful silhouette of a snitch. Secondly, Cassandra is doing an absolute wonderful job reeling the reader/chef into the recipes by starting them off with relatable anecdotes. I honestly grinned to myself more than once, thinking "yep, that's it!" Author Cassandra Reeder has brought together fun and out of this word recipes based on the wonderful geeky worlds of Sic-Fi and Fantasy. THE GEEKY CHEF COOKBOOK: Real-Life Recipes For Fantasy Foods covers shows/stories/games that will have fans tying on their favorite show geeky aprons, and heading to the galley/mess hall to get their cook on. How about starting the dinner with a nice Slurm from Futurama or if you want to get your significant other in special mood an alcoholic beverage like a Romulan Ale.

Which means that I could not be more excited that there is a book for people like me. To re-make, re-live and be part of their favourite fantasy world through the fabulousness that is good food. Happily, many of the recipes are easily veganized by swapping out the animal-derived ingredients for a vegan version. Exhibit A: I've already made my own version of the " Bacon Pancakes" without realizing their connection to Adventure Time - it's as simple as taking your own favorite pancake recipe and throwing some pan-fried Lightlife bacon in there. Vegans even get a shout-out in "Blue Milk" - which basically sounds like a beautiful blue ice cream shake, btw. Cassandra Reeder’s The Geeky Chef Cookbook is a fun collection of unique recipes which are inspired by popular media like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games and The Legend of Zelda. I love Reeder’s writing style and the detailed recipe instructions. I also like the pictures but I would have liked to see all the finished food as well as a more exciting book design. You’ve watched the TV shows and movies, played the video games, and read the books. Now it’s time to level-up your geek factor…into the kitchen.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing for this book in exchange for an honest review. Let me start out by saying that, as a vegan, what drew me to The Geeky Chef Cookbook wasn't so much the recipes as the intersection of food and pop culture. Two of my favorite things, made exponentially better when mashed up together! step-by-step instructions will show you how to make a Tatooine Sunset from Star Wars and the infamous Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Sip on some Romulan Ale from Star Trek or slam down the Noble Pursuit from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Complete Photo Guide to Cookie Decorating

The recipes are clearly detailed and easy-to-follow. I love Reeder’s light and witty humour which gives a lovely touch to an already wonderful cookbook! Each recipe begins with a great brief introduction about the media that inspired it. Most of the dishes are simple and feature common pantry staples. However, for the more adventurous, there are some slightly more complicated dishes with fun specialty ingredients like high energy plankton, herring, and squid! Calling all Geeks!! What an awesome cookbook, who would think that you could get the same food that is in your most favorite geeky shows, such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and even Dr.Who? Well with this cookbook you can. The first chapter is Beverages, non alcoholic. Blue Milk from Star Wars, Red Potion from various video games such as The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft and World of Warcraft. Another beverage is Butter Beer from Harry Potter and of course it would not be complete without a "Blood" recipe from your favorite vampire shows. On to alcoholic recipes to add a bit of spice to your marathon watching geeky shows party. Anyway. My point is: Pop culture and food? Totally my jam. Even though I thought it unlikely that I'd actually make anything from The Geeky Chef Cookbook - or at least precisely as directed - I suspected I might enjoy it anyway, maybe even come away with some new ideas and a list of recipes to veganize. Let your love for sci-fi or fantasy shine with The Geeky Chef series by creating food and drinks from your favorite shows, movies, and video games. Your cool, homemade, fiction-themed spread will make you the life of the party. Incredibly fun and creative, and colorfully designed, The Geeky Chef books make the perfect gift for the geek in your life who lives in a world of their own.

Remove from heat, then add the butter and vanilla and stir some more, until both are completely incorporated. Stir in the iced water a little bit at a time, until the dough comes together and you are able to form a ball. Wrap the ball of dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 4 hours. Champagne! Using thoroughly American ingredients like bourbon and apple cider, this delicious shooter Now, I know what you’re thinking. “but Mal, do I have to be a geek to enjoy The Geeky cookbook?” To that I say, “Dwight, you ignorant slut!” Even if you’ve never watched an episode of Game of Thrones (seriously?). Even if you’ve never heard of Harry Potter (really?). Even if you have no idea whether you’d join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks (come on?!?). I still think you’d enjoy the recipes that Reeder has created. The pictures are shiny and each recipe is accompanied by a paragraph that explains what fandom the recipe is inspired by and a little context of what and how the food came about. Whether you binge sci-fi TV shows, rewatch cult films, get addicted to MMORPGs, or read all the fantasy book series, The Geeky Chef Cookbook has your fictional food fantasies covered.

What do I think of the cookbook?? I think it is awesome! If you love to cook or bake, and you are a geek for anything science fiction, then you absolutely have to have this book. It is available in Kindle or print. I highly recommend this book. Very unique! You can visit the author here www.geekychef.com/ Using a pastry roller, roll out the dough to fit a 9-inch pie tine and press the dough evenly into the bottom and sides of the tin. Cut off excess. Add pie weights or dry beans to keep the crust from warping. Preheat oven to 375 F. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Now, I am an absolute noob in the kitchen, but most of the recipes are so simple and great that even I can do them and they look AMAZING (my personal favourite are the Pumpkin Pasties, SO GOOD!), which means that you definitely have no excuse not trying these out. The pictures along want to make you be really good at cooking, I promise you.Lastly, I have seen that Cassandra does have tips on making the dishes veggie or even vegan (at least some of them) - at least on her blog, which I highly appreciate. Really really worthwhile effort and a great collection. This would elevate the next D&D or LAN or geeky movie night, or book club (when we're allowed to safely gather again) to the next level for sure. The Geeky Chef Cookbook is full of appetizers, main dishes and desserts inspired by all your favorite fandoms. Some of the recipes are classics with a twist. Some of them are new creations. All of them sound delicious. This seems like a great time for cookbooks as we are all probably eating at home more. This entry has a fun twist. The author has created recipes around favorite books. Below are some examples: I am really impressed and mildly amazed at the broad array of food from a very broad array of literary and cultural icons as disparate as Babylon5, Discworld, TMNT, Hunger Games, Zelda, HP, Minecraft and so many more.
