About this deal

In the city, she tries to steal a horse, but is caught. In a scuffle, she wounds a man, but when he forgets her, the injury disappears. She decides to head to Paris. In Part Two, the devil appears yearly, each time asking Addie if she's ready to relinquish her life and her soul. Each time, she declines. He takes on the form and name, Luc, of an imaginary stranger Addie once daydreamed about. Addie learns to survive and navigate her new world. In present day, Addie sees Henry again, who recognizes her, and they go on a date.

Addie has plans with Henry today. She goes to the bookstore and is excited to find that he remembers her. She’s introduced to Bea, too. He takes her to an arcade room hidden behind a laundromat, speakeasy-styled, and afterwards they go to a movie. In the darkened theater, she notes his resemblance to Luc. I am stronger than your god and older than your devil. I am the darkness between stars, and the roots beneath the earth. I am promise, and potential, and when it comes to playing games, I divine the rules, I set the pieces, and I choose when to play.” What would you do if you could live forever? Addie LaRue gets the chance to find out, but not without a catch. No one, not even her parents, will remember who she is, and she will be instantly forgotten by everyone she meets.Afterwards, Addie demands to know how much time Henry was given. Henry admits his deal was for one year. He has 35 days left. Desperate, Addie puts on the ring and calls on Luc. She agrees to spend the next night with him, and in exchange he’ll consider letting Henry live. Henry has only a year to live. But Addie makes a deal with Luc to keep Henry alive. Let’s discuss this turn of events. But she only gets as far as that before the letters dissolve. It’s not the medium—no matter how she tries to say her name, no matter how she tries to tell her story. And she has tried, in pencil, in ink, in paint, in blood.

This is a book about a girl, a boy, a devil, and the stories that get told and repeated and remembered. This is a tale of power dynamics and imbalances and what humans are willing to do to not feel trapped and alone. This is all about a young girl who lives her life for herself, who lives her life in spite of the odds, who lives her life in hopes someone will recall her from memory. This evocative and clever tale will leave you smiling, filled with love and longing for more magical moments in everyday life."— CNN, Best Books of October Last year, eOne acquired rights to the movie, which will be produced by Gerard Butler’s company G-Base. Butler, Alan Siegel and Danielle Robinson of G-Base will serve as producers alongside Schwab. Ilda Diffley will executive produce. Jillian Share, Laurel Thomson and Ashley Alexander will oversee for eOne. Time is discussed quite a bit in this story, the infinite amount of time Addie and Luc have, the brief amount of time Addie has with any particular person, and the short amount of time Henry thinks he has to live. What does it make you think about the amount of time in your own life, and what you do with it? In Part Seven, Henry lives and writes a book based on the stories that Addie has told him. He publishes the book, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, as fiction and without an author. Luc thinks he's won, but Addie knows that her new deal only requires her to stay with him for as long as he desires. Addie plans to break his heart and drive him away.

Addie tries to write a letter, but the words fade as she writes. When she steps on a wood-carved bird, it breaks, but then fixes itself. She takes it with her. She is unable to leave a mark on the world, but she can steal things. She heads towards Le Mans. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world. Henry had a heart defect when he was younger. Since then, he’s always been a very sensitive boy. As a teenager, he uses alcohol and drugs to dull the feelings. He’s in his late twenties when he meets Tabitha Masters, and they are together for two years. He proposes, but she says no. How do I even begin to describe this book to you? There are truly so many layers woven together to make this story. Many of you know, this is something that V.E. Schwab has been working on for a decade and you can tell they really put their whole heart and soul into these complex characters: By 1715, Addie is more street smart. One night, after she has drugged a man laudanum to take his money, the shadow appears. The shadow reminds her that he can simply take her soul now and end her misery, if she’s done with this life. Addie angrily declines.

Today, Addie finds a new used bookstore has cropped up, The Last Word. She steals a book, but the clerk, Henry Strauss, catches her. It’s a battered copy of the Odyssey in its original Greek. He lets her take it. Part Two: The Darkest Part of the Night Addie is now dressing as a man to have more freedom to roam around. It’s been four years since he’s received a visit from Luc (the shadow).

This section opens with an acrylic painting of seven dots on a monochromatic canvas of greys. By artist Samantha Benning. What did you think about the ending? What will happen between Addie and Luc? Will she ever break free? See the starry cover for V.E. Schwab's 'The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue' ". EW.com . Retrieved June 19, 2021.

Do you think Addie loves Henry? Or does she love that he can remember her? How does her relationship with Henry differ from her relationship with Luc? Henry meets his younger sister Muriel for breakfast. She mentions that their brother David, the youngest lead surgeon at Cedars Sinai, has asked about him (which Henry is skeptical of because David only cares about himself). Addie and Luc’s relationship is complicated and passionate. Do you think it is love? Or something else? After Addie leaves Remy’s place, Luc finally pays her a visit, the first in four years. He senses her weakness and asks if she’s ready to give up her soul, but she says no. That night, Addie decides to learn how to read.Henry, ah how I love our broken Henry. He is the first person in three-hundred years to see Addie and remember her. The only person that she can say her name to. Addie sees the real Henry too and it is something he hasn’t had for a while. I do love how broken yet sweet our Henry is. July 29, 1714 is the day that 23-year-old Addie LaRue is supposed to marry Roger, a widower from her small French village of Villon-sur-Sarthe. But Addie has no desire to marry Roger and spend the rest of her life caring for his children and performing other domestic duties. She desires a life of freedom and adventure, so she runs to the surrounding woods and prays to “the old gods” to help her. Estele, an eccentric old woman from Addie’s village, taught Addie how to pray to the old gods. She stressed that Addie should be careful what she asks of them and, most importantly, “ never pray to the gods that answer after dark.” But Addie fails to heed Estele’s warning and continues to pray, not realizing that darkness has fallen. Soon, a god that resembles the handsome stranger Addie has fantasized about since adolescence answers Addie’s prayers and agrees to grant Addie the “freedom” and “more time” that she desires—if she promises to surrender her soul to him once she grows bored or tired of her immortality. Addie agrees, then she sinks into the darkness. Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?
