LP: “It was our anthem for trying to break out of a mundane life. We used to love playing it. The energy on that was cool between us; it’s definitely a strong one.” The Irish Charts - 2006 Certification Awards - Multi Platinum". Irish Recorded Music Association . Retrieved 24 September 2014. Paul Scott (30 November 2006). "The Kooks – Inside In / Inside Out – Review". Stylus Magazine. Archived from the original on 21 January 2012 . Retrieved 1 March 2012. Out today, the release is coupled with a nostalgic visual for " She Moves In Her Own Way" featuring unseen footage from the iconic music video in 2008, directed by Diane Martel (The Killers, The 1975, The White Stripes). The new video shows a fresh band from Brighton celebrating their successful debut album on the road; a wholesome time capsule that is reminiscent of an unforgettable era in pop culture for British Indie bands. Watch here. The reissue contains four alternate versions of ‘Seaside’, ‘Ooh La’, ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ and ‘Naïve’. ‘Naïve’ is still probably one of the most iconic singles released by any British band, it has amassed over 1.3 billion streams on Spotify. The alternate version of ‘Naïve’ still has the catchiness that the original has, something that could never be lost in years to come. As said in the literature that came with the LP, Inside In / Inside Out ‘perfectly captured the petulant urgency of adolescence.’

LP: “It’s political, man! We used the chorus for ‘Matchbox.’ That was one where we just cut it up. It was like, ‘Here’s my section, here’s your section…’” LP: “I think it’s great that I was capable of singing that at that age. I think it was quite brave in a way. It’s so strange, it’s like an evergreen kind of song. The meaning keeps perpetuating. At the time I was resisting having it on the album.”HH: “The ethos of the band is really at play in that song, because it’s got such an open-door policy to different styles and ideas. I was playing ska, reggae… There’s a freedom to it.”

Moore, Sam (21 May 2021). "The Kooks announce 'Inside In/Inside Out' 15th anniversary UK tour". NME . Retrieved 2 August 2022. LP: “‘Ooh La’ was really where a maturity was coming into the songwriting. I wrote that in the studio, so it might be the last thing I’d written for the album. There was a real depth to it. I felt like I was really saying something and connecting. There’s a real melancholy fear to it. It’s eerie. On a lot of the songs, everyone was fighting to put their musicality in, but on this, Hugh waits till the end. He comes in with this insane guitar sound, but it’s basically very, very minimal.”

British Phonographic Industry . Retrieved 7 October 2016. LP: “Tony was using the desk as a kind of instrument on this one. The mixing desk became like how Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry or King Tubby would use it. He was doing all this stuff and while we were playing live. Tony never came in and was like, ‘Oh, you need to sound like this,’ or anything. He just was like, ‘Right. Let’s just put this into context. Let’s let you have your space.’ Tony and Todd Burke, who was the engineer, were geniuses.” LP: “It’s pretty much a duet between me and Hugh. It’s like a love song between us. It’s as much about the guitar as it is the vocal.”

In a later interview with NME, Pritchard thanked the Arctic Monkeys for "shielding" The Kooks from the press' scrutiny: Leonie Cooper (13 January 2006). Though media attention was dominated by the release of the Arctic Monkeys debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not on the same day, Inside In/Inside Out recorded first week sales of 19,098 and entered the UK Albums Chart at number nine. It would eventually peak at number two for two weeks. It has since been certified 5× Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales of over 1,500,000.After they had signed to Virgin Records, The Kooks were reluctant to record an album straight away, stating a desire to focus more on their live performances and songwriting. The band has said embarking on their first live tour instead of recording an album initially helped them develop their style and sound. As lead singer Luke Pritchard claimed, "We didn't sit down with a blueprint. We just naturally developed and we didn't try to shape or mould ourselves to anything." [11] As a result, they went into the studio with hundreds of songs from a variety of genres, and it took an "incredible amount of patience" from producer Tony Hoffer to shape the content into what would become the record. [12] Most of the album is written about Katie Melua, whom Pritchard dated while at the BRIT School. [13]
