Sophia (Ascension Bridge) By the time you see the real Sophia, you’ll realize that she doesn’t have a lot of time left. Image: Neowiz Games via Polygon The Lies I Tell examines the psyches and motivations of two women on an unwavering quest for justice for the past . . . and the futures they desire. This was a clever, well-written plot that moved along briskly, and the author’s research into con women lent the story authenticity. I wrinkle my nose in distaste. “I think they’ve unionized. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for.”

Lies of P requires you to make Lie or Truth choices over the course of your playthrough. These instances might seem innocuous at first, but they’ll become crucial as you progress further in the campaign, going so far as affecting which Lies of P ending that you’ll get, as well as one particular secret item. La trama está maravillosamente lograda y es muy satisfactoria por todos los hechos que ocurren. Creo que es el sueño, la ilusión, de muchas personas: el llamado “karma”, el ‘todo vuelve’, la vida es un boomerang. I attach myself to a larger circle of people, and I nod along with their conversation, all the while keeping an eye on her. Watching her mingle and circulate. Watching her watch him. I’ve spent hundreds of hours deconstructing her last few years in Los Angeles, and no matter which way I look at it, Ron Ashton stands at the center. While I don’t know her heart—not yet at least—I do know she isn’t the kind of woman to pass up an opportunity to balance the scales. This thriller is unputdownable. The characters are complex, and everything about the plot is intriguing…and continued to intrigue me the further I got. Meg believes that justice and revenge are subjective concepts and depend on the individual’s perspective. In her opinion, the line between the two often blurs because it’s the person telling the story who decides whether it’s justice or revenge. What is your take on this statement? Do you agree with Meg’s assessment of the situation? Can you think of any examples where justice and revenge have been confused?Thank you to Net Galley, Julie Clark and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for providing me with my ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own. Both Kat and Meg have a complicated relationship with the truth. How do their views on honesty differ? How do these differences affect their lives and relationships? Veronica follows my gaze and says, “David says the election is going to be close. That Ron can’t afford a single misstep in these last few months.” A story about a grifter and the reporter who followed her for 10 years was interesting to me not only for the great characters, but also for the excellent and clean writing style of the author. I found myself rooting for the grifter, Meg Williams, the teenager wronged and scarred by living in a van with her terminally ill mother. They were forced into this life when they were swindled out of their home, the only home she’d ever known, by her mother’s lover. After losing her mother while she was a senior in high school and continuing to live in her van, she became obsessed with the idea of bringing the man down. She practices her game over the years on many marks to perfect her craft. During Meg’s first experience, a very young assistant reporter stumbled upon a story about a high school principal who was taking advantage of his female students. Desperately wanting a shot at a promotion, Kat begin to research this story and found another angle, involving the college student he was living with, Meg Williams.

I am absolutely crazy about this book! After falling in love with Julie Clark after The Last Flight, I was very excited to hear about The Lies I Tell and to get an advanced copy - Christmas came early! That ending!!! 😳🤯🙌 Sooo good!! One of the best thrillers of the year in my opinion! 🥳 Clever… twisted.. short chapters… super fast read…. All a winning combination!! 🏃‍♀️ Get a copy!! Publication date was June 21st!! ❤️ I truly didn’t except to have @julieclarkauthor top The Last Flight ✈️.. but in my opinion.. she did! 🥳Julie Clark has done it again! In her latest riveting domestic thriller, Clark takes you straight into the collision course of two dynamic, complicated women―who will go to any length to fix their past and find their way to a different future. The Lies I Tell is a winner.” —Laura Dave, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Thing He Told Me Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She's a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything.

I cannot recommend this book enough. Meg is wild and wily, written with care and great depth. Every action she does is planned for steps ahead. Kat is careless, but brave, all heart. Her desire to see the best in everyone is both her greatest asset and deepest flaw. In Michigan, I was in the top one percent for the last ten years,” I tell him. “But here in Los Angeles? It’s slow going.” It’s always good to infuse a shade of humility. People appreciate knowing they’re better than you. A big thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Landmark, and Julie Clark for this advance reader copy! M

By the time Meg meets Kat, she has been spent ten years perfecting her techniques, all in preparation for and leading up to the one big con that will destroy Ashton, the man who ruined her life and “set her on a path she never imagined for herself,” according to Clark. “Meg wants revenge more than anything.” But as Meg compellingly explains, being a con artist is not just a role she never planned to play. It is a lonely existence and she has no intention of being a grifter indefinitely. Now Meg has returned to LA after a 10 year absence, looking for revenge for what happened a decade ago. She has spent the last ten years getting better and better at reinventing herself. She has gone by many names and has left more than a few men wondering why and how this woman has upended their lives. Sometimes Meg has cost them their fortunes, sometimes exposed their lies. Meg’s philosophy evolves throughout the book from punishment to restoration. Why was it important for you to show this growth? Meg Williams is a grifter with several successful long cons, Kat Roberts is a journalist with more than a story on her mind. Revenge and/or justice? Manipulation or integrity? Making amends? Survivor or a villain? Lies versus truth? Who is the cat (Kat? Maybe, maybe not)? Who is the mouse? Will Kat get the scoop of the year/decade or will Meg succeed? Two clever women with their own agendas, engaging in a battle or game of wits and who you root for changes so many times which absolutely keeps you invested in learning the unpredictable outcome. Kat Roberts was at a fundraising party when she spotted Meg Williams: the woman who changed the course of her life. Depending on what or who you need determine which Meg you’ll receive: college students, life coach, real estate agent, you name it. 10 years after Meg Williams disappeared, she popped up again and Kat was determined to reveal Meg Williams as the con artist she is. Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She’s a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she’s done, you’ve likely lost everything. A twisted, tangled, character-driven tale that is simply unputdownable. While I guessed the ending almost immediately, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment whatsoever.

She looks at me with an amused expression. “I think he’s like every other politician out there—pathologically ambitious. But he pays David well, and the fringe benefits are great.” Then she nudges my shoulder. “I’m glad you could come. I think there’ll be quite a few people here who will be good for you to meet. Possibly some new clients.”
