Description

The survivors attempt to establish a self-sufficient colony in Sussex with some success but are constantly under threat from the triffids, which mass around the fenced exterior. Several years pass, until one day a representative of Beadley's faction lands a helicopter in their yard and reports that his group has established a colony on the Isle of Wight. Durrant's talk of Dorset was a deliberate attempt to throw Bill off on his journey to find Beadley. While Bill and the others are reluctant to leave their own settlement, the group decide to see the summer out in Sussex before moving to the Isle of Wight. Sequel Hook: At the end of the novel, a transmission is detected from somewhere else in the world, and an expedition is announced to find those people. Universal Poison: The triffid venom is shown not to be this. A lecture in the first chapter tells that it is not an instant killer, but the antidote has to be injected into the carotid artery very soon.

It's often being revived in some form or another. John was a very nice guy, but unfortunately suffered from an almost fatal defect for a fiction writer: he had a private income. If he hadn't, I'm sure he'd have written much more.

This was so much more than an adventure thriller. It brought in many socio-political elements that the movie glossed over, and I was intrigued all over again. The murderous plants were still there in a blind society, but now tin gods rose up to use the disaster as an opportunity to exert their frustrated influence...and were often as much of a threat as the murderous plants.Stars Sam Troughton as David Masen, Nicola Bryant as Cerys/Marnie/Rowena, Paul Clayton as Bill Masen/General Fielding, Geff Francis as Gabriel and John Schwab as Sam Dynes.
