Soon, we began to hear from people around the world – telling us that reading was making their lives better – and reinforcing our belief that books make us happier, healthier and better connected by boosting our mental health, brain health and social connectedness.

Our Family Station in St Pancras is open from 10.00-12.00 every Friday and we're continuing to welcome schools, as well as families and adult learners to our courses and access events. All our in-person and livestreamed events are going ahead. Other services Everyone experiences the text in their own way, but the literature provides a shared language that can help us to understand ourselves – and others – better. Discover how Shared Reading has impacted group members and volunteers by exploring our Reader Stories. Schriftsteller sind Egoisten, die nur an sich selbst denken, an ihre Bücher, an ihr Werk. Deshalb sind sie so anstrengend, größenwahnsinnig, unkontrollierbar." The Readers’ Room is an enthralling novel which combines whimsical with crime and mystery. Not an easy thing to do. I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing what comes next. Set at a Publishers in France, I wanted to be a part of the Readers’ Room team. I could also see myself in the setting. How Antoine Laurain describes the city and Violaine’s workplace and home – it’s all so vivid and beautifully written. I could picture this world through the eyes of these interesting, complicated and relatable characters.wow I loved this book I am now out recommending it to all my friends, will keep to re read even though I have banned re reads That said, I have written a novel (not yet published), so now I will suffer pangs of guilt every time I offer less than five stars. In my subjective opinion, the stars suggest:

All of our upcoming public events and our St Pancras building tours are going ahead. Read our latest blog post about planned events for more information. The author of the manuscript is being elusive and they are not even sure whether they are male or female. The team decided to run with the book. However, not long after publication, the events in the book catch the attention of the French police who are investigating murders that seem to be identical to those in the Sugar Flowers. No other organisation makes use of literature in this way. Shared Reading helps us to understand our individual and collective inner lives, round the same table, at the same time. I found Violaine a little bit of an enigma, at least to start with. It was nice to get to know her and, like many people, I think she is just trying to find a place to which she belongs. The Queen’s Reading Room is the charity working to celebrate and promote the power and benefits of reading and is on a mission to help more people find and connect with books which enrich their lives. This book is a mystery. Who is this writer and who is the person murdering people? I got drawn in straightaway, wanting to know who, where and why. When the manuscript of a debut crime novel arrives at a Parisian publishing house, everyone in the readers’ room is convinced it’s something special. And the committee for France’s highest literary honour, the Prix Goncourt, agrees. Jeśli kochasz książki o książkach, o miłości do literatury, Pisarzy i książek to "Kwiaty z cukru" są dla Ciebie.

Reading the literature aloud in real-time, means that everyone is involved in a shared, live experience. Group members are encouraged by the Reader Leader to respond personally, sharing feelings, thoughts and memories provoked by the reading.A group of people, one of them a trained Reader Leader, reads a great novel, short story or poem aloud. We stop and talk about what we have read. There is no need for group members to read aloud or speak – it’s fine to just listen. The idea is to create a space where people feel at ease. I don’t know how much can be blamed on translation (perhaps in the original the actual language is transcendent) but this was just okay for me. Any one of the plot threads would be fine on its own, but taken together there was just too much of a muchness. It’s not clear if I just read a mystery, a fantasy, or not anything in particular, and what I did read for a large part doesn’t make sense or is stretched beyond credibility, e.g. a plane accident so that the protagonist can conveniently lose quite a bit of memory.
