About this deal

As artists, this phase was like embarking on our own expedition, navigating the sea of visual references and finding the key elements that would breathe life into our illustration! U.S. Marine Corps First Lieutenant Presley Neville O'Bannon runs across trouble in the desert…. An ancient cult…. A cursed? oil lamp…. The restless undead… as he and various other nations seek to resolve the Barbary Coast Question. More Horror and Adventure!

Frostgrave worked for me with an interesting world full of magic and weirdness. The little fluff bits scattered through the rules helped a lot. Local folklore; werewolves and vampires sure, for all the existing model lines, but what did Napoleon's legion really come face to face with in the howling Russian winter? Were all the slaughtered patrols in the Iberian peninsula really just the work of vengeful local resistance and guerillas? What are the Kaiser's Jagers hunting for high in the Alps? And what was Napoleon himself looking for in Egypt all those years ago? Lots of modelling potential. Sort of related to that, but less talked about it, is how we enjoy gaming. If I’m going to devote time to playing games, I want a very high likelihood that I’m going to enjoy my time. I can’t risk four hours (or usually even two) on a game when I’m not overly likely to enjoy it. So, first up, that means I need a game I am going to enjoy even if I lose. Thus, gaming becomes less about winning and losing, and more about enjoying the experience. What were the inspirations for the game’s gothic horror theme? Did you draw on any particular novels, films, or other media? There are generally no pitched battles in The Silver Bayonet–you are almost always competing with your enemy to obtain an objective, all the while being disrupted by horrors and monsters.Originally I liked the idea of the split activations in the turn but the playthrough did not seem as interesting as I first thought. This illustration is not just a portrayal of an explorer; it’s a testament to the stories that inspired us and the passion that fuelled our creative process. It fits into the larger tapestry of our work, adding a new layer of narrative and depth to the ever-expanding world of The Silver Bayonet. Hopefully this image is not just a visual, but an invitation to share in the adventures that sparked its creation!

I’ve read most of the gothic classics in my life – Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Hound of the Baskervilles – and been a fan of the classic D&D setting Ravenloft. Combine all that with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics and a heavy dose of the Sharpe films, and there you go! Because as fun as it is to kitbash (and I love kitbashing) I don’t love to see two models out of a box of sixty get used and the rest end up on a shelf. This was easier for Sludge War because in that game, although you’re using Agincourt Knights and American Civil War artillery, you’re using an entire army’s worth of it. There’s very little going to waste. We spoke to McCullough ahead of the game’s release on November 11 to find out more about the game’s contents, its gothic horror theme, and the growing surge in narrative wargaming. Crucifixes at the ready.Canadais a supplement for The Silver Bayonetthat brings players and their officers across the Atlantic and straight into the War of 1812. It offers new scenarios, solo and cooperative as well as competitive; rules for recruiting US units; and creatures and challenges drawn from Canadian history and folklore. For me, anyway, that’s much easier to achieve in a small narrative-based game. In that, I can get caught up in the story and in the experience of my soldiers. In games of The Silver Bayonet, or Frostgrave, or Stargrave, even if I lose the game, my unit will probably still get something out of it – experience points, new abilities, some loot. Thus, even when I lose, I sort of win. Or, put a different way, it’s not about winning and losing, but just seeing how my unit does during the game – getting to follow along in their adventures. You can also get a bit more dynamic poses for Perry British by using arms from British troops of the American War of Independence period. There are some decidedly Gothic adventures for you to dive into as you and another player (although you can take this to four if you like!) battle through the ruins of Castle Fier. It all culminates with a clash in the dank darkness of the castle as you battle over treasure and a threat that is watching from the shadows. Castle Fier - Starting With Solo/Cooperative Play What book of this type would be complete without a bestiary? Well not this one! Obviously on your monster list are all of the vampires, werewolves and ghouls that you might want, along side bandits, changelings, cultists, demons, ghosts, goblins and living scarecrows (not to mention trolls and pixies and more) so you have quite a selection.
