About this deal

The Mother's Promise by Sally Hepworth". Pan Macmillan Australia. 28 February 2017 . Retrieved 13 September 2018. The Soulmate was another terrific domestic suspense novel from Sally Hepworth. I am on pins and needles waiting for more from this very talented author.

Pippa is asked whether she’s heard of ADHD and she says “only in passing”. Is there really anyone who’s still clueless in this day and age about what ADHD is? I loved how the book is told through the POV of Pippa and Amanda (the dead woman). Through each POV we get to learn more about the women, their marriages, and their secrets. Juicy, juicy, juicy. I guessed every single twist...not because I am savvy but because it was so damn predictable...all I knew that it had to be both ridiculous and unbelievable...I only did not get the final cliffhanger (hint hint) and when my poor reading eyes read it I actually laughed out loud...like severely. Be still my failing heart. Gabe and Pippa, along with their two four-year-old daughters, have moved to a cliffside home in Portsea, Australia. They’re hoping for a fresh start after Gabe’s unstable work history and increasingly erratic behavior have led to yet another move. Unfortunately, the cliff on their property is a well-known spot called “The Drop” for those who want to end their lives. Fortunately, Gabe seems to have a gift for talking people away from the edge … at least he did until this most recent woman shows up. Now she’s dead, and Pippa’s left to make sense of what she saw from the window. people attempt to end their lives (and often succeed). Unless Gabe intervenes. Remarkably, he’s managed to, quite literally, talk several jumpers off the edge. Until one day when his valiant plan fails and a woman falls to her death...leaving a number of unanswered questions. As Pippa begins to unravel the truth, the perfect facade of her marriage becomes fractured and she’s forced to ask herself if Gabe is really her soulmate after all." --Westport MagazineAnd, when Pippa realizes that Gabe knew this woman- she has questions about what she thinks she saw before the woman tumbled out of sight. Imagine sitting outside on warm nights and watching the sun sink into the sea,” Gabe had said the first time we saw it. “What a dream.”

And then you gotta believe that the incriminating thumb drive drops off a cliff and falls into the ocean and it’s got — you know what? Forget the indestructible evidence, I just didn’t buy any of that plotline. As for the big reveal at the end, there really wasn't anything like that. While everything is explained and resolved, there certainly weren't any jaw-dropping or even eyebrow-raising moments. But it still feels like a satisfying conclusion. Could Pippa see things from different perspective? Even though the woman’s death is ruled as suicide, there’s something rattling Pippa that she cannot put finger on! Prude alert: So many books these days have a scene where a woman is being … there’s no nice way to put this … orally pleasured by her guy. Good for you, ladies! Just please keep that door shut … I don’t need to see that. 🫣

Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors. Many of her novels are on my favorite reads list. I will read and/or listen to anything she writes. Once I start her books, I find it difficult to put down until I'm finished. As I say in my Review of the Soulmate, I feel like this book is plotted like a thriller, but at the end, turns into more of women’s fiction. Gabe is stay at home father, taking care of their children after a tragic incident he’s getting through and Pippa is estate lawyer, practical fixer, breadwinner of the family. Sympathetic characters combined with powerful themes of guilt, love, and loyalty will lead readers to consider the power of self-delusion. Recommended for fans of Liane Moriarty and Fiona Barton." --Booklist a b c d e f Hardy, Karen (21 February 2015). "Sally Hepworth: How I gave birth to writing The Secrets of Midwives". Customer reviews

Thanks to Sally Hepworth, St Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ARC and audio copy. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* Overall: as always I give any Sally Hepworth book five stars! I’m loyal to my tradition so I’m giving my well deserved, five deliciously twisty, heartbreaking, psychological thriller stars! For more sensitive readers, this novel does deal with some mental illnesses and misdiagnosis. It’s a sub-plotline, but it’s worth mentioning. Hepworth did it justice.
