Description

Most routes require a specific set of colored cards to claim them. Locomotives can always act as a stand-in for any given color (See example 1). Volume 7: Japan + Italy (2019). Japan features the Shinkansen, comes with physical bullet train pieces, and which are collaboratively built and accessible to anyone. Italy features a new ferry mechanic and republishes its Globetrotter by adding Provinces. For each card revealed whose color matches the color of the cards played to claim the Tunnel, an additional card of the same color (or a Locomotive) must now be played from his hand. Only then can the player successfully claim the Tunnel route.

To build his second station, a player must play a set of two cards of the same color, and to build his third station a set of three cards of the same color. Locomotive cards can be played along with any set of cards when claiming a route. They are also vital to claiming Ferry routes (see Ferries). Origins Award winners". Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design. 2004. Archived from the original on 3 June 2008 . Retrieved 2 June 2008.A player who wishes to claim a Ferry route must discard a set of the same colored Train Cards in the amount of gray spaces shown PLUS wild cards depending on how many locomotive spaces are shown. When it comes to upgrades, the board itself has had one of the most stand out transformations. In previous editions, the map board has always served its purpose, but now it steals the show. In this sparkly anniversary edition, the board features fantastic new detail such as mountain ranges, landmarks, settlements, boats, and even different weather. The whole board (and there’s a lot of it now) is just gorgeous. Adding to the beautiful map are the routes. These have been given the same treatment as the cards and now really pop, adding a splash of vibrant colour across the continent. This new design is sensational and there is just so much for you to look at that playing is even more enjoyable than before.

Players should have already accounted for the points they earned as they completed various routes. To make sure no mistakes were made, you may want to recount the points for each player's routes. A route is a set of continuous colored spaces (in some instances, gray spaces) between two adjacent cities on the map. To claim a route, a player must play a set of Train cards whose color and quantity match the color and number of spaces of the chosen route. Tunnels are special routes that are easily identified by the special tunnel marks and outlines surrounding each of their spaces. Locomotives are Multi-colored and act as a wild card that can be part of any set of cards when claiming a route. Be aware of routes that are partially parallel to each other but are linked to different cities. These are not double-routes.

The board and trains might be more colourful, but the wild rainbow cards have had their vibrancy muted. A continuous path may include loops, and pass through the same city several times, but a given plastic train may never be used twice in the same continuous path. Create the longest continuous route on the map and obtain the European Express Bonus card worth 10 points at the end of the game. Similar to the original's 10th-anniversary edition, a larger map of Europe was released in 2021. This edition includes detailed train sets in metal tin boxes and train cards designed for the event. The green train set was removed and replaced by pink ones. It also features the destination cards from the original game, Europe 1912, Orient Express, and a promo card, bringing the count to 108. These tins really make this feel like a luxury product, no unnecessary plastic bags or loose components, everything is where it’s supposed to be. This attention to detail is delightful and really elevates the standard even higher. The stations have also been given a new lease of life. Just like the trains they are now bigger and feel much sturdier and all-round nicer to hold and use. As before they sit nicely over the trains themselves and have coloured roofs so that they stand out proud.

Place the European Express Bonus and the Summary card, face up, next to the board, as a reminder to the players.Claiming the Ferry Route from Smyrna to Palermo requires four Train cards of any one color and two Locomotives. Ferries: Ferries are shown on the map as gray routes that pass through a body of water. These Ferry routes will also show a certain amount of locomotive symbols that will differ them from regular gray routes found on the map. Since the game's release in 2004, Days of Wonder has released additional stand-alone board games, expansion maps - which require a base game to play, a card game, and multiple electronic game versions.

If any of these drawn cards match the color of the Tunnel route they are trying to claim, they must discard that many more cards to claim the route. In the rare event there are not enough cards available in the draw and discard piles to reveal 3 cards and determine the effect of the tunnel on a player, then only those cards that are available are revealed. If, as a result of players hoarding cards, there are none to be revealed, a tunnel can be claimed without risking additional cards.
