About this deal

The toilet brush was comfortable to hold, but because there was no contour to the handle, the grip felt a bit slippery. The brush itself fits nicely in the slot in the base, but there is a bit of a learning curve with remembering to press the button at the tip of the handle to remove it. We liked how easily it slipped into the container, which is weighted at the bottom to prevent tipping. The Clorox Toilet Wand Disposable Toilet Cleaning Kit wowed us with its performance and ease of use. We especially love that there was no cleanup—we simply discarded the scrub head when we finished cleaning. The scrub head left some small smear marks on the porcelain, but otherwise, we saw no scratches. The scrub head proved to be quite sturdy—it didn’t detach from the handle during use and it didn’t disintegrate as we thought it might. The used head comes off very easily—just press the button to release the sponge head into the trash.

Shape of the toilet-brush head: Depending on which areas of your toilet get the dirtiest, you’ll want a toilet-brush head that’s shaped to reach under the toilet rim. Look for a design that has a curved head or long bristles, which allow a brush to fit easily into tough-to-reach places. We were impressed at how well the plastic bristles cleaned off all the mask. The bristles were stiff, but they didn’t do any damage to the toilet. The handle was straight and can maneuver well within the toilet, but without a contoured design, it’s difficult to get the brush head into tighter spots. We did appreciate how easy it was to clean off the brush with just a bit of water. Superio Toilet Brush-This brush features a unique lip brush attachment that aids in targeting hard-to-reach dirt, stains and buildup under the rim. It comes with stiff bristles and a comfortable easy-to-grip long rubber handle. Simplehuman and Superio toilet bowl cleaning brushes We tested 16 toilet brushes at our lab in Des Moines, Iowa. We started by placing the brush in their included storage containers (where applicable) and bumped into them several times, noting if they tipped over or were sturdy enough to stay upright.

SimpleHuman: Best Overall

For performance, we noted if there were any design features to clean specific parts of the toilet, such as curvature, under-the-rim bristles, or interchangeable brush heads. We then spread a thin layer of clay mask around the toilet bowl and under the rim. For electric models, we started a timer before cleaning to see how long the battery would last. We wet the toilet brush and scrubbed the toilet bowl without any added cleaning solution to see how well the brush removed the clay mask. Bristle type: Most toilet-brush bristles are made of nylon, and we prefer this stiff plastic material for scrubbing. Silicone brushes are less common and a bit more expensive; they’re flexible and easier to clean, but they don’t scrub as well. The way bristles are set in the brush can also affect how long the brush takes to dry, so watch out for dense, criss-crossing bristles that trap moisture and grime. If you like to invest in decor and design throughout your home, there's no reason why you should skimp on an eyesore of a toilet brush. This toilet brush and holder set from Brabantia's MindSet line brings a hint of style to a category that's known for function over form. The set is modern and minimalist, with a powder coating that's available in a dark mineral gray and a neutral white. Another not-so-common way to easily clean underneath your bowl rim like a boss is to use a drill brush. Drill Scrubber

The handle is oval-shaped for an ergonomic grip, though we found that it was sometimes better to grip closer to the brush head, which didn’t reduce the comfort of holding the handle. The simple design made cleaning easy, both with gentle and more forceful pressure. The brush head held up well, too—it did flatten a bit with use, but this didn’t affect its ability to clean, and both the white and blue bristles retained their original shape. The bristles of the toilet brush should be durable, stiff enough to effectively scrub the toilet bowl, and resistant to wear and tear,” says Angela Lee from Hellamaid. “Common bristle materials include nylon, silicone, or a combination of both.” We found it comfortable to grip the long handle during cleaning. Even when applying pressure, the bristles didn’t scratch the toilet bowl. A few swishes of clean water were all it took to clean off the brush, though it will likely need a deeper clean to get into those dense bristles. Take some of the manual work out of toilet cleaning with an electric brush. The Scrubtastic is cordless, rechargeable, scrubs at 300 RPM, and has over 30 minutes of battery life to help clean your toilets (or any other surface that could use a deep cleaning). This is one of the best rated automatic toilet bowl cleaner for stubborn hardwater stains and heavy iron deposits. Iron out cleaner Iron out We liked that the Tilswall Electric Spin Scrubber came with several scrub head options, but we couldn’t find a way to change them out without actually touching the brush. Though it cleaned up the clay mask, we found that two hands were needed to grip this long brush when it was held at certain angles. We would have also preferred there to be an included storage container. Simplehuman Toilet Brush with Caddy The Clorox Toilet Wand Disposable Toilet Cleaning Kit contains everything you need to scrub and sanitize your toilet in one box. The kit comes with a handle, disposable sponge heads prefilled with bathroom cleanser, and a storage container to hold it all. All you have to do is attach one to the handle and start scrubbing. The Oxo Good Grips Toilet Brush with Rim Cleaner impressed us with its design during testing. The brush’s design made it super easy to clean under the toilet rim. The main part of the brush head is dome-shaped and easy to reach around the toilet, but the selling point is the separate group of blue bristles that angle upward to fit right under the rim. You should plan to replace your toilet brush every six months to keep germs from accumulating. If you do not replace your toilet brush, you run the risk of spreading germs, rather than cleaning, every time you use it. Some toilet brushes are meant to be disposable or single-use. Look for ones that are made using eco-friendly materials to reduce your overall waste. Silicone toilet brushes can sometimes last longer, as can those with replaceable brush heads. Just make sure that you are thoroughly cleaning the handle each time you replace the brush head.
