Description

It all depends on what you expect to do with a lathe. This is a tool designed to be safe as a child's first serious workshop tool. It will not do any heavy work but it will do light jobs with a good level of controlability, and this may be adequate for your needs. It will not have a long life. I have no connection with any of the above retailers except as a satisfied customer. The first power supply went "pop" when turned on, but they supplied a replacement foc and that works fine - I've been turning up split axles this morning.

The sanding disc provides the perfect finish to your parts after cutting and shaping. The sander can also be detached for hand held use. Disc size: 50mm Jigsaw Considering the above mentioned constructional features, the Unimat 09-4x4/4S series represent a further step towards perfecting the maintenance of S&Cs. Apart from the quality of work, which can be reached by the Unimat 09, this is also shown by the increase of working performance. Compared with standard machines of previous designs the time needed for tamping an S&C with the Unimat 09 is up to 40% shorter, which means a great reduction of possession time and therefore a better utilisation of available working windows. If I may offer another bit of advice, get to know your lathes characteristics before trying any milling. You will find micro mills and lathes are more flexible than their larger brethren (physically rather than functionally) which is shown up by the lateral forces exerted by milling operations. The Unimat was a series of combination machines sold for light hobbyist engineering, such as model engineering. They were distinctive as the same major components could be re-arranged into either a lathe or milling machine.Having established the lathe in production, Maier set about both improving production methods (which necessitated changes to the machine's construction), and ironing out some of the design deficiencies that were becoming apparent as owners began to explore the limits of its potential. The set includes comprehensive instructions plus DVD. The Unimat classic is just the start of your own home workshop. There are many optional accessories to expand the system further to customise your requirements. The product also comes with a 5 year warranty (excluding parts subject to normal wear and tear) Made in Austria The UNIMAT 1 CLASSIC opens new dimensions in applications and precision. In addition to the machines found in the BASIC unit, the UNIMAT 1 CLASSIC will amaze you with functions seen only in larger, more expensive lathes and mills Made by Maier & Company in Austria and introduced in late 1953, the 1.42" centre height by 5" (later 6.75") between centres Emco "Unimat" was the first of the firm's incredibly popular range of small, multi-purpose machine tools. Although tiny, it was perfectly capable of decent work, available with a wide range of accessories and was light enough to be lifted on and off the workbench with one (strong) hand. The original model stayed in production until 1977, with a run of around 300,000 examples, at which point it was replaced by the Unimat 3, an entirely conventional-looking lathe and one not nearly as adaptable to so many different uses.

The second countershaft can also be used as an additional transmission between the motor and gearbox for reducing or increasing torque and speed. A powerful circular saw can be used when combining a blade with the increased torque provided with a second countershaft. With UNIMAT 1 "anyone can build a miniature size scale of the entire world". Dollhouses with perfectly-scaled furniture, historic ship models with turned railings, or gear wheels and a new axle for the radio-controlled car. Because of its modular construction system, UNIMAT 1 can be assembled into six or more different machine tools, each no larger than a simple sheet of paper, within seconds. The machines have the same features as big industrial machines, the only differences are their size and the 12V drive. With 12,000 rpm, UNIMAT 1 is capable of forming metal, wood and plastics into any shape. It's hard to believe that Unimat DB/SLs went out of production, given how excellent they are. I expect that the decrease in hobby machining and the necessary expense of manufacturing high-tolerance machine tools caused them to be unprofitable for Maier to build anymore.

Using 3 precision slides, 2 of which can rotate through 360 degrees, the bench drill is capable of precise drilling in every conceivable angle. The drill unit can also be removed for hand held use. Due to the wide range of available accessories, an endless array of other machine tools can be constructed. Within reason, any machine you can think of may be possible.Anyway, the motor burned out 2 months ago and I've been getting more and more dejected at the price of refurbished ones, so to find this topic here andt to find that I can resurrect my lathe is brilliant news.

Although the DB200/SL1000 remains a very popular machine on the second-hand market Emco unfortunately no longer supply any parts, accessories, written material or service help. UNIMAT 1 is THE CoolTool ® , unique, versatile, easy-to-use, and technically developed for unlimited possibilities for building-up. The product also comes with a five year warranty. Motors used on this model included the Dutch-made painted type (the large "round" version), an early example of the very much stronger and reliable U90 (but with more sculptured end caps as shown in the large picture in the 1959 brochure) and the "regular" U90 in a colour to match the lathe. However, it is known that silver-blue finished U90 motors were subsequently sold by American Edelstaal, and Canadian Edelstaal, as replacements for use on later green SL1000s and DB200s and so confusion on this point is a strong possibility. Mine came from a pawn(?) shop in California in '69. No box, no manual, no tooling. I had to figure out everything for myself. In those days, there wasn't much understanding of the difference between M6X1 fasteners and 1/4-20 &-28 we had on the ship. Not even the ship's machinist had any ideas in those days. But I learned a little here and some more there and eventually had a usable machine. Assembled with the included HSS milling cutter, the drill press changes into a vertical mill. In addition, you can use virtually every commercial milling cutter, including end milling cutters and T-slot cutters up to a fixing diameter of 6mm.American machines all appear to have been delivered in a rather splendid fitted wooden box - while European customers, apart from those sold during the mid to late 1950s, had to be content with finest-quality cardboard. If you see a box for sale be aware that those for the very first models - the Mk. 1a at just over 12-inches long - were smaller than those for later machines. Most of the first boxes had nicely bevelled vertical corners, until at some point during SL1000 production , this was stopped, probably as an economy measure. Accessory boxes of the time were very distinctive with a turquoise (or teal) blue-and-white label with "Emco" spelled out in a diagonal line, a 'circle M' logo and "Made in Austria" printed underneath in small letters. Getting parts, as opposed to tools, for Unimat lathes can be challenging. The first thing that you will almost certainly need will be replacement drive belts. Below is a quote from a David (LO) Smith entry on the Gauge 0 Guild Forum on the subject.
