About this deal

Please let us know your top vampire book recommendations in the comments too. We know this ‘best vampire books’ reading list is still pretty darn subjective. I was refusing to read Twilight and then I ended up with the flu, so I read all 4 books in 4 days. Insane. It was more curiosity out of anything else. I was so intrigued by the nameless couple’s story that I hated the idea of forgetting it; it was the kind of dream that makes you want to call your friend and bore her with a detailed description. (Also, the vampire was just so darned good-looking, that I didn’t want to lose the mental image.) To give you a sense of how early my problems started, the first fight I ever had in school was over a Planet of The Apes action figure which I mistakenly brought to school only to have someone try to steal it. That was second grade.”

Centuries ago, somehow the vampire race got trapped in our world and must live with humans. With the help of a company called HemoGlobe, vampires buy blood without having to hunt for it. Thus giving them more time to live their lives peaceably with humans, and helping them keep their secret. Who doesn’t love a good vampire book? Since TUL featured our favorite witches, it was time to bow down to a new monster in town: the vamp. Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh (2009) USA Today bestselling author Nalini Singh introduces a world of beauty and bloodlust, where angels hold sway over vampires… Welcome to VAMPS, an elite academy in the Swiss Alps for the children of the wealthiest and most powerful vampire families. Collins has also written a number of highly acclaimed Southern Gothic short stories and novellas, most of which are set in Seven Devils, Arkansas, a highly fictionalized version of her hometown.

It is 1888 and Queen Victoria has remarried, taking as her new consort Vlad Tepes, the Wallachian Prince infamously known as Count Dracula. Peppered with familiar characters from Victorian history and fiction, the novel follows vampire Geneviève Dieudonné and Charles Beauregard of the Diogenes Club as they strive to solve the mystery of the Ripper murders. Because I want to create role models for teenage (and even younger) girls who read my books. If you look at the books, just about every heroine has a future career or goal in mind.” Some of my characters don’t start out as strong girls. They start out as shy, introverted or gentle girls. Then the story is about how they become stronger, through their terrifying experiences and their concern for other people.” The story is about teen-aged vampires that attend a special vampire schools at night. Lilith is one of the main characters and an Old Blood. She meets, and instantly hates, Cally who is a New Blood, or so she thinks. Most believe her to be a Half Blood, half New and half Old, but she is actually a hybrid, half human and half vampire. The Noble Dead saga — Fantasy vampire story with elves and other creatures but focuses on a Dhampir. Fast paced but also has incredible character development and an epic story. Has some romance but it’s not the focus of the story. I am surprised at how few people know this series because it’s that good. The world the author Nicole has created shows a vampire world that runs parallel to ours – they may occasionally interfere in global affairs if humans come close to discovering their secret but, in the main, they keep themselves to themselves where they can. A large reason the VAMPS academy exists is to mould elite vampires in a way that will allow them to integrate seamlessly with us when needed. It’s diverse, the school attracts the wealthiest vampiresfromall over the world, so not all of them are ghostly pale with alabaster skin. They also seem to operate with a notion that if you’re going to live forever and surrounded by incredibly beautiful vampires in peak physical condition why limit yourself to one gender? (wink, wink), (but important to note that Nicole does not use this to propel the book into erotica). Giving us a central character who is also only just being introduced to this world is great as it means he tends to have the same “what?”“are you for real?” response as we do which I think keeps it light and allows for natural world building. He, rightly, questions everything and feels suitably terrified by everything he’s confronted with. The events all feel very choppy - no smooth transitions. I swear, one chapter it was almost Christmas, and the next it was March and school was ending. For a vampire school, I don't feel like there was enough time spent focused on the learning, I never got a sense that anyone was learning and progressing, I was just expected to believe they were. The school is supposed to be condensed into just the winter months, which seemed really weird to me and did not really seem to make sense for how things were written. If these young vampires need to learn control among various other things, why are they only in school a handful of months out of the year? What are they supposed to be doing the rest of the year? This brand-new edition of the bestselling novel contains unique bonus material, including a new afterword from Kim Newman, annotations, articles and alternate endings to the original novel.

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer (2005) Fall in love with the addictive, suspenseful love story between a teenage girl and a vampire with the book that sparked a “literary phenomenon” and redefined romance for a generation (New York Times). Cally is upset when she learns that she must leave her New Blood school and attend the Old Blood Bathory Academy. After narrowly escaping vampire hunters, she must now deal with the wrath of Lilith at school. Furthermore, one vampire hunter seems particularly interested in her, and she thinks she might be developing feelings for him too. This goes without saying, but Twilight is probably the most well-known vampire book series, good or bad. Well, if you love Jacob, it’s also a fun YA werewolf book too. After Cally was introduced, the book started to get more interesting to me and I was invested (mostly in her side of the story, but Lilith's side became more interesting too). I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately…

So, long story short, The Vampire Hunters Academy started out as a Thank You to Ms. Banks. It was a way for me to keep her memory alive. But the characters I created are not based off of her. The storyline is a intricately woven web of everything that I know about vampires and their origins, mixed with everything I’ve learned about religion, spirituality and mythology.” Personally, I find it a bit disappointing that the storyline contains the standard vampire clichés such like sleeping in a coffin. I didn't think the amount of sex scenes contributed to the story. Nancy A. Collins (born 10 September 1959) is a United States horror fiction writer best known for her series of vampire novels featuring her character Sonja Blue. Collins has also written for comic books, including the Swamp Thing series, Jason Vs. Leatherface, Predator: Hell Come A Walkin and her own one-shot Dhampire: Stillborn. Anno Dracula by Kim Newman (1992) Acclaimed novelist Kim Newman explores the darkest depths of a reinvented Victorian London in a rich and panoramic tale, combining horror, politics, mystery and romance to create a unique and compelling alternate history. So much to say, and dislike about this book. Maybe because I am no longer 16, but I cringed at how much the author chose to characterise Lilith. the name calling really made me question if these reactions are normal or simply the result of a pubescent teen. I hope this book doesn’t propagate the casualness of using the terms ‘slut’ ‘bitch’ and whore’. An innocent school trip creates a rollercoaster of experiences when Dillen is suddenly identified as a murder suspect. I might read the second one just for more about Cally and Peter, but I could care less about Lilith and her empty-headed schemes of revenage. One of the most talked-about vampire books of 2020, don’t miss The Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. Buffy: The Next Generation series by Kendare Blake (2022) Return to Sunnydale in a brand-new trilogy set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
