About this deal

Although it seems like an odd use of a blender, this beast of a machine has the power to knead dough. Our dough came together in record time and emerged from the appliance, slightly warm and ready to rise. This excelled in our tests, blending an aerated smoothie with a very smooth texture. When it came to making peanut butter, we found that the wide and large container is best suited for larger batches. If you know you'll be frequently blending up small quantities, there is a compatible 32-ounce container sold separately that will be best suited for those recipes.

Any kind of nutmilk is a nothing affair. You won't be stressing the motor even a little if you make almond milk at home. Same with nut butter although it's not terribly easy to get nut butter out of the bottom. Instead of the blender you will be better off swapping to the food processor attachment. The power is more than enough though. MediaMath sets this cookie to avoid the same ads from being shown repeatedly and for relevant advertising. Vitamix recently launched a food processor attachment, which resembles a traditional 12-cup food processor bowl with a multiuse blade and two reversible shredding/slicing discs. The attachment only works with the more tech-savvy Ascent and Venturist blenders, though. At the top of the container is a clear top with a leak-proof seal. It can be tough to get on but it's a solid seal and it lets you see progress. In the center is a removable, vented lid plug. Take it out for venting hot soup, or add ingredients while blending. In a clever design detail, it also doubles as a 2-ounce measuring cup. Soup test: Soup was blended and heated using blade friction; the mixture was smooth, but the temperature was just below 70ºC.

About Vitamix

Our Lab team has spent collective decades working in professional kitchens, developing recipes, and testing kitchen gear. The pulse button came in handy for potato pancakes. First, we blended the egg, flour, onion, and some potato until it was almost smooth. Then, we added the rest of the potato and pulsed to get the texture of shredded potatoes without the work. Though we didn't attempt hot soup, we found that this model outperformed all the others when it came to blending peanuts into peanut butter—the taller, skinnier jar was ideal for making nut butter. There was such a huge difference in texture compared to what we made with other models. It wasn't crumbly or like peanut dust—it was actually smooth. The mess afterward was exceptionally easy to clean with soap and water, with most of the leftover nut butter concentrated on the blades. The noise level was about average. The motor base has wireless connectivity, so it can read the size of the container that is in use and adjust the program settings and blending times appropriately. It comes with a 64-ounce container, but other compatible containers are available separately. An integrated timer turns the blender off when time runs out, so you can walk away and know that you’ve blended for exactly the right time. The intuitive controls are a touchscreen for a sleek appearance and easy cleaning. Like other Vitamix blenders, this one has variable speed controls as well as a pulse button for ultimate control of everything you blend. Blend an individual smoothie right inside the (600ml) Blending Cup and take it to go. Use the (225ml) Blending Bowl to make smaller servings of your favorite blends, like salad dressings, dips and baby food. Clean-up is easy because the cup, bowl, lids, and blade base are all dishwasher safe.

This Vitamix 5200 comes with a tall, slim, 64-ounce container that’s perfect for smoothies, purees, and hot soups. It has a variable-speed dial that lets you change the speed as you blend, and a pulse button for chunky blending and precise textures. The on/off toggle rounds out the controls. Although it seems like an odd use of a blender, this beast of a machine has the power to knead dough.

Noise: As we ran our tests on each blender, we noted the maximum decibel level it registered. None of the machines were silent, but noise levels ranged from 70 decibels—similar to a vacuum cleaner—to over 90—similar to a lawnmower. It’s hard not to feel that the Ascent A2300i somewhat squanders its potential as a Smart System machine by only coming with a jug. By itself, this makes as much fruit smoothie as you like, meaning the temptation to invest in its single-serve blending cups is rather low. However, if a single cup were included in the box and proved useful, this could easily be the catalyst to invest in the additional cups and bowls to expand the Ascent’s capabilities. At this point make sure you've got the lid secured because you are going to make a mess otherwise. There's not much ability to start slowly even if you've got the power turned down. There's a lot of power and it jumps to life rather suddenly. The lower speeds are more than enough power for crushing ice and aren't too loud. Turn the dial towards full power though and get ready for a lot to happen. Not only is there lots of noise but the air expelled from the side is pretty dramatic. There's no second guessing that this is a powerful system when you watch it spinning at full power. Value: When all the other testing was finished, we revealed the retail prices of the tested blenders. The Vitamix brand is fairly expensive in general, so we compared the models to each other and to the average Vitamix price as well as to the average prices for all the blenders we've tested. Open the box and there are four pieces. The most important part is the motor base. In most blenders this is just the motor but for the Vitamix Ascent think of it like a platform. With an Ascent series motor base. You have the ability to pair with any Self-Detect Containers. While most blenders leave you with only one container option Vitamix has a range of compatible container sizes. Perhaps even more interesting is the option to add a food processor.

If all you do is make smoothies, and maybe an occasional margarita. There's still nothing quite like a Vitamix. The ice crushing power is pretty incredible. Still, that's probably not all you want to do with it so let's talk about some of the other features. We found that despite its simplicity, this is still a great blender worthy of the Vitamix name. The 32-ounce container has a curvier look than Vitamix's classic boxy design, and its rubber lid does come with an opening for adding and tamping down ingredients. We found that a frozen margarita, banana smoothie, and aioli came together perfectly, with the aioli staying creamy for a few days. This machine has above-average performance, easy cleanup, and simple operation. That said, this was the loudest of the blenders we tested. Celebrate 100 years of innovation with this Special Edition. The 100th Anniversary Collection includes everything you need to enjoy healthy meals at home or on the go.
