I did find Lisa's semi comprehensive information about the lunar cycle useful - and if you wanted to read further about working with the moon I would recommend Yasmin Boland's 'Moonology'

up a notch or ten. In Lisa's earlier books she definitely had an embodied, kind of magical/ holistic take on things, but this is the first book where she's properly come out of the broom closet I host workshops, curated experiences andimmersions worldwide and offer 1-to-1 counsel + support in person andonline via Zoom/Skype. I have read many books on witchcraft, women's spirituality, etc. but think this is a great intro for women who may not be as familiar. It can be a great jumping off point for women who might want to find other books to read more about witchcraft, the divine feminine, herbalism, intuition, crystals, the tarot, etc. I also love that she outlines some of the more common categories of witches, encourages the reader to connect with her cultural roots, and loosens the reigns a little bit from 'this is how it has to be done' to 'this is how i do it, but choose your own way.' And importantly, she touches on how women's menstrual cycles connect to the cycles of the moon, which ALL women should know about. There is so much more, but this review is already getting lengthy. To summarize, I HIGHLY recommend this book. Thanks so much, Lisa, for having the courage to put this out there.

Work through + grow through trauma, blame + shame, public humiliation, misrepresentation, grief, crisis + spiritual emergence/emergency

Witch is what we all remember when we close our eyes, when we’re unafraid to own our power, when no one and nothing outside of us is as convincing as the force of light we can only find within. Witch is a reclamation, a reparation and mostly a revelation that love cannot be burned or buried. The love that witches have always been can only ever rise, and expand. Witch reveals a lineage of love we inherit when we dare to fully embody and become unapologetic about how much we know.’ All women are witches, and when they connect to source, trust their intuition, and use their magic, they can make medicine to heal themselves and the world. This book is a re-telling of Herstory, an overview of the different schools of witchcraft and the core principles and practices within them. This book is a re-telling of Herstory, an overview of the different schools of witchcraft and the core principles and practices within them. Discover ancient wisdom made relevant for modern witches: Overall this structure works, but it does feel like the chapter titles came first and then some of the content was shoe-horned in afterwards. She's wise, a healer, someone who is aligned with the cycles of mumma nature and the phases of the moon. Yet for so long, the word 'witch' has had negative connotations being used as an insult, a slur and to perpetuate fear. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why in past centuries the word witch has led women to be tortured, drowned and burned at the stake, and why the witch is now waking once again in women across the world today.

In recent years there has been an upsurge in interest in the connection between the moon phases and the menstrual cycle. I share about this rhythmic intelligence and the reflection of Mumma nature’s cycles on our own cyclic nature in my books, but a question I get asked a lot in response to this is: “how can I sync my cycle to the moon?” By which the person usually means: “how can I make it so that I ovulate with the full moon and bleed with the dark moon?” Yep, this is a THING. Getting through this book was practically unbearable. I should have listened to my gut when it started churning at the obnoxious introduction to the book, which was dripping the disgusting, outdated, vagina-centric language characteristic of so many feminist books of the 90s and early 2000s.A witch is a woman in her power. She’s wise, a healer, someone who is aligned with the cycles of Mother Nature and the phases of the Moon. Yet for so long, the word ‘witch’ has had negative connotations – being used as an insult, a slur and to perpetuate fear. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why in past centuries the word ‘witch’ has led women to be tortured, drowned and burned at the stake, and why the witch is now waking once again in women across the world today. The second half of the book goes through the five main goddess archetypes, as Lisa sees them, alongside a kind of witchy 101 of information about practices, spells and correspondences. The final the practices shared here. I enjoyed it, and I've been walking a witchy path for almost three decades now. You definitely DO NOT need a womb to be a witch or to be a woman, I celebrate the womb as a place of power, medicine + magic because doctors threatened to ‘whip mine out’ + I've worked really bloody hard to heal her + love her + to recognise the power I hold there + I want to support those who have had similar experiences to do the same. I only ever speak, teach + share from personal experience + wouldn't DARE try to be a spokesperson for EVERYONE, but of COURSE you can be powerful, be a witch AND be a woman without a womb - abso-bloody-lutely.
