About this deal

So, whilst there are some minor differences in performance between Two Thin Coats paints and Citadel paints, that colour matching? Yeah, more or less spot on. I don’t usually paint true metals as I find them irritating and the metallic particles get everywhere like a glitter bomb. I get a lot of requests for how to paint them though, so I thought I’d record this Iron Warrior for my Patreon. mix of Vallejo Game Color Dead Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh but only on the edge of the yellow blobs Pants/Hats/Cuffs: From the Steel Legion Drab basecoat, I highlighted the raised edges with Tallarn Sand and washed these with Agrax Earthshade.

As reviewers, it’s more or less impossible for us to recommend one paint range over another. Paints, like so many over aspects of the hobby, are viciously personal. Everyone paints differently, and the subtle differences between each paint range will only become more obvious the more experienced you get as a painter. Finally, the Necropolis Stalker is an interesting model because while huge, it actually doesn’t have a lot of detail, and the swords draw the eye quite a bit at the same level as the face it has. For that reason I wanted to make the guards stand out a bit, and applied some Seraphim Sepia to them to give the bone on the handles a more aged look, as if they were crafted from something different than the Bonereapers themselves. Otherwise, he follows the same scheme as the others, layering various levels of the colors into one another over successive coats. This will be called something different in other places. Go to your hardware store and show them a few photos from this article and you’ll be fine. As far as the global hobby community is concerned, Duncan is a man with a nigh-untouchable legacy, whose efforts, whose creativity, and whose genius has inspired thousands. To say high standard are, therefore, expected would likely be an understatement. So, how do Duncan’s Two Thin Coats Paints (which were created in partnership with trans Atlantis Games and Duncan’s Painting Academy heavy Roger Yates) measure up? Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats Paints Review – Design Caliban Green: Caliban Green is a dark, olive-toned brown that is ideal for creating a natural, earthy look on your miniatures. When used in conjunction with Zandri Dust, it creates a convincing, weathered effect that is reminiscent of old, rusted metal. The arcade version of Trog. Bally/Midway, 1990. Yes, this is more orange than the dude I painted – I just wanted an excuse to post it. Please excuse the occasional switching of which model is shown, I was painting all 10 at once, and I got a bit confused with which Plaguebearer I was supposed to be photographing.) Astra Militarum Kill Team Tactics covers what you need to know about playing Imperial Guard on the smaller battlefields of Kill Team. Author’s Note: I painted my Vostroyans 12 years ago and some things have changed. More spray paint colors are available but older Citadel Colors like Rotting Flesh paint are no more. You can substitute with Putrid Green from Coat D’Arms or a slightly greener paint in the form of Ogryn Camo. White Armor: Like the rank and file Valhallans, I painted these whole models in Steel Legion Drab first. The armor was based with Ulthuan Grey (my secret weapon, holy shit this color is so useful) and down in two coats. I washed the recesses with Agrax Earthshade, then highlighted up with Corax White.

Drybrush the dirt with Steel Legion Drab followed by a lighter drybrush of Gorthor Brown (optional: do a final light drybrush of Ushabti Bone) Leather and wood got a basecoat of Baneblade Brown, Wyldwood Contrast, and either a highlight or drybrush of Baneblade again. Bone, spikes, and nails were basecoated Zandri Dust, glazed with Skeleton Horde Contrast, then drybrushed or highlighted with Ushabti Bone. The loincloth is Bad Moon Yellow, which takes a couple of thin coats to get solid coverage. We would strongly recommend you give Two Thin Coats paints a go – grab one of the colour triads and try switching it with your usual recipe for a particular colour. See what you think.Start Competing: Astra Militarumcovers playing Guard in Warhammer 40k 8th edition. It hasn’t been updated yet with the new content from Psychic Awakening V: The Greater Good, but you can find our review of that content here until we update the larger guide. Tongue: Screamer Pink basecoat, Druchii Violet wash, Bugmans Glow highlight, Fulgrim Pink spot highlight.

Step 3: Stipple Citadel Ushabti Bone over Zandri Dust bands. I did slightly less of these than in the previous Zandri Dust layer. Commonly known as the Imperial Guard, the Astra Militarum are the Imperium’s standing army of regular old humans. Making up the vast majority of the Imperium’s military forces, Guard soldiers are the first line of defense against the threats to the Imperium. Every world in the Imperium has its own force of guard, and soldiers in the Guard are drawn from worlds across the galaxy and stationed in locations of strategic or cultural importance. On the ground, the Astra Militarum’s infantry forces are supported by legions of heavy tanks and artillery and in the air, they’re supported by the Imperial Navy. While the Adeptus Astartes are the Emperor’s Angels of Death, making surgical strikes and taking out key targets, the Guard are the Emperor’s Hammer, acting as the full armored might of the Imperium. Astra Militarum, also known as Imperial Guard, are a human-based army known for their vast numbers and reliance on tanks and artillery. Zandri Dust is a great base color for their uniforms and tanks, allowing for the creation of a realistic desert camo pattern that blends in with the environment. In our How to Paint Everything series, we take a look at different armies of the Warhammer universe, examine their history and heraldry, and look at several different methods for painting them. With Halloween fast approaching, we’re looking at how to paint the spookiest monsters around. In today’s HTPE, we’re looking at how to paint fearsome monsters that live inside each of us – Skeletons. Whilst they bear similarities to other ranges – such as we’ve seen above in the comparison to Citadel – Two Thin Coats paints are still very different. They will appeal to both beginners and more experienced painters due to their slightly thinner mixes that do not sacrifice pigmentation strength. They require a little bit more work due to their slightly thinner recipe, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Accent Paints: Abbadon White, Pallid Wych Flesh (as a white), Nuln Oil, Seraphim Sepia, and various contrasts for small accents. Most of surface painted with Basalt Grey. 1:1 mix of Basalt and Stonewall Grey on upper half. Top edge Stonewall Grey. Skulls The first thing after assembly was to reduce the largest seams, especially on the chest. A dot of superglue was put down on a surface then a paperclip was used to transfer the glue to the seam. Liquid superglue will tend to seep into the seam and mostly fill it in. I did this anywhere I could easily see the gaps where two pieces came together. Some gaps may need a couple layers and could benefit from being sanded when the glue dries. The paint will also fill in the gaps a bit more.

Battletome: Ossiarch Bonereapers covers skeletons in Age of Sigmar, though they’ve gotten SIGNIFICNATLY BUFFER than skeletons normally are, adding tons of mass. Speaking of which… Good job. We are already succeeding. This is going to be great, I can tell. STEP TWO: APPLY SPAK WITH RIGHTEOUS FORCEHighlight the eyes and wrist screens with Warpstone Glow (Optional: Add a final highlight of Moot Green). Stardom” and “miniature painting” aren’t two phrases you’d expect to see within touching distance of each other, and yet there is perhaps one person who can lay claim to such status. And that person is Duncan Rhodes. Runelord Brass for a rich, metallic copper that adds a pop of color and texture to the overall look.
