Between the arms was 1.2w slower at 40kph and 0.5w at 30kph, but the fastest location was behind the saddle at 0.7w (40kph) and 0.3w (30kph) - 20sec over an IM bike leg. Profile Designs makes another appearance on our list, but this time it is for those racers who need more hydration than most. Cycle Centre Congleton Limited 2021. It has been hard work finding an aero water bottle. My first one kept falling out, which makes it no good. I’ve recently bought an X-Lab Aero TT bottle, which hopefully will stay put, and save the odd couple of watts. Specialized S-Works Aero Water Bottle With the overwhelming number of triathlon hydration systems designed to provide around 20 to 24 oz, the fact that the FC System offers a 35 oz model is a significant upgrade. You may not think of SOTO as a bottle manucaturer, but as the famous saying goes, "they''re big in Japan". SOTO is one of the biggest outdoor brands in Japan and they manufacture all sorts of products there, not just the amazing stoves that we've had in the UK for the past few years now. So, as more of their products come across from asia we get to experience their exceptional design skills in the other areas in which they are succesful. Rather than using aluminum alloy or carbon fiber like normal, XLAB opts for a Xenon nylon cage that is incredibly lightweight but also less durable.

Tell us how tall you are, we'll help you find the right size.

First, the RML is not that secure and is liable to send your bottles flying when you ride over rough terrain. A 500ml round bottle is very common especially in triathlon events where you may get a bottle handup from an aid station. A smaller bottle like this can also be placed in multiple locations around the bike. In this test we found that the worst place to keep a 500ml round bottle was one of the more convenient: on the downtube! This cost 5.0w at 40kph, or 2.1w at 30kph. Over an Ironman bike leg at 5hr30min speed (32.7kph) this would be a 2min5sec penalty. Still, this is one of the lightest hydration systems that we saw regardless of the mounting position. The material is tasteless and it does not react to food. Titanium is non-toxic, uncoated, and chemical resistant, SOTO’s new double-walled titanium Aero Bottle is not only an alternative for conventional insulated bottles when camping, cycling, hiking and traveling. It is also a reliable, stylish and long-lasting companion for everyday use.

Because of this, we recommend that you use the Speedfil as a practice hydration system rather than for competition. Rear – This is the original mounting position for bike fueling systems and is almost always a cage type of hydration system. This is mostly due to the fact that snaking a feeder tube along the entire length of the bike is not an efficient design. The Aero TT impresses us most with the inclusion of a carbon fiber cage that is less likely to deal with some of the durability issues other carbon fiber cages demonstrate because of its frame mounted position. The watts saved by different hydration solution depends a lot on your riding speed. The faster you go the more gain you can get from using an aerodynamic solution for hydration. The slower the fewer gains you can get in comparison with a normal water bottle. So before choosing which solution is best for you, start by assessing your average speed on your next race. UCI races are regulated by strict rules to ensure technology is not coming into the way of the cyclist’s performance. It is important for them to ensure that everyone is riding with a similar aerodynamic advantage. The real function of water bottles is to allow riders to rehydrate while cycling. This is why the UCI considers that using a bottle as an aerodynamic advantage is not fair to the other riders. Carbon fiber is great for hydration cages because not only is it incredibly lightweight, but it is also incredibly strong for its weight. As we mentioned earlier, bottle placement can be very individual, but the results we saw for Jess were typical to what we see with a lot of riders. We often recommend that if in doubt, place a bottle behind your saddle as this usually results in the least penalty. In some cases it has even been faster! Having a bottle between your arms is also a good option as we found with Jess, but it works best with riders that have their arms close together, rather than wide apart. Jess decided to go with the fastest of the available choices (500ml bottle behind the saddle) for her future long distance TTs.

As it stands, we feel that it is the best all-around value, assuming you already have a cage and mount. One of the biggest selling points of many rear mounted hydration systems is their ability to accommodate multiple bottles. The biggest difference between the Mini Wing 105 and most of XLAB’s other rear mounted hydration systems comes down to materials. It can also be mounted in a variety of arrangements, though this hydration does not come with a cage. Rear Hydration Systems This is great in case you want to keep your hydration and your nutrition separate, or if you prefer to have a bottle for cooling off mid-race.Since the RZ2 has to compete with the XLAB, it might seem like it falls a bit short, but this is still an incredibly capable hydration system. Bottles shall not be integrated to the frame and may only be located on the down and seat tubes on the inside of the frame. The dimensions of the cross sections of a bottle used in competition must not exceed 10 cm or be less than 4 cm and their capacity must be a minimum of 400 ml and a maximum of 800 ml.“
