symptoms. Those specimens whose deaths are especially fascinating are pierced with Injector Pistols once again, this time to extract whatever clotted foulness now passes for their blood, ready for later study. Since the failure of the Heresy, Typhus has followed his own path. Mortarion’s stronghold within the Eye of Terror disgusts him as sentimental, for Mortarion has sculpted the Plague Planet in mimicry of lost Barbarus. We posted this in the Thousand Sons Faction Focus, but it’s worth reposting here where it’s less of a troll for readers. This list is patterned after the one that Davis Frye recently piloted to a 1st-place finish at a 9th-edition release party RTT in Virginia, and focuses on threat saturation with big daemons (Frye has given credit to Seth Riggins for coming up with the list). For his part, Mortarion is content to let his wayward son roam, spreading Nurgle’s gifts across an unwilling cosmos. Sometimes they make war together, when the cause will aid Nurgle’s plans – such as when Typhus supported Mortarion’s conflict in the Ultramar Segmentum. Apply the base color to the different parts of the model. Use a larger brush for larger areas and a smaller brush for details. For example, paint the armor with Death Guard Green or something similar, like Caliban Green, and the tentacles with a mix of Citadel pink and flesh colors like Screamer Pink and Rakarth Flesh. Make sure to cover all the areas evenly.

Mortarion’s Anvil have lost the Transhuman Stratagem but retained Relaptic Assault , which for 1 CP lets any unit perform a Heroic Intervention if there’s an enemy unit within 3”. They also get the insanely powerful Gloaming Bloat plague, which prevents enemy units from firing Overwatch or setting to defend and prevents them from re-rolling hit and wound rolls. Their relic, the Warp Insect Hive , gives the warlord full re-rolls to hit and wound in melee. Wings: Since this is essentially ATSKNF , it’ll be interesting to see if it’s Death Guard only or propagates over to the rest of CSM when they get a book. I could go either way, the flavour here is quite Death Guard specific.

Outlook: Decent

And while we’re adding HQ options I want to toss in the Lord of Virulence. He’s just another good HQ option with a great weapon and aura buff, too. Rob: Yes, if you are mono-DG axes are pretty much always the right play and if you are souping you should look at swords. Start layering the colors on the model to create highlights and shadows. Layering adds depth and dimension to the model. Use a lighter color than the base coat and apply it selectively to raised areas or edges. For example, use a lighter green like Warpstone Glow to highlight the edges of the armor. Finally there’s Warpcraft, which focuses on Pyskers. Although Daemons have cheap Psykers and the ability to take more thanks to Horrors, Psychic Actions can only be done by CHARACTERS, and because those are all in the HQ slot and powerful units, you’ll want them casting psychic powers and smiting rather than spending their psychic phases on actions. The big downside here is Abhor the Witch, which is going to be used against you in almost every game you come up against an army with no psykers, and will typically be combined with Assassinate/Bring It Down to make each Greater Daemon kill worth an insane 8 Victory Points, and that’s for killing a unit that can’t be protected by Look Out, Sir and was already part of your opponent’s game plan. It’s not quite reason enough to not take Greater Daemons, but it makes taking exactly three of them kind of awkward, meaning you may want to conisder going all in and bringing more (or other big things).

Don: I actually like Infernal Jealousy and wish they made it one Daemon Prince per army. I am in the camp of loving the Malignant Plaguecaster though. I can not remember putting more than one Lord of the Death Guard per Detachment anyways. It should make lists more interesting, I think. There are a few things you’ll notice looking at units in the book that apply to multiple units in different slots: The Plague Surgeon now gives friendly BUBONIC ASTARTES infantry units within 3” a 6+ roll to ignore wounds, and can heal a friendly model for up to D3 wounds. He’s an amazing target for the Fugaris Helm, and both Don and I think a Fugaris Plague Surgeon looks to be an auto-include in future lists. Screamers are worth looking into as well. Their points increase was minor, and they combine fast movement with a 4+ invulnerable save and the ability to hurt Infantry and Vehicles now thanks to Lamprey Bite.Flash Outbreak (2 CP) is potentially the most busted Stratagem in the book. You use it in the Command phase to give a single unit in your army all of the contagion abilities that other units have until you next Command phase, and also until then your army counts the battle round as 1 higher for your Contagion abilities. This means you can take a Miasmic Malignifier or Hellblade in an army of Ferrymen, then use this to give them The Droning for a turn with a bonus to their range. On a Hellblade this means you can shoot the unit into the enemy deployment zone, then halve the Movement of all enemy units within 3” for a turn. Just insanely good, potentially going to lead to errata excluding AIRCRAFT from being targets (as they only come from Forge World and may not have been considered). Rob: As for Cultists losing Objective Secured – well, if GW doesn’t want me to buy any more of these ever again, sure. Whatever, I hate painting them anyways.
