Updated September 2023: We've added the Leatherman Raptor Rescue, SOG Parashears, and Leatherman Style PS. We've also updated pricing and availability. It also worked quite well on the same test but felt more flimsy and had a harder time cutting through plastic. Best File: Leatherman Squirt PS4 I also accidentally pinched myself while using the pliers. The near-end where the two handles meet while squeezing the pliers has a pinch point. The skin of your palm will get caught in it and give you a bad pinch if you are not careful. Because of its small size the Gerber Dime doesn’t really have the traditional accessories a larger multi tool would have available. The only real choices available for it are the color and finish options.

The Gerber Dime is for anyone who wants to make sure they always have at least some tools with them. It gives you a tool at hand to turn a small screw or get a better grip on something. It isn’t going to give you a tool boxes worth of value but it’s not priced at that level. As mentioned, both are built on a butterfly pliers platform. But if you look closely at the accompanying wire cutters, you’ll notice that the Dime’s aren’t very sharp. I decided to test them anyway, and came to a conclusion – these are wire crushers, not cutters. Pliers are an obvious necessity for a Gerber, and these itty bitty pliers actually do have quite a bit of utility. The point of the pliers meet up with a slight separation closer to the wide section intended for grabbing nuts, bolts, and other wide objects. There are also a pair of wire cutters built directly into the pliers, as found on most pliers nowadays. The Squirt has that old-school Leatherman style that looks like it’s the first tool they came out with. Personally, I find it a bit on the boring side. The Gerber Dime is no one’s choice for best multi tool. It’s too small to be really useful for most tasks and too fragile to be put through serious use. Despite that, we like this little tool. It was never meant to compete with full size tools in either durability or usefulness. It’s small enough to comfortably fit on your keychain and light enough to always be with you. Then we get to the tools themselves. Sure, the Dime has a couple more functions. But one of these is advertised as a “zipper puller.” Why would you go through the trouble of pulling out your multi-tool just to open a zipper? What tools can you expect to find on a standard multitool? The list can vary widely, but it should include a screwdriver (with a Phillips and flat-head driver, at least), pliers, scissors and possibly a knife or two. Most will also have a bottle opener or something you can use as one. It’s a good bet that this tool is the one that will see the most actual use among weekend warriors. There are a ton of other multi-tools out there, and brands like Leatherman and Victorinox have models upon models that make it confusing to figure out exactly what to get. Here are some others I like. The Leatherman has a flip-out opener on the screwdriver which is thin and gets the job done… but not that well. The Leatherman has similar features but is not as pronounced or useful. The Gerber Dime has ‘one upped’ them on the pliers. Best Scissors: Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-tool

Now, the things that I did not like about the pliers. Even though the ergonomic handle coupled with the strong spring action makes you think that you can use it with some force to loosen stubborn nuts and bolts with, please do not. The pliers are not strong enough to handle that kind of abuse. If you really feel like you need two knife blades on such a small multi tool the Vise provides them. For build quality and overall usefulness though, we say go with the Dime. Dime Vs Leatherman Squirt PS4 The Style PS is Leatherman’s TSA compliant multi tool. It has no blade and a much more basic tool loadout than the Dime, consisting of just pliers, tweezers, a pair of scissors, and a combination file cross driver. It also shares many of the same fail points as the Dime. In our previous review of the Style PS we were very impressed with its overall construction. The Leatherman has no such issue. I was able to cleanly snip several pieces of wire without difficulty. I like this little tool but a couple of modifications would have given it 5*. The box opener is a clever idea but I actually found the knife blade better for this and the keyring loop isn't big enough so I attach my keys and torch to the bottle opener. These are minor quibbles. Quality is equivalent to the weatherman micro series.
