This matt has an R-Value of 2.0 which in real terms means that this matt is best suited to warmer weather trips and adventures.R-Values are an international standard of insulation and (in simple terms) indicate the materials ability to reduce heat flow through conduction, radiation or convection. Therefore, the higher the R-Value, the lower the heat transfer and the greater the insulation properties of the material. We tested the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite in a size Regular, which is the standard model most people will want.

Big On Comfort: 6.4cm (2.5 inches) of cushion provide luxurious rest during your fast and light activities. Incredibly thin fabric. So far tests have not popped it, but it’s much thinner than other common fabric Deniers in ultralight pads. More on sleeping pad materials and Denier in our Guide.

ThermaRest

My experience with the XLite, XTherm, AXL, and now UberLite is that these pads make less noise with age and when paired with older shelter floors. Repeated folding of the pad seems to soften the materials, and normal use seems to buff the fabric coatings. Warmth The NeoAir UberLight shares its mummy shape with the NeoAir XLite and XTherm. Some people feel the regular 20″ width is too narrow, leaving them feeling tippy or with their arms hanging off the side. (It doesn’t bother me, but I’m fairly narrow myself.) For these folks Therm-a-Rest offers wide and large sizes with 5 extra inches of width, but these aren’t available in the short torso length. If you’re familiar with the NeoAir XLite and find it comfy enough, you’ll likely be fine with the UberLite. They have the same dimensions and very similar construction. I do find the UberLite ever so slightly less stable-feeling than the XLite, tippier somehow, but this is a minor point. Big On Comfort: 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) of cushion provide luxurious rest during your fast and light activities.

I would have some concerns about getting a rip/tear as the fabric feels paper thin but this is most definitely a risk I will take and I’ll just make sure to carry its repair kit with me. NeoAir XLite: The best choice for most people. Excellent balance of weight and warmth, perfect for three-season adventuring and still suitable for occasional overnight lows into the 20’s F. Get the XLite if you adventure in spring, summer, and/or fall conditions but not often in snowy winter conditions. From Mountain Marathon runners to multiday hikers, those who need the lightest gear have a new standard for ultra lightweight comfort with this .25 kg sleeping mat. On the other hand, Thermarest NeoAir XLiteweighs 12 oz. Even though it’s 3.2 oz heavier than the Uberlite thanks to Thermarest’s innovative design, it’s still one of the lightest sleeping pads on the market (I have a table of other alternatives belowso you can get the main idea). How would I compare the UberLite to other popular sleeping pads? Therm-a-Rest UberLite vs. Therm-a-Rest XLiteIn these events I typically spend between 2 to 4 nights out at a time, and sleep between 3 to 5 hours a night. The goal of my sleep kit is to keep me safe in remote places and warm(ish) enough to get a few hours of sleep, but not necessarily comfortable. If you’re thinking of using your sleeping pad in relatively colder weathers than, in that case, XLite would be the better option for you. And as I’ve already mentioned it’s not a sleeping pad for 4 season camping. If you’re planning to camp below 40 °F, Uberlite shouldn’t be an option for you (Uberlite can be used in cold weather only if you mix things up a little bit, I will get into this below in the insulation section). Featherweight: Weighing just north of half a pound, the UberLite sets a new standard for ultralight comfort.
