Description

It is particularly suited to Apple versions of djay Pro, because they include Neural Mix, Algoriddim’s feature that lets you separate vocals, drums and music in real time when DJing. It is the first controller that has specific controls for these features, which is one of its selling points. For Android, you’ll need an OTG (“on the go”) power adaptor; you plug the supplied USB-A to USB-B cable between the powered adaptor and the Reloop Buddy, and the appropriate lead (not supplied) between the OTG powered adaptor and your compatible Android device.

This “slices” the current eight beats and spreads them across the pads, and lets you play from the start of each beat by tapping its corresponding slicer pad. The Reloop Buddy offers you large FX Paddles with HOLD and ON positions for instant effect mixing PLUG AND PLAY By using Algoriddim’s DJ Pro built-in sequencer, users of this feature can turn sounds off and on at any time while playing. The thing that sets the Reloop Buddy apart from conventional DJ controllers is the unique Neural Mix™ technology developed by Algoriddim. This groundbreaking tech allows you to isolate elements from your favourite songs so you can get creative with them. For example, say you like a vocal from a song and want to remix it live but don’t have the acapella version. Simply use Neural Mix™ to isolate the performer’s voice and you can use it to create a new and exciting mix. DJ Angelo is one of the world’s most creative DJs (and also a Digital DJ Tips tutor!) and here he turns in an amazing performance that shows that not only do you NOT need pro gear to DJ like this, but that Neural Mix is an amazing step forward for DJing… Note that although he’s using the Mac version of the software, the controls are exactly the same. Of course, Apple products aren’t the only method of connecting to Reloop Buddy. You can also tie your controller to an Android device. You can also use a USB-B to USB-C cable if you have one. Neither of these cables is included so you’ll have to get this for yourself. Sadly even though the Reloop Buddy features hardware controls for changing the effect parameters, there is no visual indication to confirm the changes made. This is somewhat of a recurrent theme with Algoriddim Djay, with the user forced to manually change views on the iPad to see what changes the buttons have made. Performance Pads

Not only is it reasonably well-featured, with a lot of use via its DJ Pro AI, but it is a great option for those that have a penchant for using the iPad (especially due to its built-in stand). For such a small controller, the pads implementation is surprisingly good, so let’s carry on our Reloop Buddy review by looking in some depth at them. Next is for those that plan to use their unit with an iPad while “on the go”. If you are more mobile and don’t plan to set much up for your next gig, you can power up your Reloop Buddy controller via your iPad or iPhone. This is my preferred way of implementing looping on controllers, and it works as you’d expect. Neural Mix Neural Mix™ technology allows you to isolate certain elements from a song such as drums, vocals or instruments – perfect for live remixingThe mixer comes with several large FX paddles that can be used to control some effects. It’s not much, but it’s definitely something and even is reminiscent of some of those higher-end scratch mixers out there. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided.

The included iPad/phone stand is a nice touch, the slot being wide enough to accommodate the square pro edged models. The limited real estate on the small controller has lead to a mirrored design. Although we are usually critical of such a decision, on the Buddy it makes perfect sense. Keeping the tempo faders and loop encoders away from the busy mixer section. We’ve covered this tech at length on Digital DJ Tips already (including an interview about it with Jazzy Jeff), but as stated in the intro, this is the first time a controller has been released that is mapped to use it out of the box, and that has the correct labelling for the functions, making it easy and intuitive to use. Neural Mix is tightly integrated into the unit, using the three filter/low/high EQ knobs per channel. Here’s how it works: By holding down Shift and tapping the headphones cue select button for a channel, you switch it to “Neural Mix” mode. The three knobs for each channel control the drums, harmonics and vocals. You can decide how much of each element you want in the mix simply by turning the knobs. VirtualDJ Pro Full is natively compatible with an impressive list of hardware from many manufacturers. And, with the full MIDI compatibility and the open plugin architecture, it can connect to virtually anything. We mentioned it a bit earlier, but the performance pads on the Reloop Buddy DJ Pro are, while certainly small, surprisingly not only accessible on this controller but accessible.

Tech Specs

If you don’t do that, you’re likely going to just jump to the slice point already established as opposed to creating a new one. #6. Bounce Loop Mobile DJs will probably want to get all-in-one controllers, easy to transport and install anywhere. If you press the pad to its left, you’ll similarly create an auto loop, though it will be half of its supposed size. Hitting the pad to the right of it will create a loop that is twice its size. #3. Touch FX

It is very useful and very fun while not requiring you to sort through so many things at once. #4. Sampler From a physical standpoint, the “high” EQ knob is a bit too close to the iPad’s screen. I’m not sure why they put them so close, but it’s something you’re going to need to be aware of, and care over, accidentally hitting the screen from time to time. Performance Pads

Big DJ Potential in a Compact Controller

Hot cues work as they do in all software. Tap a hot cue to set it, hold down Shift and tap it to delete it. 2. Auto loop If you’ve ever wished you could work on your mixing when you were sitting on a train or plane, a micro DJ controller might be just what you need. Nice, one-touch effects that are pretty useful, and fun! Touch and hold for the effect, remove your finger to release it. 4. Sampler
