Description

Last but by no means least, Forte’s products promise no lesser results than those of its rivals. Forte have been working with engineers, mechanics and automotive specialists in the UK for over 40 years, aiming their products squarely at people who care about their vehicles. Thanks to this industry experience, the company offers a wide range of products, specifically tailored to make them easy to use and effective. JLM’s product is suitable for all turbo-powered diesel engines, applied simply by adding into the fuel tank. One bottle is suitable for mixing with up to 70 litres of diesel fuel, to ensure maximum effect. No further dismantling or assistance is required, simply drive. I thought I'd drop you a line to let you know how my Audi A3 2.0tdi is doing since having some issues with the turbo over boosting etc. After treating the engine & turbo with the Revive product the over boosting issues have stopped altogether and the engine now seems both quieter and smoother.

Revive’s water-based formula is said to be bio-degradable and non-toxic, really emphasising the companies focus on environmental impact and sustainability. Simply sprayed into the inlet, after the air filter, the solution will pass through the turbo and engine to remove all build ups, though this may require multiple applications. Thanks to the large quantity provided, this product should support multiple uses. Whether your car is turbocharged from the factory or you’ve installed an aftermarket turbo kit, keeping it clean is the best way to ensure its longevity. The single biggest enemy of turbos is carbon deposits. The car did blow white smoke for about a quarter of a mile after the treatment and ran kind of iffy for a bit till most of the solution was burned out of the engine. This worried me for a second, but my fears soon melted away and I began to enjoy some of my returned horsepower. These additives are super easy to implement, requiring no special tools or knowledge and very little time. It is important though to ensure a full or nearly full tank of fuel in the vehicle before use. The car then needs to be taken for a good drive, ensuring the product has made its way through the turbo before full benefits can be realised.

Technical Data

The first of the pour-in additives featured here comes from a firm based in the Netherlands, JLM lubricants. The company is just a decade old but, their use of high-quality testing and serious research is making a big impact on the fuel additive market. Professional level products for the regular consumers are what JLM specialise in, resulting in products such as their diesel turbo cleaner.

They claim their turbo cleaner to be the best on the market, removing effectively all soot and dirt for improved efficiency and restored performance, for any diesel-powered turbocharged engine. The product claims to reduce soot emissions produced by the engine to ensure the turbo system stays clean too, allowing ideal air: fuel ratios and maximum longevity for the turbocharger. Over time this will create a poor seal on the valve seats and increase friction on the valve stems and ultimately add to increased unburnt and recycled air contamination creating further carbon build-up. GDI engines present their own issues which are beyond the scope of this list, but if you have a turbocharged GDI engine, we recommend going with the CRC cleaner. Consult the factory service manual to find the location of your vehicle’s turbo and associated components if you are unsure where they are located on your specific make, model, and year. Best Turbo Cleaners for Both Diesel and Gasoline Engines To start the process I wanted to make sure my turbo vanes were actually moving so I reached behind the motor and pushed the turbo actuator by hand. It moved free enough but I could tell there was a good amount of gunk in there.

If you are concerned about how the chemicals you use to clean/service your vehicle impact the environment, go with one of the Revive kits. Their formula is water-based and non-toxic, as well as biodegradable, so you can rest assured you are not causing undue harm to the environment when using it. Turbochargers, the automotive worlds current solution to all customer needs. Need more power or torque from an engine? Turbocharger. Require lower emissions and a smaller engine size? Turbocharger. The efficiency, power and emissions standards required from modern engines have led the majority of vehicle manufacturers to offer nearly all product lines with turbo-enhanced combustion engines. They enable small engines to make large power outputs, without the extra emissions and size restraints imposed by a larger engine or one with a greater cylinder count. This is something that is becoming more relevant by the day, in an industry obsessed with environmental factors and carbon emissions. Since VW introduced the ALH motor in 98 with the New Beetle and 99.5 With the Jetta/Golf the VNT or Variable Nozzle Turbo (also called Variable Vane Turbo) we have had issues with carbon buildup in our engines and turbos. The normal route to take care of the problem, such as on a mk4, is to take the turbo off of the vehicle, take it apart, and then clean the carbon buildup out of the vanes by hand. I have done this process numerous times and it is a pain. Removing the bolts that keep the turbo together can be nearly impossible. The Revive worked great!!!! My Duramax boosts better and doesn't smoke as bad and also fuel economy increased dramatically. Thanks

The product is safe for use in all diesel and petrol engines, while Ecomotive recommends using the spray around every 3000 miles to keep parts clean and issues to a minimum. While it is arguably the most complicated treatment on this list, involving more steps that are very specific, it helps clean both the intake valves and turbo of a GDI engine, which is crucial. Both intake valves and turbos are expensive, and replacing either is going to be costly.Spray Revive in 3 doses of 250ml into the intake, 1st with the engine running at 2200 RPM, next at 1800 RPM, stop the engine for 3 minutes, re-start the engine then finally at 2000 RPM. By performing three Revive cleaning doses on the vehicle, carbonised layers are removed gradually, making the engine cleaning process very safe. Carbon buildup is the main reason why you might need to clean your turbo. Remember that a turbo is a form of forced induction and uses exhaust gases to push more air into your engine. Unfortunately, the exhaust gases contain particulates, hydrocarbons, and sometimes even oil. The problem often worsens during higher combustion pressure and leaner mixtures. This can result in an increase of unburnt fuel mixture in the chamber, which when the valve is open increases the carbon deposit exposure. Often the air passing via the valve has insufficient heat to burn off the deposits.

Note you can use this product even if you have a non-GDI engine safely. However, it is recommended especially for GDI engines due to their issues with carbon deposits. For such a cutting-edge business, Ecomotive’s turbo cleaner is very much in-line with competitors’ offerings, that’s not to say this is a bad thing however. Like rivals, Ecomotive’s turbo cleaner spray promises to clear turbochargers of unwanted contaminants, restoring conditions to manufacturers specifications. This will allow resumption of correct air: fuel ratios along with optimum performance and restored fuel economy as a direct result. The solution we are discussing today offers VW owners, and other diesel owners hope of an easier way. The Revive Turbo Cleaner is a water based non-toxic, non-flammable, substance that is sprayed into the intake of the turbo and goes through you engine clinging to the carbon deposits, breaking them loose, and remove them from the engine. Loads easier than removing the turbo. For diesel owners, we recommend Archoil 6400-D. It is a well-trusted product from a highly reputable brand in the automotive industry. Additionally, it is simple to use. Just pour in the fuel tank and go. Repeat every 5,000 miles. This product is a cleaner for gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines but can be used for other types of fuel injection systems, as well. However, if you have a GDI engine, CRC recommends using their spray every 10,000 miles to ensure optimal engine performance.

The pour-in products are added directly to the fuel tank. There are also spray cleaners for both diesel and gasoline engines, but they require a little more work than the pour-in option as you have to spray at the inlet hose of the turbo itself.
