Description

Once you have completed the scanning process, you can now export your model as a point cloud or mesh as a PLY or OBJ file. The good points are that they provide all functions you need, they are stable and rarely crash, and none of them are cloud-based. So you are able to create 3D scans whenever you want.

To test out this workflow, I used a ceramic bunny model that had ideal geometry for FDM 3D printing, including a flat base, limited overhangs, and no small or delicate features. I took three scans: one upright, and one of each side of the model. Using the built-in editing tools in Revo Scan 5, I cleaned up all three scans and aligned them together. This resulted in a very dense point cloud, which isn’t ideal for 3D printing. Bunny’s mesh from the scan The Revopoint MINI is the superior option for anyone looking for a small, accurate, and relatively affordable 3D scanner. If that’s what you’re after, we recommend giving it a try. Looking for a career in additive manufacturing? Visit 3D Printing Jobs for a selection of roles in the industry. The POP 2 is Revopoint’s other 3D scanner in the current line-up. Despite being similar to the MINI, it does not directly compete with it.The Revopoint POP 2 features precision up to 0.05 mm alongside a 0.15 mm point cloud distance. The Revopoint MINI’s precision hit 0.02 mm, while the point cloud distance is 0.05 mm. When testing the Revopoint POP 2, I confirmed its accuracy to 0.07mm.

In our testing, the Wi-Fi and smartphone app combination worked great. We did not experience any hiccups or crashes anywhere, and the interface is fairly intuitive to use. Read more: we also have an article comparing Revopoint vs Creality 3D scanners (featuring both company’s entire 3D scanner range) We have only used this accessory briefly in our testing, but it performs as advertised. The built-in springs are strong and not the flimsy type that you see on some cheaper phone holders. A great feature of the Revopoint MINI is its built-in Wi-Fi connection. It lets you use the device without the need to physically connect it to a computer or laptop. Due to their similarities and the fact they’re all three based on the same design and structured light technology, it’s challenging to select a clear winner. They are all three excellent choices suitable for a different set of users and applications.

Revo Assistant

Better yet, the Revopoint POP is suitable for various applications, from subjects as large as the human face to small as figurines and models. It’s also suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. MIRACO features an advanced RGB Camera, which utilizes a 48-megapixel sensor and Flash LEDs to produce realistic 3D models with superior color and texture effects. What makes MIRACO stand out is its all-in-one design, eliminating the need for external devices like phones or PCs, streamlining the scanning and processing of models. Altogether, this makes for a neat little box that is easy to store when you are not using the 3D scanner. It also allows you to carry the device with you in an EDC bag without having to worry about it being damaged. After applying the texture, the quality of the model took a turn for the worse. The colors no longer mapped correctly, and the general texture didn’t look like it had been consistently applied. Unfortunately, Revo Scan 5 doesn’t offer any controls for adjusting the color or position of the texture, meaning the UV map of the texture isn’t something that can be controlled. I tried to apply a texture to a few other models, and had similar results where the colors actually looked better at the per-point level. As we are used to from Revopoint, the device comes with a lot of extras. It’s practically everything you need to get started with the Revopoint MINI 3D scanner.
