Like Brother and Sister: Canon's opinion on the David/Rose pairing, which is hardly ever written in fanfic or thought about. Gentle Giant: David, Indigo's friend in Permanent Rose, who formerly had bullied Tom and Indigo with the rest of the rabble. Saffron found Indigo almost at once, a smoky dark blue on the bottom row of the chart. Indigo was two years younger than Saffron. His name suited him exactly. This makes you sympathetic to Saffron, but it was a little selfish anyway. Sarah’s mother thinks Saffron is a bad influence and is very angry when Sarah and Saffron both get nose studs, which Sarah pressures Saffron to do. Sarah formulates a plan so she and her parents go to Saffron’s hometown in Italy and she plans for Saffron to come too, which her mother is reluctant to allow after the nose stud incident, and blames Saffron for giving Sarah ideas. You feel sympathy for Saffron because it seems once again that she will not find her angel.

The book builds its characters very cleverly, with little anecdotes just real enough to be inherently humorous and smart enough to be intentionally, side-splittingly funny. Then comes the end of the book, one giant laugh-out-loud conclusion as all the pieces come together in ridiculous, unexpected ways complete with sparkling dialogue and notes from Rose. (The notes from Rose are not to be missed.) Full-Name Basis: Tom Levin is the only one allowed to get away with calling Rose her full name, Permanent Rose. There's Indigo of the photographic ears, who tries to combat fear of heights by facing it head-on - to be more specific, by dangling his feet off his second-story bedroom windowsill. (Don't worry, though, he can hold onto the curtains; they're very sturdy.)Deadpan Snarker: Rose, Indigo, Saffron, Sarah, Tom... pretty much all of the main characters tend to be pretty snarky. Everyone is mystified by the letter until Saffron has a dream and remembers her garden. She remembers that her garden is the garden in Siena where she and her mum lived when she was little. She realises that the angel must be in her garden in Siena. The novel skips several years, and it seems that Saffron has accepted her life, although this is not the case as another injustice is coming her way. Her sister/cousin, Caddy, finds out from his nursing home that their grandfather has died.

Saffy's Angel is poignant and hilarious, and very, very British, and absolutely fabulous. I don't quite know how to recap it without ruining the constant surprise of the humor, but why don't you meet the characters? How does the artistic nature of the Casson family affect each of the children? What would their lives be like without art and music? How do the people around them feel about the creativity of the household?I've looked under all the yellows," said Saffron loudly and belligerently, "and I've looked under all the oranges too, and there isn't a Saffron!" Bittersweet Ending: Tom leaving to return to America because of a family crisis. Rose hides under the bed and refuses to say goodbye to him, and later, Rose and Indigo watch the stars and wish on airplanes as they think of him. Saffy had a dream that came over and over. In the dream was a white paved place with walls. A sunny place, quiet and enclosed. There were little dark, pointed trees and there was the sound of water. The blue sky was too bright to look at. In the dream something was lost. In the dream Saffy cried. In the dream was the word, Siena. Indigo is one of my favourite characters but also Rose. I could go on, but this is getting long so I will stop soon. Saffy's Angel inspired me so much. I loved it; I was in hysterics half the time but sometimes I cried. I don't know. He went away that same night. We didn't see him again for ages and ages, and when we did, he was different."

Why do Rose and Tom get along so well? Does their relationship affect how Tom relates to the rest of the family? How does his affection for Rose help him when there is a crisis in his own family?Everything seemed to change for Saffron after the day she deciphered the color chart and discovered that her name was not there and found out why this was. She never felt the same again. She felt lost. Bill Casson - the father of the Casson family. Bill is exactly what the other members of his family are not. Stylish, cool and calm. Bill, most of the time, lives in his immaculate studio in London, free of any messy children. We are!" cried Eve. "Of course we are! We adopted you! We wanted you! Your mother was my sister! Caddy and Indigo and Rose are your cousins!"

What do you think about Bill's and Eve's styles of parenting? In what ways are their styles similar, and in what ways are they different? Are they good parents? Do you think the four children would have turned out differently if they'd been brought up by a more traditional couple? The Ditz: Eve Casson. She has her moments of Genius Ditz, though, notably in naming her children, which even Bill commends her for in the first book. There's Caddy, of the debatable driving skills and immersive studying techniques and love of guinea pigs. She's quirky and individual, a quintessential Casson, but also a recognizable teenager, and I wish she was in the story more. Single-Target Sexuality: David hasn't swerved in his affection for Saffron throughout all the books, and later moved with her to Siena, where the blog implies that they had a Relationship Upgrade. Runaway Bride: Subverted. Caddy agrees to marry Alex instead of Darling Michael, but he now doesn't want to marry her. Later, Caddy steals all of Rose's postcards from Micheal and runs off in search of him instead.I can't find me," she grumbled to Indigo, wobbling on the stool. "I can't find Saffron written anywhere." The format of Caddy Ever After is different from the other books. Why do you think the author chose to write the book this way? How does it change the way you experience the story? No," said Eve with relief. "You were at home. At your home in Siena. With Grandad. He was visiting." Bill leads everyone to believe that Saffy’s angel does not exist, or if it does then it doesn’t belong to her. Saffron meets the “girl in the wheelchair”, who lives down the road from her called Sarah, the daughter of the headmistress of the local private school. Sarah and Saffron discuss the angel in detail, and Saffy feels happy because, as the author explains, she has never had a “proper friend.” She is reluctant to let her family meet Sarah, because she knows that they will like her and Sarah will become a family friend as opposed to Saffron’s friend: Batman Gambit: Pulled off by Rose's younger friend Molly, of all people, by getting them intentionally left behind at the Zoo so that Sadist Teacher Mr. Spencer is reprimanded by the Head and replaced with a kinder teacher, Mrs. Shah.
