About this deal

You could be detained for up to 72 hours while a decision is made about the next steps in your care. Where a bishop has granted a licence to a deaconess who is not subject to Common Tenure to serve in his diocese for a term of years specified in the licence, the bishop may revoke that licence under paragraph 3A of this Canon before the expiration of that term, and where he does so that deaconess shall have the like right of appeal as any other deaconess whose licence is revoked under that paragraph. This situation might be isolating for you and your family, including your brother, his girlfriend and child. Talking about it and how you are feeling as a family may be helpful and enable you to understand and support each other more effectively. You could also talk to a close friend about it; it can help to off-load feelings to someone outside the family.

You can choose what they share. This is called giving consent.

However, Alika adds, he did battle with doctors over his desire to come off medication. "I remember feeling like I wasn't listened to enough. It's all very well that a doctor has ten years of experience and knows how it all works theoretically, but in reality every single person's different and they know what works for them," he says. Liaison and Diversion

For the general public, the two most significant powers to detain people last for up to 28 days (Section 2) and six months (Section 3) respectively. The longer-term section can be renewed, if needed, for a further six months and yearly thereafter. In some cases the patient may refuse visitors, and hospital staff will respect the patient's wishes. If you're unable to see your loved one, staff should explain why.
