For SSL 2023, all government employees will receive adjusted salaries beginning January 1, 2023. This is good news indeed but the bad news, though, is that the year 2023 is the final year that automatic salary adjustments will take place. There is no news yet if another round of automatic salary increases will happen in 2024. The guidance continues to follow the principles set out in the hierarchy of prevention and protection embodied in the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The best way to prevent falls is avoid work at height altogether. Unfortunately, by virtue of the fact that someone has decided to employ a scaffolding contractor, this usually means the opportunity to avoid work at height has been missed. However, we continue to see innovation by scaffolding contractors and designers enabling modular building and therefore avoiding more complex work at height. However, for the majority of the industry work at height can’t be avoided and is an inherent part of our trade. Casual personnel, meanwhile, shall receive daily wage which shall be computed by dividing the applicable monthly salary rate by twenty-two (22) working days. NASC’s publications are widely respected as industry best practice the world over, and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved in the review and production of this edition, which will hopefully to yield improved standards of safety.”

For now, the NASC states that current SG4:15YOU booklets can still be issued to scaffolders – alongside a tool box talk on the key changes, until SG4:22 booklets become available in early 2023. The DBM explained that the salary increase for nurses is for all public health nurses, regardless if regular, casual or contractual, full-time or part-time, as long as they are working in national government agencies, including state universities and colleges and state corporations, as well as local government units (LGUs) covered by the Compensation and Position Classification System (CPCS) under Republic Act (RA) No. 6758 or the Compensation and Position Classification Act of 1989. Scaffolders continue to innovate and devise safer methods of working, one area where we reflected industry good practice are examples of safer working with beams.
