Description

The downside to an adjustable handle is that the handle will be weaker . A handle made from one solid piece of metal is going to be much stronger than one which comes apart. The problem is it can be difficult to get a lawn completely level with a standard rake because what you really need is a wide rake. A standard rake can also create ruts too, and this is where a specialised lawn levelling rake comes in. For particularly tough mounds, break them up with a stiff garden rake, then level with a lawn levelling rake.

Lawn levelling rakes are designed to spread sand, grit, topsoil, and another substrate that matches your existing soils evenly over the surface of the existing lawn without needing to scarify, and without compaction. What are lawn levellers used for? Having said that, a heavy tool will be more difficult for some people to use. Ideally, you need a rake with enough weight to do the job, without being difficult to manage.

Essential Tool for the Perfect Lawn

As mentioned in the introduction, you’ll need a retaining wall to hold your newly levelled garden in place. The base is heavy, which makes it effective at a number of tasks including removing stones, breaking up small clots of loam and mixing soil with fertilisers. It can also be used to level out lumps of soft ground and prepare the garden for planting.

And for extra comfort, the handle has an ergonomic soft grip at the end. This stops your hand from becoming blistered or calloused with all the raking you do. Make sure to buy a lawn levelling rake that’s proportionate to the size of the area you want to level – your lawn or vegetable patch. The most common complaint I came across from reviewers of this tool was that it was too narrow. Standard rakes can be used to level small lawns, but need to be used with care as the pressure can scarify your lawn, and often create uneven surfaces which gather water on clay soils. While metal handles can often get cold and uncomfortable, this levelling rake comes with an effort-saving handle and extendable rubber grip. The grip will keep you comfortable for long periods of time, while it won’t get slippery if you sweat (and, let’s face it, lawn levelling can be tough work!). Lawn levelling rakes are special tools designed to keep flat surfaces and avoid pooling. Can you make a lawn levelling rake? Base the depth of the trench on the proposed height of your retaining wall. Make the trench 1/8th as deep as the wall, and add on an additional 8cm. For example, if your retaining wall is going to be 60 cm tall, the trench should be 20.5 cm deep. The Walensee Lawn Leveling Rake is an ideal tool for leveling soil surfaces in yards and gardens. Featuring heavy-duty construction, this rake is made with high-quality iron material and powder coatings to ensure long-term use and rust prevention.

Decide how long the retaining wall will need to be (this is likely the width of your garden). Multiply the area of the triangle by the length of the retaining wall. Leveling a bumpy lawn is simple yet follows various steps to render the best results. The first step usually involves digging out the soil and filling the bumps and hollow cavities on the ground surface. Simultaneously the bumps also have to be flattened out. Once the uneven dips and rises have been taken care of, the next step is leveling. It’s easy to assemble this model as you put the handle together in three sections. This lets you adjust the length of the handle pole to between 72cm and 225cm according to what’s comfortable for you. Remember that you use an easy to and fro motion with this levelling rake.

Another slight issue is that the joint between the handle and board isn’t particularly durable. It hasn’t been welded, so it is a weak point in its construction. Using our level lawn rake is the simplest and easiest way to distribute and level the soil under your new turf for smooth and impressive results or over your existing lawn to level out those irritating dips and bumps for that perfect professional finish. Personally, I prefer solid handled tools, even if it means there’s too much handle, just because they are sturdier and withstand more bumps and scrapes, but there are advantages to adjustable handles for storage, and ease of use. Width/Size The TALITARE Lawn Levelling Rake is another of the smaller levelling rakes in this review. With a levelling rake head area of 43cm by 30cm, it’s best used on small to medium-sized properties. This model is constructed of 304 stainless steel, the most common grade used for resisting corrosion and rust.
